GOOD NEWS...HIV/AIDS PREVALENT RATE DROPS TO 1.6% IN OGUN STATE, NIGERIA


          Ogun State Agency for the Control of HIV/AIDS, (OGSACA) says the HIV/AIDS prevalent rate in the State has now dropped to 1.6%.
          The Prevention Team Lead for the Agency, Dr. Oluwafemi Akinwande disclosed this in Abeokuta while Playing host to the State House of Assembly Committee on Health led by Hon. Aina Akinpelu.
          Dr.  Akinwande said the figure dropped from 3.1% to the current 1.6% as a result of consistent comprehensive campaigns and enlightenment on prevention, treatment and counselling.
          He said that more people were now aware of the need to prevent the spread of the disease, as they now visit the hospital to determine their status.
          Akinwande commended the State Governor, Senator Ibikunle Amosun for his support for the agency to successfully execute its activities.
          In the same vein, the State Ministry of Health and Hospitals Management Board in their budget Performance Presentations assured that five more General Hospitals would soon be built to render comprehensive medical services to the people.
          The Permanent Secretary, Ministry of Health, Dr. Nafiu Aigoro who gave the assurance while responding to questions from members of the House Committee on Health, one of the hospitals would be sited along Mowe/Ibafo road to cater for the increasing population of the area.
          He assured that there would be attitudinal change of health workers towards the patients, saying more effort would be put in place to promote better relationship between patients and health workers.
          Responding, the Chairman of the Committee, Hon. Aina Akinpelu  lauded the Ministry and Hospitals Management Board for striving hard to give qualitative health care to the people, encouraging  them to work more on patient/ health workers relationships.
          The Committee also visited the State Hospital Ijaiye, Abeokuta where it encouraged the Chief Managing Director of the Hospital, Dr. Kayode Oladeinde in giving qualitative health care service to the people.
