ROAD USERS LIVES AND PROPERTY IN CONSTANT DANGER BY TRUCK DRIVERS CARELESS ACTIVITIES - OGUN GOVT.

The Ogun State Government has asked operators of trucks and other articulated vehicles in the State to redouble efforts at educating their colleagues on the danger inherent in spilling contents of their goods on the roads while in transit. The activities of some of the drivers, it noted had continued to pose major threat to other road users in the State. Secretary to the State Government, Barr. Taiwo Adeoluwa stated this today at a meeting with the executive members of the State chapter of the Truck Owners Association in his office. Barr. Adeoluwa who explained that the meeting was at the instance of the State Governor, Senator Ibikunle Amosun who regretted that some truck drivers were in the habit of disobeying the rules while conveying their goods, thereby endangering the lives and property of other road users. “Some of your members are in gross violation of the rules that their goods must be well covered while in transit so that the contents would not spill on the road. We have also observed with disappointment that some of your drivers still cannot find a formula to cover their goods while in transit”, the SSG noted.
The State Scribe however commended the Association for its cooperation and urged it to continue to further sensitize its members on the need to be more safety conscious. He also promised that Government would continue to create an enabling environment required for their business to thrive. Responding, the Public Relations Officer of the Association, Mr. Olatunji Ajayi explained that following series of meetings held with Government in the past on the issue, the Association had set up a Task Force which monitored its drivers periodically with a view to checking their excesses. He also appealed to the State Government to open up alternative routes for the truck drivers to reduce the incidence of chips falling off while conveying their goods.
