ALCOHOL AND LIQUOR SHOPS SEALED OFF IN OGUN STATE, NIGERIA PARKS

In its effort to ensure hard drugs and liquor are no longer sold in parks and garages across the state, the Ogun State Government has sealed off six shops selling alcoholic drinks at Kuto Motor Park. General Manager, Parks and Garages Development Board (PAGADEB), Alhaji Ola-Ayo Ogunsolu while flagging off ‘Operation Flush out Alcoholic Drinks’ in all parks and garages in Abeokuta said sealing up of shops became imperative in order to reduce road accidents to the barest minimum and instil discipline among transport workers.

Ogunsolu stated that there was need to protect lives and property of passengers boarding vehicles in all parts of the State, noting that the intake of alcohol while driving remains illegal and punishable under the traffic rules and regulations. “We decided to embark on this exercise in order to stem the growing rate of carnage on our roads”, Ogunsolu said. He however enjoined others still selling
alcoholic products to stop forthwith and move out of the park, warning transport workers to avoid taking alcoholic drinks and other toxicants while driving.

Speaking at the flag off, the General Secretary of the State National Union of Road Transport Workers (NURTW) Kuto Garage, Mr. Kayode Kehinde commended the State Government for the enlightenment programme, promising to ensure strict compliance with the directive by setting up a Task Force Team.
