Ogun State Government has begun sale of rice at subsidised rate to pensioners, as a way of cushioning the effect of economic hardship facing the country.
Permanent Secretary, Bureau of State Pensions, Mr. Adesoji Adewuyi, who stated this in Abeokuta, noted that the point of sale of the rice is at the Pensioners Events Centre, Abiola Way, Abeokuta, saying Governor Abiodun ordered the sale for pensioners to acknowledge the senior citizens' contribution to the development of the state.
Reacting, the Chairman, Nigeria Union of Pensioners, Comrade Waheed Oloyede, appreciated the state government for making the retirees' welfare a front burner in this economic situation, pledging members' continuous support to the present administration.
Some of the beneficiaries gave kudos to the governor for the gesture and prayed for God's guidance.
