O.O.U CONVOCATION: "STRIVE TO BE JOB PROVIDERS", AMOSUN CHARGES FRESH GRADUATES

Ogun State Governor, Senator Ibikunle Amosun has charged fresh university graduates in the country to work on becoming employers of labour rather than spending time looking for white collar job. Governor Amosun who gave this advice at the 23rd and 24th convocation ceremonies of Olabisi Onabanjo University, Ago-Iwoye, Ogun State, re-iterated the determination of his administration to develop education at all levels which is the topmost priority in its 5-cardinal agenda.

He expressed delight at the new lease of life in OOU as against the situation his administration met in 2011, pointing out that the institution's low public rating had become a thing of the past with the arrival of its enviable status among the comity of universities in the nation and Africa at large. The Governor noted that OOU, which now provides hostel accommodation on its permanent site for students does not have any backlog of convocation, insisting the dream of the State Government was to make the institution compete favourably with any university in the world.

Governor Amosun who gave automatic employment to the 26 first class graduates of the sets into the State Civil Service also commissioned a new ultra-modern University Library, Faculty of Science Animal House, Performing Arts building, Faculty of Science building Phase 1, as well as School Hostels respectively to commemorate the convocation. "We remain committed to rebuilding the entire sectors in our State. Since we came on board in 2011, we have not neglected other educational institutions, including our primary and secondary schools.

I am happy with the new lease of life in this great institution especially for its rise from low public rating to an enviable one. I want to charge our fresh graduates to keep the flag flying and avoid acts that could tarnish your image and the institution. Graduates in this country should endeavour to be job providers rather than being job seekers," he said. While saluting the courage of the Governing Council of the University for living up to expectation and demonstrating vast transparency, the State's helmsman, called on parents, Alumni of the Institution and relevant stakeholders to collaborate with Government to take it to greater height.

Speaking earlier, the Vice Chancellor, Prof. Saburi Adejimi Adesanya, disclosed that the convocation was the third to be held within the last three years, saying that the university had witnessed a huge and unprecedented infrastructural development on all its campuses alongside the provision of municipal facilities. Prof. Adesanya appreciated the unflinching support of Senator Amosun which he said, was the impetus for the success recorded, affirming that the management and staff remained focused on vision of the founding fathers of OOU.

The ceremony also witnessed the conferment of doctorate honorary degrees on Sir Kesington Adebutu, Chief Olatunde Abudu and Olola Fredrick Ogunlana for their contributions to educational development and service to humanity both locally and internationally.
