Ogun Christian Pilgrims Charged On Conduct, Spiritual Focus in Israel

 

The Ogun state government has charged Christian pilgrims travelling to Israel from the State to remain spiritually focused, disciplined and law-abiding throughout the pilgrimage in the Holy Land.

 Governor Dapo Abiodun, gave the charge on Saturday, during a farewell service for the intending pilgrims at the Obas' Complex, Governor’s Office, Oke-Mosan, Abeokuta.

Abiodun, represented by the Chief of Staff, Dr. Oluwatoyin Taiwo stressed that pilgrimage to the Holy Land is not a leisure trip but a sacred period for spiritual renewal and deeper communion with God, urging the pilgrims to conduct themselves with integrity and decorum, as they represent the State and Nigeria at large.

The governor emphasised that unity, cooperation and strict adherence to laid-down rules were critical to the success of the pilgrimage.“Pilgrims must see themselves as ambassadors of the state and the country. Your conduct abroad reflects on all of us, and unity among pilgrims is key to achieving the spiritual purpose of this journey.

Also speaking, the Board Secretary, Mr. Ibiyemi Oduyemi , described the pilgrimage as a strictly spiritual exercise and cautioned pilgrims against distractions that could undermine its essence, advising pilgrims to dress modestly, eat moderately, remain with their assigned groups, obey the laws of the land and follow the instructions of tour guides throughout the journey.

He added that prayer should remain the central focus of the pilgrimage. and commended Governor Abiodun for his continued support for pilgrimage programme, describing the state government’s efforts as instrumental to a well-structured and seamless process.

A total of 172 pilgrims from the state, are expected to undertake the holy pilgrimage this year to Israel for 10 days

OGSG BEGINS ENFORCEMENT OF 5-METER SETBACK AT KARA MARKET

The Ogun State Government has launched a renewed enforcement drive at Kara market, insisting on compliance of traders and operators with the mandatory five meter setback along the length of the market corridor.

The Special Assistant to the Governor on Environment, Hon. Tolu Poviwhede, who also doubles as the new Chairman of the Taskforce on Environment made this known, while leading a team of Taskforce on enforcement tour of Kara market, saying the initiative was aimed at improving environmental safety, as well as reducing congestion particularly during this festive season.

According to the SA, the Commissioner for Environment, Dr. Ola Oresanya, had earlier in a meeting between the management of the Ministry and Kara market, gave the directive that coordinated interventions, involving Environmental Officials and management of Kara market should work together for effectiveness, adding that the setback enforcement was essential for public safety.

He noted that the 5 meter setback was not optional. It was designed to reduce traffic congestion particularly during the festive season, to create safe walkway for the market users.

The Special Assistant noted that while carrying out the exercise, some make shifts structure built too close to the access roads were marked for removal, just as traders were advised to reorganize their stalls in line with the approved spatial layout or risk sanctions.

The representative of the Seriki of Kara market, Alhaji Hamsat Saidu, while responding, acknowledged the government’s directive, saying the market authority had earlier held a meeting with the Hon. Commissioner for Environment and they were always ready to comply with the directive given by Government to ensure a safe and healthy market environment.

ACHUDUME TO NIGERIANS: SHOW LOVE TO ALL, THIS CHRISTMAS

The General Overseer of the Victory Life Bible Church, Apostle Lawrence Achudume, has charged Nigerians to show love, care and empathy to people in sync with the essence of Christmas when God gave his only begotten son as propitiation for the sins of the world.

Apostle Achudume who stated this in the sermon titled "The Manger and His Majesty" which he delivered at the 2025 VLBC Carol service held on Friday at the Church Auditorium described a manger as a feeding place for sheep and shepherds who in those days were generally despised but however were saddled with the delivery of news of the birth of Jesus.

He said the story of Jesus was indicative of the height that a child can attain in life irrespective of the status of his birth. 

"From humble beginnings, God gave Jesus a name that is above all names to underscore the fact that anybody can rise from humble beginnings to enviable heights.

Apostle Achudume quoted Phillipians 2 verses 1 to 8 to underscore the need to share and care adding "do not let your neighbour sleep hungry".

He commended Jesus' mind of service and humility, which earned him majesty to people.

He said that "if I light your candle, it does not diminish me" and wished attendees a Merry Christmas.

Delivering the Royal Blessings, the Olowu of Owu, Oba Professor Saka Matemilola urged Nigerians to show love to each other and enjoined leaders to make service their watchword adding "are you a leader or a boss?"

The Ogun State Head of Service, Mr. Kehinde Onasanya, led other eminent Nigerians including the Vice Chancellor of Chrisland University, Professor Sola Arulogun, General Manager, Paramount FM, Mrs Oluremi Olugbenro, Mr. Wole Elusakin and Prof. Folu Eniolorunda to read the lessons at the Carol service.

Whilst welcoming guests earlier, the Chairman of the 2025 VLBC Carol Service, Mr. Akin Okudero thanked church members and some corporate organisations for supporting the Committee to organise a first of its kind Carol service for the Church.

Hundreds of children, the aged and winners of tickets went home with various food items and gifts.

The service was preceded by a segment tagged "Caroliganza" where colourfully dressed VLBC District members showcased their fashion steeze and dance moves to music supplied by the Brass Band and DJ O Mighty. Attendees mounted the 360 degrees picture stand and bouncing castles.

ACOMORAN President Apelogun Celebrates Governor Abiodun’s Mother, Mrs. Victoria Abiodun, at 90

The President of the Amalgamated Commercial Motorcycle, Tricycle Owners, Riders and Repairers Association of Nigeria (ACOMORAN), Alhaji Samsudeen Apelogun, has joined family members, friends, and well-wishers in celebrating Mrs. Victoria Olaitan Abiodun, the mother of the Ogun State Governor, Prince Dapo Abiodun, on her 90th birthday anniversary.

In a congratulatory message issued to newsmen in Abeokuta on Wednesday, Alhaji Apelogun described the nonagenarian as a rare woman of virtue, grace, and godliness whose life has been a source of inspiration to many across generations. 

He noted that attaining the age of 90 in sound health and happiness is a divine blessing worthy of celebration.

According to him, Mama Abiodun’s remarkable journey through life exemplifies resilience, faith, and dedication to family and community values. 

“Mama has lived a life full of grace and impact. Her guidance and motherly counsel have shaped many lives, including that of our amiable Governor, Prince Dapo Abiodun, whose leadership style reflects her moral upbringing,” he said.

The ACOMORAN President commended Mrs. Abiodun for her unwavering faith in God and her commitment to raising her children in the fear of the Lord. 

He said her legacy of humility, hard work, and compassion continues to reflect in the public service of her son, the Governor.

Apelogun also lauded Prince Dapo Abiodun for upholding the values and virtues instilled in him by his mother, noting that Ogun State has witnessed remarkable progress under his administration in various sectors, particularly in infrastructure, education, and human development.

The Information and Public Relations Officer attached to the office of the Ogun State Governor, Oluwafunso Obasan and that of Bureau of Information Technology/Ogun Tech Hub; Olayinka Ezema have both emerged as the Ogun NUJ Information and Public Relations Officer of the year and Ogun NUJ ICT/Technology reporter of the year (print/online) respectively.

The duo alongside, the Daily Post Correspondent in the State, Gift Oba, Kazeem Olowe of the Television Continental (TVC), Doyin Lasisi of the Ogun State Broadcasting Corporation (OGBC); Yemi Dalemo of the Nigerian Television Authority (NTA); Ayo Oluwunmi of the Ogun State Television (OGTV), Sanni Ismail of Kaftan TV; and Idris Oderinde of News Life Online all won awards in various categories.

The State Information Chapel of the Ogun NUJ under the leadership of Comrade Femi Osipitan was also awarded the 2025 Best Chapel of the year following the strict adherence to the constitutional provisions and several laudable ideas and programs being organized by the chapel. 

Speaking after receiving the award, the Chapel Chairman, Comrade Osipitan dedicated the award to God and the ever supportive members saying without their cooperation, the successes recorded would have been a mirage. 

The awards of excellence were presented to the recipients by the Chairman, Ogun State Council, Comrade Akinwale Olanrewaju during the Council’s dinner and awards night, held at Abeokuta, tagged, 'Asale Asa': Journaliganza which was the grand finale of the union’s 2025 annual press week.

Comrade Olanrewaju described the awards as a testament to dedication and quality journalism from its members, acknowledging the support of the state government, eminent personalities as well as that of members of the council while he promised that the council under his watch would continue to grow from strength to strength.

€228m Intervention Fund: Ogun State, 22 Others, FG, EIB Set to Tackle Erosion

The Ogun State government under the leadership of Governor Dapo Abiodun has affirmed its commitment to tackle the menace of erosion, gullies and land degradation being experienced in some parts of the State. 

This affirmation was made in Abuja by the Ogun State Project Coordinator of NEWMAP-EIB, Engr. Ismail Adenuga who led other staffers of the state project management unit to the official launch of the Nigeria Erosion and Watershed Management Project (NEWMAP) in partnership with the European Investment Bank (EIB), where the Gateway State joined 22 other states of the Federation, Federal Government delegation, EIB team and World Bank leaders to reiterate commitment towards safeguarding the Nigeria's ecosystem. 

Earlier in his address, the National Project Coordinator, NEWMAP-EIB, Engr. Ayuba Anda Yalaks assured that the project will restore degraded lands, enhance climate resilience, and strengthen livelihoods—aligning with the Federal Government’s broader developmental goals.

Engr. Yalaks added that the local communities across the country where the interventions would be carried out will be fully engaged for the sustainability of the project disclosing that it is when the local stakeholders are fully integrated that they can take ownership and protect the project. 

In his remarks, the Minister of Environment, Mr. Balarabe Lawal noted that the intervention is a landmark step in Nigeria’s climate adaptation efforts adding that the EIB partnership would help strengthen resilience in erosion-prone regions across the country. 

Lawal disclosed that the European Investment Bank is set to pay a huge sum of 175 million Euro with counterpart funding of 53 million Euro from the Federal Government and Subnational governments of 23 States adding that the event marked a pivotal step in Nigeria’s environmental restoration efforts. 

Ogun State which is one of the 23 States expected to benefit from the intervention said the project will support watershed management and erosion control especially due to its topography affirming the state's proactive stance in addressing critical ecological challenges.

The State Project Coordinator revealed that the sites that have been highlighted for intervention include; Makalewo and Olorunsogo gully sites, both in Ijebu Ode Local government area of the state, the Ojumele gully site in Sagamu Local government. Others include; the Ishakale gully site in Ado-Odo, Ota local government, Ilodo gully site in Ilaro area of the state and Igbore Robiyan gully site in Ifo local government area of the state.

OGUN NUJ Commends Gboyega Nasir Isiaka for Donating 100 Executive Chairs

The Nigeria Union of Journalists (NUJ), Ogun State Council, has expressed profound appreciation to Hon. Gboyega Nasir Isiaka (GNI) for his generous donation of 100 sophisticated, branded executive chairs to the Council. 

The gesture is seen as a remarkable contribution to the welfare and working environment of journalists in the state.

Presenting the chairs, Hon. Isiaka reaffirmed his commitment to supporting the media as a vital partner in deepening democracy, good governance, and accountability. 

He noted that journalists play a crucial role in nation-building, and equipping them with a conducive working environment is an investment in the growth of society.

In his remarks, the Chairman of Ogun NUJ, Comrade Wale Olanrewaju lauded the donation as timely, impactful, and a clear demonstration of GNI’s unwavering support for the Union.

₦250m Club House Launch: Former Speaker Admonishes Countrymen to Foster Progress and Unity

Former Speaker of Ogun State House of Assembly, who currently serves as Chairman, House of Assembly Service Commission, Rt. Hon. Suraj Ishola Adekunbi, has admonished indigenes of Yewa communities to be symbols of excellence in their various professions and endeavor to foster progress and unity among themselves. 

The Ex-Speaker gave the admonition during an official unveiling of the Grand Ayetoro City Club and launching of two hundred and fifty million naira (₦250m) club house in Ayetoro, Yewa North area of Ogun State. 

Applauding the club members for their uniqueness and community team spirit, Adekunbi enjoined them to continue to see to the social and economic growth and development of Yewa communities. 

Delivering a paper titled, "Togetherness We Rise, Building Community Through Fellowship and Service", the guest speaker, Dean, Faculty of Arts, Management and Science, Kola Daisi University, Ibadan, Oyo State, Prof. Jendele Hungbo explained that unity was the key ingredient in building a community that leads to social, educational, infrastructurural and political development.

Prof. Hungbo admonished members of Grand Ayetoro City Club to work together and speak with one voice for the progress of humanity to elevate Ogun West and the State at large, saying that Ayetoro indigenes should be conscious of their identities while contributing their quota in their different professions. 

Speaking at the event, the Pioneer President, Grand Ayetoro City Club, Hon. Morakinyo Ogooluwa Akinleye, stated that the club was established with the aim that each member would contribute to the growth and sustainability of Ayetoro community and Ogun State. 

Akinleye added that the club composed indigenes of Ayetoro either by paternal or maternal relations for great transformation and collective participations in building the society with opportunities for development of the youths and Ayetoro community.

HOUSE OF ASSEMBLY SERVICE COMMISSION ASSURES COLLABORATION WITH MAINSTREAM

A former Speaker of the Ogun State House of Assembly, who also serves as Chairman, Assembly Service Commission, Rt. Hon. Suraj Adekumbi has assured workers of the Commission and House of Assembly of their readiness to collaborate with the main Civil Service Commission in the State in achieving governmental set goals.

Adekumbi made the assurance in Abeokuta at the induction and training programme for newly recruited officers to the Commission, noting that the collaboration was imperative at ensuring synergy and growth between the Legislative and Executive Arms of Government.

He enjoined the officers to justify their recruitment in the service as a will of God and service to their father’s land, saying that many had no such opportunities, hence, the need for them to contribute their quota meaningfully well to the Commission and the State at large.

“Indeed, it is an opportunity for you to be a staff of the Commission, you need to contribute your expertise and knowledge to the growth and development of the Commission and the State Government, so as to justify your recruitment,” Adekumbi said.

The Ex Speaker applauded the State Governor, Prince Dapo Abiodun for the approval of both recruitment and the Induction of the new officers, noting that it was a blessing to the Executive and Legislative Arms.

In his remarks, the Head of Service, Mr. Kehinde Onasanya enjoined the inductees to live a life of accountability and transparency in service, adding that it was a grace for them to be shortlisted among the many applicants that applied for the job.

"You have been called into a noble job that needs total dedication, you must be well guided by the books and see your employment as a call to service and duty", HoS said.

In her contribution, Permanent Secretary, Bureau of Establishment and Training, Mrs. Lydia Fajounbo, said the collaboration of the Assembly Commission together with the mainstream was the first of its kind in the history of the Civil Service in the State, saying that the training was necessary to foster quality and efficiency in service delivery.

She admonished the new officers to abide by the rules and regulations, adding that there were various rules to guide them in the service for effective performance such as Civil Service, Public Service and Financial Regulation rules.

No Mystery in Ember Months, Road Users Should be More Cautious –FRSC Commander



Nigerians have been called upon to discard the long-held myth surrounding the last four months of the year, popularly referred to as the “ember months,” stressing that there is no peculiarity or mystery attached to that period of the calendar.

The Ogun State Sector Commander, Federal Road Safety Corps (FRSC), Corps Commander Akinwunmi Fasakin, stated this while addressing members of the Nigeria Union of Journalists (NUJ), Ogun State Information Chapel, during their monthly congress held at the Chief Olusegun Osoba Press Centre, Oke-Mosan, Abeokuta. 

Speaking on the theme: “Safety on Our Roads and the Ember Months Mystery”, Commander Fasakin explained that the rise in road crashes usually recorded during the ember months has nothing to do with superstition but with human, vehicular, and environmental factors with human factors being the dominant cause.

“The major reason we have an increase in the number of accidents during ember months is the surge in vehicular and economic activities on the roads during that period. Our target is to reduce crashes to the barest minimum,” he said.

He urged motorists and road users to obey safety guidelines such as avoiding overloading and overspeeding, not drinking and driving, and ensuring vehicles are in good condition before embarking on journeys. According to him, safety on the roads is not the responsibility of government alone but a collective obligation of all. 

Commander Fasakin further assured that the FRSC will continue to intensify its efforts by partnering with media organizations to enlighten the public on road safety practices.

ISLAND CLUB HOSTS NIGERIA @ 65 INDEPENDENCE LECTURE & AWARDS NIGHT

As Nigeria marks her 65th Independence Anniversary, Island Club, Nigeria’s premier social club and custodian of national dialogue since 1943, proudly announces the Nigeria @ 65 Independence Lecture & Awards Night, scheduled for Thursday, 2nd October 2025, at the historic Peacock Hall, Island Club, Lagos.

In a release signed by the Honorary General Secretary of the Club, Aare Ayodele Bankole, KCOP, the theme for this year is revealed as:

“Nigeria and the African Reawakening: The Giant That Must Not Sleep.”

The lecture will examine Nigeria’s historic journey from colonial subjugation to statehood, and critically engage her central role in Africa’s political and economic resurgence within the global order.

The keynote address will be delivered by Professor Patrick Loch Otieno Lumumba, the renowned Pan-Africanist, legal luminary, and globally respected thought leader.

The discussion will be enriched by a distinguished panel including:

 • Mr. Babatunde Raji Fashola, SAN, CON, former Governor of Lagos State and former Minister for Power, Works & Housing;

 • Professor Bolaji Akinyemi, CON, eminent diplomat, scholar, former Minister of External Affairs, and Special Guest of Honour;

NEWMAP-EIB: Ogun Govt. Pays ₦.5bn Counterpart Fund, 100% Ready to Tackle Gully Erosion - FG

In its continued effort towards effective flood and erosion control across the State, the Prince Dapo Abiodun led government in Ogun State has paid a counterpart fund of Five Hundred Million Naira (₦500,000,000) which is one of the major criteria to assessing support fund from European Investment Bank for approved intervention sites in the Nigeria Climate Adaptation – Erosion and Watershed Project (NEWMAP-EIB). 

The National Project Coordinator, NEWMAP-EIB, Engr. Ayuba Anda Yalaks made this known in Abeokuta during an inspection tour to Ogun State to assess the level of preparedness and readiness of the state and to have an "on the spot assessment" of the project sites that had been captured for intervention. 

The Federal Project Management Unit (FPMU) in company of the Ogun State Project Management Unit (SPMU) led by the National Project Coordinator inspected the Makalewo and Olorunsogo gully sites, both in Ijebu Ode Local government area of the state, the Ojumele gully site in Sagamu Local Government and Ishakale gully site in Ado - Odo Ota Local Government area of the state amongst others to determine the level of damages already caused by the erosion and proffer solutions. 

Speaking with journalists after the inspection exercise, Engr. Yalaks assured the state of the needed support from the federal government and development partners in terms of the technical guidance and finance affirming that Ogun State is hundred percent (100%) ready to commence operation. 

The National Project Coordinator who disclosed that the state has ticked the major criteria boxes to be considered ready as highlighted by the FPMU appreciated the Ogun State government for not paying lip service to the project while pleading with the state to do more to support the project with additional finance if and when the need arises. 

Receiving the team on behalf of the State Governor, the Chief Economic Adviser to the Governor who doubles as the Commissioner for Finance in the State, Mr. Dapo Okubadejo and his counterparts from the Ministries of Environment, Dr. Ola Oresanya and that of Budget and Planning, Mr. Olaolu Olabimtan appreciated the team for the visit disclosing that the payment of the counterpart funds revealed the commitment of the state to the project which would help to protect the residents against flood and erosion havocs.

The trio revealed that if other states fail to key into the project, Ogun State will not because the State is at the receiving end of the water coming from the upstream adding that Ogun state must be well prepared for the flood because if anything happens to Oyan Dam located on the longest tributaries to Ogun river, 

the impact would be so devastating to the communities downstream. 

On his part, the State Project Coordinator of NEWMAP-EIB, Engr. Ismail Adenuga disclosed that the essence of the visit and inspection tour was to assess the level of damage done by the erosion and its impact on the environment, communities and property with the aim of providing a lasting solution to the identified sites. 

Some residents of the affected areas, Messrs Abiodun Olubajo, Banuso Oyeyinka, Abiodun Olaloko, Kayode Bello and Mrs. Funmilayo Egbeleye, all pleaded with government to come to their aid for normalcy to return through the proper discharge of the flood into appropriate streams to avoid loss of lives and property. 

They also appreciated the government through the NEWMAP-EIB team for having the people at heart and planning to fix the gullies saying their coming alone is a relief that the days of erosions and flood wrecking havocs in their communities are numbered.

180 OFFICERS DECORATED WITH NEW RANKS

 Acting Commander General and Chief Executive Officer, Ogun State Traffic Compliance and Enforcement Agency (TRACE), Commander Elias Omonayajo, has decorated newly promoted officers of the Agency with new ranks.

The acting Trace Boss, while decorating the officers at TRACE'S Headquarters, OGTV Ajebo Road, Abeokuta, said they were promoted as a result of hard work and commitment to their primary responsibilities, noting that the promotion was to improve the delivery of the Agency.

"Your hard work and commitment to service have not gone unnoticed and this is the reason the State Government has deemed it necessary to promote you. Please, endeavor to justify the confidence reposed in you," he said.

He charged the newly promoted officers to see the promotion as a motivation for greater performance and as such they should exhibit exemplary conducts which their subordinates could emulate for better performance, while admonishing them to be alert to their primary assignment, saying "to whom much is given, much is expected", hence, they should remain shining examples.

 Speaking, Director Administration and Supplies, Mr. Adeyinka Adedutan, congratulated the newly promoted officers, advising them to justify their pay by being more productive.

Responding, Divisional Commander, Mile 2 Rounder Lafenwa, Commander, Oluwatoyin Adejumo and his counterpart from Obantoko Command, Agnes Odeyemi, appreciated the present administration for the gesture, promising to step up the level of commitments to traffic maintenance in the State, while enjoining junior officers to make diligence their watchword.

The decorated officers include, Area Commanders, Deputy Area Commanders, Corridor Commanders, Divisional Commanders as well as Special Squads.

RE-STRATEGIZE, SET NEW BENCHMARKS TO POSITION OGUN AS LEADER IN HEALTHCARE - HoS

 Ogun State Head of Service, Mr. Kehinde Onasanya, has called on Medical Personnel in the State to come up with strategies, and collectively design solutions that will position the State as true leader in National Healthcare Service Delivery.

Mr. Onasanya made the call at Ijebu-Ode, during a 3-day Strategic Retreat organised by the Leadership of Ogun State Hospitals Management Board for its Management Staff, Heads of Zones, Heads of Hospitals, Apex Nurses and top officers in the State's Health Sector.

The Head of Service who appreciated the present administration for not paying lip service at building a well-equipped, knowledgeable and proactive workforce capable of meeting the needs of the people, revealed that the retreat would provide the opportunity for Medical Personnel to rethink strategies that would face the global challenges in the health systems.

Onasanya, while speaking on the theme: ‘Strategic Leadership and Management as Panacea for Effective, Efficient and Qualitative Health Care Delivery’, disclosed that the retreat directly complements the stern commitment of the Government of Ogun State to capacity development across the Public Service.

On her part, Commissioner for Health, Ogun State, Dr. Tomi Coker, appreciated the Governor for his approval and release of funds for the acquisition of Infrastructures for the health facilities, granting exit replacement and upgrading of the State's Ambulance Services, while charging the participants to embrace the use of the 4 P's which centered on the Perception, Process, People and Projection in the discharge of their duties.

Coker who emphasised on the importance of data, disclosed that it was not just for collection purposes but to make critical decisions that would help the people in every nook and cranny for better healthcare outcome across the State.

In their separate contributions, Special Advisers to the Governor on Health, Dr. Tayo Lawal and Dr. Rotimi Ogungbe, Permanent Secretary, Ministry of Health, Dr. Kayode Oladehinde, charged the participants to rub minds and share experiences on how to effectively and efficiently deliver adequate healthcare services to the people of the State.

Speaking on the purpose of the retreat, Permanent Secretary, Hospitals Management Board, Dr. Olayinka Elemide, revealed that the retreat was to adequately and clearly share the vision of the State government for the Health Sector with all the Heads of Health Zones, Hospitals and Facilities across the State so that every citizens could enjoy an affordable and accessible health care services.

Speaking on behalf of the participants, Chief Medical Director, State Hospital, Ijaiye, Medical Directors of Owode Egba Hospital and her counterpart from the Oba Ademola Maternity Hospital, Dr. Bunmi Osinaike, Dr. Yomibo Sofolahan and Dr. Gabriel Taiwo respectively, appreciated the Management of the Board for the opportunity to participate in the retreat, noting that it would help them to be more productive and efficient in service delivery.

OGUN LGSC CHAIR APPLAUDS NIPR MASTERCLASS ON CRISIS COMMUNICATION

The Chairman of the Ogun State Local Government Service Commission (LGSC), Ms. Olivia Olubukunola Onabanjo, has commended Ogun State Chapter of the Nigerian Institute of Public Relations (NIPR) for hosting a transformative masterclass on Crisis Communication and Reputation Management.

She gave the commendation while addressing participants during the closing ceremony of a two-day workshop held at Event Towers, Kuto, Abeokuta, where she described the initiative as a timely intervention that would equip public relations professionals with essential skills for navigating today’s fast-paced media landscape.  

Represented by the Permanent Secretary of the Commission, Engr. Olanike Ogunbona, Ms Onabanjo noted that the workshop has created a robust platform for practitioners to sharpen their capacity in managing reputational risks and executing strategic communications in a digital-first era.

“Professionalism in public relations transcends titles, it demands a commitment to continuous learning, ethical standards and the preservation of public trust. This workshop has fulfilled its core objective by empowering participants to confront reputational threats with precision and confidence", she said.

In her closing remarks, Ogun NIPR Chairman, Mrs. Oluwaseun Boye, appreciated the participants for their active engagement and reaffirmed the Chapter’s commitment to delivering more professional development programmes in the future.

Speaking on behalf of participants from Ogun-Osun River Basin Development Authority, Mr. Salisu Adeniyi, said they were deeply satisfied with the training, disclosing that they had been intellectually enriched and better equipped to handle real-life challenges by being truthful, strategic in planning and proactive engagement.

The workshop featured a series of technical sessions led by seasoned facilitators like Dr. Toyin Onayinka who introduced the Foundations of Crisis Management, while Mrs. Thelma Okoh addressed Crisis Preparedness and Risk Assessment, Mr. Tope Daramola guided participants through Message Development and Spokesperson Training and Mr. Segun McMedal tackled Media and Digital Crisis Response just as hands-on simulation led by Mr. Bolaji Abimbola, brought theory principles to life application realities. 

ACC Abdullahi Maiwada who spoke on Long-term Reputation Recovery also enlightened the audience with cases and issues of crisis management, while Dr. Toyin Onayinka concluded the sessions with insights on Stakeholder Communication and Public Trust.

The Chairman of the Organizing Committee, Mr. Niyi Oduwole, expressed satisfaction at the array of resource personnel at the workshop, whom he noted had employed professionalism coupled with wealth of experiences to enlighten the participants. 

He also appreciated the participants for their inclusive participation judging by the qualities of questions raised as well as smart and highly intelligent contributions given, advising them to employ the knowledge gained in the discharge of their duties at their various organizations.

The Nigerian Institute of Public Relations, Ogun State Chapter, has organized a two-day workshop for practitioners in the State, with the theme, "Navigating the Digital Storm: Mastering Crucial Communication and Reputation Management", to enhance service delivery for Public Relations Professionals across the Public and private organizations.

Declaring the event open, at an event centre, Kuto, Abeokuta, Ogun State Head of Service, Mr. Kehinde Onasanya, emphasized the importance of communicating with knowledge, accountability and quality service delivery in governance and organizational success.

Represented by the Permanent Secretary, Bureau of Public Service, Mr. Jola Oyeneye, the Head of Service emphasized that the digital revolution has transformed not only how we communicate but also how both public and private institutions are perceived, urging participants to leverage the workshop to sharpen their skills and adopt best practices in Public Relations and communication.

In her welcome speech earlier, the Chairperson, Ogun State NIPR, Mrs. Oluwaseun Boye, disclosed that the training was first-of-its-kind for image makers in the State and it marks a significant milestone for NIPR, Ogun State as a demonstration of the Institute's commitment to promoting excellence in Public Relations and Communication. 

"The workshop is a significant step towards enhancing service delivery in Ogun State, by equipping Public Relations Professionals with contemporary strategies and skills, the NIPR Ogun Chapter is promoting excellence in governance and organizational success", she remarked.

Also speaking, the Permanent Secretary, Ogun State Local Government Service Commission, Engr. Olanike Ogunbona, highlighted the significance of learning in a digital world, encouraging participants to fully participate and contribute meaningfully to the discussions.

The workshop featured expert-led sessions like Understanding Crisis Communication by Dr. Toyin Onayinka, Crisis Preparedness and Risk Assessment by Mrs Thelma Okoh, Message Development and Spokesperson Training by Mr. Tope Adaramola and Managing the Media and Digital Crisis Response by Mr Segun Mac-Medal who employed industrial knowledge, expertise, share knowledge, and best practices in Public Relations and Communication..

AG CHARGES STAFFERS ON REGULAR MEDICAL CHECK UP

The Accountant General/Permanent Secretary, Treasury, Mr. Babatunde Aregbesola has charged members of staff to take routine medical checks seriously as their health is the greatest asset.

Speaking during the organised health talk and routine medical checks for the staff, the Accountant General emphasised the importance of health consciousness in the workplace, urging staff to be deliberate about their choice of lifestyle.

“Your health is your greatest asset, and you must be intentional about how you live. A little discipline today can make the difference between life and an untimely death tomorrow,” he said.

Mr. Aregbesola explained that the initiative was part of the agency’s commitment to the welfare of its staff, adding that maintaining a healthy workforce was key to efficiency and long-term productivity.

Delivering a health talk on Sudden Death: Causes and Prevention, a Consultant at the State Primary Health Care Board, Dr. Yomibo Shofolahan explained that conditions such as cardiac arrest, heart attack, stroke, pulmonary embolism, and aortic rupture were often behind cases of Sudden Unexplained Death Syndrome.

Dr. Shofolahan noted that, while these events may appear sudden, many were triggered by underlying health issues that could have been detected and managed with regular checkups and healthy habits.

She listed several preventive measures to include, a balanced diet, regular exercise, adequate sleep, avoidance of tobacco and alcohol and routine medical screenings, noting that these simple lifestyle choices could have a profound impact on long-term health, if everyone take personal responsibility for their well-being.

Speaking on behalf of other participants, Ms. Oluwatobi Idowu appreciated the Accountant General’s Office for organising the health programme, noting that the session was both enlightening and timely as it had opened her eyes to the importance of proactive health management.

Highpoint of the event was the free medical screenings for staff, which included blood pressure checks, blood sugar tests, eye examinations, and one-on-one medical consultation.
