OGUN RENOVATES STADIA WITH GRASS TURF
In its efforts to make the sports sector more effective and operate in accordance with international best practices, Ogun State Government has commenced the renovation of its stadia in the State with natural turf. The Director of Administration and Supplies in the Ministry of Youth and Sports, Mr. Wole Odejobi disclosed this during an interview with newsmen in his Office, Abeokuta.
Odejobi said that the main reason for the renovation was to change the astrotov of the main football and training pitches to natural grass due to its high cost of maintenance.‘’The need for replace of synthetic football turf at MKO Abiola Stadium, Abeokuta to grass turf is justified by its high cost of maintenance coupled with current international best practices of construction of football pitches’’. Odejobi said.
He added that the natural grass turf could be played at any time of the day as against synthetic turf that had temperature build up which remain largely unusable on hot sunny days and pose the risk of ankle injury. Odejobi said the renovation would be extended to all stadia in the State, saying that Government was working on Stage box at Oladipo Dina Stadium, Ijebu-Ode and Sagamu International Stadium to equip them to best standard. He commended the efforts of the State Governor, Senator Ibikunle Amosun for redeveloping sports and sporting activities in the State by taking right steps and seeing to the challenges affecting the sector across the State.
