Ogun NUJ Information Chapel Powers Union Secretariat with Solar Installation to Boost Operations

The Nigeria Union of Journalists (NUJ), Ogun State Information Chapel, has taken a significant step towards improving its operational efficiency with the installation of a 1.5KVA solar power system at its secretariat.

Speaking during the month of May Congress of the Chapel held at the Governor's Office Press Center, Oke Mosan, Abeokuta, the Chairman of the Chapel, Comrade 'Femi Osipitan noted that the initiative is aimed at ensuring uninterrupted power supply which is expected to enhance productivity and create a more conducive working environment for members of the chapel. 

Osipitan described the project as a milestone achievement noting that the installation reflects the chapel leadership’s commitment to innovation and the welfare of its members.

According to him, the solar power system would reduce dependency on conventional power sources and significantly cut operational costs in the long run.

The Chairman reaffirmed the Union's dedication to pursuing projects that would enhance the capacity and effectiveness of its members while embracing modern solutions to workplace challenges.

Members of the chapel present at the Congress expressed their appreciation for the initiative, describing it as timely and impactful while affirming that stable electricity would greatly support their professional duties particularly in the area of timely filing of new stories. 

Meanwhile, the leadership of the chapel through the Congress has nominated Comrade Suraj Popoola as Chairman, Comrade Adeyinka Elujoba as Secreraty and Comrade Ayobami Disu as Member of the 2026 NUJ Information Chapel Screening and Credentials Committee for the upcoming Chapel elections.

WORLD BANK COMMENDS OGUN’S RAAMP PROGRESS, SIGNALS READINESS FOR TIMELY DELIVERY

Ogun State’s implementation of the Rural Access and Agricultural Marketing Project (RAAMP) has acknowledged a strong commendation from the World Bank, with indications that the State is on track for timely delivery and could serve as a model for others.

This was made known during a meeting between a delegation, led by the World Bank, alongside the Federal Project Management Unit, led by the National Coordinator and the State Project Implementation Unit with the Ogun State Commissioner for Finance and Chief Economic Adviser, Hon. Dapo Okubadejo.

Speaking during the high-powered team visit, the World Bank Representative, Ms. Ajara Ceesay, reaffirmed the Bank’s continued support for the project, expressing satisfaction with the level of improvement recorded in Ogun State.

According to her, this performance could serve as a strong benchmark for the broader RAAMP scale-up, noting that the State was well positioned to be among the first to deliver on the project.

Earlier, National Coordinator, Engr. Aminu Mohammed, noted that the technical mission was a standard practice designed to assess project performance across participating states. He explained that the exercise had provided an opportunity to offer guidance and technical support, foster collaboration and ensure value for money, compliance with standards as well as adherence to project timelines.

He added that it also helps stakeholders gain a clear understanding of developments on the ground.

In his remarks, the Commissioner for Finance and Chief Economic Adviser, Hon. Dapo Okubadejo, described RAAMP as a very important intervention that aligned with the State’s development agenda, known as ISEYA.

He noted that Ogun State is largely agrarian, with over 70 percent of its land suitable for agriculture and a significant proportion of its population engaged in food crop production, adding that the State had invested heavily in agricultural initiatives and reforms aimed at boosting productivity.

The Commissioner further explained that road infrastructure being constructed under RAAMP had helped to reduce post-harvest losses by improving access to markets for farmers, an initiative that had improved the State’s economic growth, while charging contractors to ensure quality execution and timely delivery of all projects.

Earlier, the Project Coordinator, Engr. Waheed Adejumo, explained that the purpose of the technical mission visit was to assess the physical progress of ongoing works, evaluate accessibility and ensure readiness for inspection and eventual commissioning.

OGSIEC Commiserates with Ikenne LG Chairman Over Councillor’s Demise; Sets Stakeholders’ Meeting for April 30

The Chairman of the Ogun State Independent Electoral Commission (OGSIEC), Mr. Babatunde Osibodu, has commiserated with the Chairman of Ikenne Local Government Area, Hon. Jamiu Ashimi, following the passing of the Councillor representing Iperu III (Ward 5), Hon. Nurudeen Bakare.

During a courtesy visit to the Council headquarters in Ikenne, Mr. Osibodu, represented by a Commissioner at OGSIEC, Mrs. Gbemi Onasanya, described the visit as a somber one, praying to God to comfort the bereaved family and the community members Hon. Bakare left behind.

While praising the Council Boss for his dynamic and proactive leadership, the OGSIEC Chairman noted that the visit was also a formal necessity to address the vacuum created by the late Councillor's transition, emphasising the legal requirement to conduct a bye-election to fill the vacant seat.

Osibodu announced that a meeting will hold on Thursday, April 30, 2026, involving all registered political parties, Community leaders, Security personnel and relevant stakeholders within the Ward.

According to him, during this session, the Commission will officially unveil the timetable and guidelines for the upcoming bye-election.

"We are here because of the strategic importance of your office. You are closer to the people and have greater access to your constituents. We will require your full support to ensure a hitch-free meeting and a smooth election process", Osibodu stated.

In his response, the Executive Chairman of Ikenne LG, Hon. Jamiu Ashimi, thanked OGSIEC for the honor of the visit prior to the stakeholders' forum.

He assured the commission of the local government's maximum cooperation to ensure a successful electoral process.

Hon. Ashimi further urged the commission to uphold its integrity and maintain absolute neutrality throughout the conduct of the bye-election.

MLG&CA TRAINS OFFICERS ON FISCAL DISCIPLINE

The Ogun State Ministry of Local Government and Chieftaincy Affairs in collaboration with HIBAD Strategic Solutions Limited, has trained Local Government officials in the State on effective performance and strict compliance in achieving government development policies and programmes.

Speaking during a 2-day training at Oke-Mosan, Abeokuta, themed: ‘Fiscal Administrative Due Process and Enhanced Internal Revenue Generation for Ogun State Local Government Councils’, Commissioner, in the Ministry, Hon. Ganiyu Hamzat said the workshop was designed to strengthen participants’ administrative and financial management capacity, while also sensitising them for due process for optimal service delivery.

He noted that a well-structured organisation is defined by the judicious and procedural utilisation of resources, which safeguards it against legal and administrative lapses and enhances institutional efficiency.

Hamzat stressed that promoting due diligence in public service was a collective responsibility, urging participants to actively engage in all sessions of the workshop to improve their performance and minimize avoidable risks in the discharge of their duties.

In his remarks, Permanent Secretary in the Ministry, Dr. Rotimiolu Akinlesi, urged participants to remain open to learning and relearning in order to achieve excellence in governance, adding that the knowledge gained would enhance effective service delivery at the local government level.

Earlier, a representative of the Independent Corrupt Practices and Other Related Offences Commission, (ICPC ) Alhaji Idris Bakori, said the workshop was aimed to familiarise local government officials with financial regulations as well as to guide their operations.

He added that the collaboration would foster knowledge sharing and promote effective administrative practices.

Also speaking, Chairman of the Association of Local Governments of Nigeria in Ogun State, Hon. Afolashade Adeyemo, described the workshop as timely, noting that modern governance is increasingly driven by transparency, accountability, adding that adherence to fiscal due process was fundamental to prudent financial management and building public trust.

Adeyemo further underscored the need for local governments to strengthen their internally generated revenue to adapt to current economic realities, urging councils to become more innovative and less dependent on statutory allocations.

Responding on behalf of participants, Chairman, Imeko Afon Local Government, Ambassador Theophilus Olorode, commended the organisers of the workshop, noting that improved revenue generation would enhance project delivery and improve the standard of living of the people.

He expressed confidence that the knowledge acquired would translate into better service delivery, stronger institutions and sustainable development at the grassroots level.

OGUN ORGANISES PENSION CLINIC FOR CIVIL/ PUBLIC SERVANTS

A window of opportunity tagged "Pensions Clinic" has been organised for Civil/ Public Servants under the Contributory Pension Scheme (CPS), who have issues relating to their Retirement Savings Account (RSA's).

Speaking at the programme held at Oke-Mosan in Abeokuta, the Permanent Secretary , Bureau of State Pensions, Mrs Arinola Adetayo noted that the platform was meant to get issues resolved within the confines of the office environment, saying the Pension Fund Administrators would attend to all issues connected to Retirement Savings Account within the 3 days. 

The exercise according to her was important for Civil/ Public Servants, in order to get their benefits after retirement.                        
                
Also speaking, the acting Chairman, Ogun State Pension Administrators Forum, representing Nigeria Life and Pension Consultant, Mr Salau Ismael said Pension Fund Administrators are responsible for life and management of retirement savings under Nigeria's Contributory Pension Scheme, to ensure safe keep and growth of contributors until they are due for retirement.
                              
Salau, emphasised that the exercise would assist in solving problems relating to Retirement Savings Account (RSAs) like Invalid pin,no pin, multiple pins, and contributors that were not receiving regular messages. 

Pension Fund Administrators in attendance at the exercise which would run till Thursday April 23,2026 were NLPC , Leadway Pension, Oak, Crusader, Trustfund, Access ARM, PAL, FCMB, Stanbic IBTC, Ventes, Premium and Tangerene APT Pension.     
                       Participants including Mr Saheed Owolabi and Tayo Olusanya, appreciated the organisers for a smooth and stress free exercise.

OGUN HoS HARPS ON KNOWLEDGE ACQUISITION, LEADERSHIP, CAPACITY BUILDING

The Ogun State Head of Service, Mr. Kehinde Onasanya has emphasised the importance of continuous thirst for knowledge to avoid stagnation and decline in professional standards.

Mr. Onasanya made this known during a Leadership and Union Training, organised by members of the Nigerian Union of Allied Health Professionals, Ogun State Council, at the Pharmacy House, Leme Abeokuta.

Represented by the Permanent Secretary, Ogun State Hospitals Management Board, Dr. Olayinka Elemide, the HoS encouraged the Union to keep sending its members for training so as not to become obsolete, but updated with new trends and ideas.

Affirming the aptness of the theme, the Head of Service noted that, "Leadership is not what we can toil with. You can only lead well when you are well equipped with adequate training", adding that there was always room for improvement.
While delivering the lecture titled, "Ethics and Excellence: Building a Culture of Accountability in Trade Unionism", the State Controller, Federal Ministry of Labour, Mr. Andy Egboh, disclosed that without ethics and excellence, there would be chaos, charging participants to act with integrity especially when under pressure, reiterating that ethics would build trust and credibility, noting that excellence is not a destination, but a journey embarked upon daily, to become better.

Earlier in his address, the Chairman of the Nigerian Union of Allied Health Professionals, Ogun State Council, Pharm. Adesina Abiodun, charged union members to have the sense of oneness and unity of purpose, emphasising that in unity, lies the strength of the Union.
