The Director of Administration and Supplies in the Ministry of Youth and Sports, Mr. Wole Odejobi disclosed this during an interview with newsmen in his Office, Abeokuta.
Odejobi said that the main reason for the renovation was to change the astrotov of the main football and training pitches to natural grass due to its high cost of maintenance.‘’The need for replace of synthetic football turf at MKO Abiola Stadium, Abeokuta to grass turf is justified by its high cost of maintenance coupled with current international best practices of construction of football pitches’’. He added that the natural grass turf could be played at any time of the day as against synthetic turf that had temperature build up which remain largely unusable on hot sunny days and pose the risk of ankle injury. Adeoluwa who explained that the meeting was at the instance of the State Governor, Senator Ibikunle Amosun who regretted that some truck drivers were in the habit of disobeying the rules while conveying their goods, thereby endangering the lives and property of other road users. “Some of your members are in gross violation of the rules that their goods must be well covered while in transit so that the contents would not spill on the road. We have also observed with disappointment that some of your drivers still cannot find a formula to cover their goods while in transit”, the SSG noted.

HEAVY ROCK FELL ON BUILDING IN OGUN STATE, CAUSED SERIOUS CASUALTY
The incident of a rock that fell on a building recently in Iberekodo, Abeokuta North Local Government Area of the State has been said to be a natural disaster caused by climatic changes. Addressing journalists in Abeokuta, the Director of Geological Services in the State Ministry of Commerce and Industry, Mr. Steve Ipinniwa said the chemical reaction and other weathering effects resulted to a gravitational force that pushed the rock forward before collapsing on the building.
“These rocks are very massive, they are natural endowment. They have been there for thousands of years. However, with climatic changes that cause weathering effects, the rocks are being pushed gradually and it is one of such push that fell on that building”. Ipinniwa said. According to him, town planning laws negate building houses close to such rocks, pointing out that most buildings located in such rocky areas were illegal structures as their owners would not have obtained building approval.
He said as part of measures being put in place to mitigate against such incident in the future, relevant Government agencies have been directed to ensure evacuation of residents living close to the rocks.
Mr. Ipinniwa therefore called on residents to always take necessary steps by seeking and obtaining approval before embarking on any construction in order to ensure healthy living environment.

Domestic Violence: Ambode urges Lagosians to speak out
Governor Akinwunmi Ambode of Lagos State on Monday urged residents to speak out against domestic violence and assist government’s efforts to reduce the menace in the society. Ambode, who was represented by the Deputy Governor, Dr Idiat Adebule, made the call at a Symposium on Gender Based Violence organised by the Lagos State Domestic and Sexual Violence Response Team (DSVRT).
He said that domestic violence remained a devastating public health crisis as statistics revealed that one in four women would be physically or sexually assaulted at some point in her lifetime. According to him, the government will endeavor to provide landmark prevention against domestic violence, protect survivors, bring offenders to justice and change attitudes that support such violence.
“As a government, we are in the process of establishing more shelter and transit homes for victims, procurement of rape kits and training of relevant agencies to equip them with the tools required to combat this evil. “Our law enforcement and justice system must work to hold offenders accountable and protect victims and their children.
“Ending domestic violence requires a collaborative effort of every part of the society. “We, however, call on stakeholders, traditional rulers, religious leaders, market leaders, NGOs, law enforcement agencies and the media to join this fight.“There is still much to be done to reach thousands of survivors and break the culture of silence to prevent countless incidences of abuse and save untold numbers of lives. “We assure the citizens of our administration’s commitment to reducing the prevalence of domestic violence in Lagos State, “he said.
Also speaking, Justice Yetunde Idowu, Head, Lagos State Family Court, urged citizens to utilise the helpline – 112, to receive further information on relevant support services available.Idowu said that the government was working with all relevant agencies and organisations to respond proactively to acts of domestic violence as crimes, and afford the victims access to the relevant support services.
In her remarks, the Solicitor General and Permanent Secretary, Ministry of Justice, Mrs. Funlola Odunlami, said that domestic violence was a serious community problem that required serious attention. Odunlami said that it affected individuals of all tribes, cultural groups, religions and socio-economic backgrounds. She urged the public to recognise domestic violence as a public matter and not a private matter, to increase awareness and break the silence.

GOV. OKOROCHA LET OUT HIS 2019 PRESIDENTIAL AMBITION
Rochas Okorocha, the Imo state Governor has finally let out his 2019 Presidential ambition. Okorocha was forced to address the matter after his recent visit to Kano state for the first graduation ceremony of his college, Rochas Foundation College. A statement issued by Okorocha’s Chief Press Secretary (CPS), Mr. Sam Onwuemeodo, said that the event had nothing to do with a 2019 Presidential bid.
The statement read, ”It has come to the knowledge of the Imo state government that some people who are obviously cowed by Governor Rochas Okorocha’s progress and achievements both in politics and outside politics, are at the moment making effort to blackmail him using the graduation ceremony of the Rochas Foundation College, Kano, which held last weekend as their tool by giving distorting interpretations of that academic event to mean the governor is campaigning for the 2019 presidency and they have sold that unfounded dummy to some media outfits.
”It is also worth stating that apart from the governor of Kano state, Alhaji Umar Ganduje, and an elder statesman Alhaji Maitama Sule who were physically present at the ceremony, the governors of Sokoto and Niger states, former Governor of Jigawa state, Alhaji Saminu Turaki and the Deputy Governors of Gombe and Kano states were all in attendance.

COULD THIS BE A MIRACLE OR MEDICAL MISTATE? 70 YEARS OLD MAN RESURRECTS IN MORTUARY AFTER 30 HOURS OF DEATH
The ‘resurrection’ of 70-year-old Amos Otene after he was certified dead by medical practitioners and made to spend over 30 hours in a mortuary in Makurdi, Benue State capital has thrown up a debate. Doctors, according to a report, at a private hospital in the town had, on Wednesday, August 26, 2015, certified Otene dead at 4.30 a.m. and wheeled him into the mortuary, awaiting instructions from members of the family for embalming.
The report stated that, but for the visit by the son of the ‘deceased’ to confirm the news, the Otene family would have been preparing to inter the agriculturalist who retired from Benue State civil service three years ago. The old man had toothache and was rushed to the private clinic, on Tuesday, August 25. A day later, he was certified dead and the doctors whose names were not mentioned in the report could have immediately ordered his embalming, but there was no family member to give the go-ahead. So they wheeled him to the morgue.
30 hours thereafter, Eche Otene, the son of the ‘deceased’, who lives in Lafia, Nasarawa State, came visiting and the hospital was thrown into confusion when the father raised his hand to acknowledge the presence of his son and followed that gesture by sitting up on the mortuary trolley.
The question now is: Was the man sentenced to death by an inexperienced medical team or he actually died but was brought back to life by God?
To the science-inclined minds, Pa Otene could not have died in the first place and the question of resurrection was out of the question. The only explanation, according to a Makurdi-based medical practitioner, Dr. Ameh Edace, is that the retiree could only have been “in a long coma”.
The Medical Director of Rekiya Memorial Hospital, Kaduna, Dr. Bello Mohammed, said that “in the history of medicine, there has not been any case of anybody coming back to life after being certified dead.” He added: “If a person is pronounced clinically dead, he remains dead and there is no way he can come back to life, certainly not after 24 hours. On this case in question, the only medical explanation is that the patient was in a long coma.”
To this school of thought therefore, if doctors had certified Pa Otene dead, then the competence of such doctors should be called to question. In other words, something must be amiss with the death certification.
