Ogun NUJ Information Chapel Swears In New Executives as Abiodun Emerges Chairman

The Nigeria Union of Journalists, Ogun State Information Chapel has inaugurated a new set of Executive Council members following the elections held during the August Congress of the chapel. 

In her acceptance speech, the newly elected Chairman, Comrade Bolaji Abiodun thanked members for the trust placed in the new leadership, pledging to steer the chapel with transparency, fairness, and dedication, while also assuring to prioritize members’ welfare and professional growth. 

Comrade Abiodun said the success of the administration would rest on unity and the cooperation of all members, urging journalists to uphold the ethics of the profession and practice responsible journalism that serves the public and protects the image of the union.

The Chairman assured that the new executives would run an open-door policy, encourage constructive engagement, and introduce programs to build professional capacity, improve members’ welfare, and promote harmony within the chapel, adding that leadership is about service and not personal gain.

"Leadership is not about position, but about service, representation and making a positive difference in the lives of those we lead. I seek your cooperation, ideas and support, because this is not my administration alone, it is our administration. Together, I believe we can build a stronger, more united and more responsive Chapel", she said.

She further reaffirmed the new administration’s commitment to building a vibrant and progressive Information Chapel that upholds the core values of the NUJ and contributes meaningfully to the development of journalism.

Earlier in his charge, the Chairman, Nigeria Union of Journalists, Ogun State Council, Comrade Akinwale Olanrewaju represented by the Council Vice Chairman, Comrade Abiodun Lawal enjoined the new leadership to carry on the legacy of progress that is synonymous with Information chapel while encouraging them to abide by and be guided by the Union's Constitution. 

On his part, the Permanent Secretary, Ministry of Information and Strategy, Mr. Waheed Adeshina while congratulating the new executives charged them not to drop the ball praying that their tenure will be eventful. 

Lending his voice, the immediate past Chairman of the Chapel, Comrade Femi Osipitan enjoined all members to give the new executives adequate support adding that this is the only way the new leadership can succeed. 

Highlight of the event was the presentation of certificates of return to the Comrade Bolaji Abiodun as Chairman, Comrade Funso Obasan as Vice Chairman, Comeade Yemisi Fashola as Secretary, Comrade Wasiu Ramoni as Assistant Secretary. Others include, Comrade Segun Owotomo as Treasurer, Comrade Taiwo Soremekun as Financial Secretary and Comrade Mosunmola Shobo as Auditor.

OGUN SEEKS TO BOOST FORESTRY REVENUE WITH EUCALYPTUS PLANTATION INITIATIVE

The Ogun State Government has commenced moves to harness the economic potential of eucalyptus trees as part of efforts to boost internally generated revenue (IGR), create investment opportunities and promote sustainable forest management across the State.

The initiative, would be undertaken in collaboration with stakeholders in the forestry sector and Huafa Forest Resources Development of Nigeria Co. Ltd., with plans to introduce and cultivate eucalyptus seedlings across the state's forest reserves.

Speaking during a stakeholders' engagement at the Conference Room of the Ministry of Forestry, Oke-Mosan, Abeokuta, the Commissioner for Forestry, Hon. Taiwo Oludotun, urged charcoal dealers, timber contractors, farmers and other stakeholders in the forestry sector to embrace the initiative and take advantage of the economic opportunities presented by eucalyptus cultivation.

Oludotun, said the initiative would not only provide an additional source of income for participants in the forestry value chain but also contribute significantly to the state's Internally Generated Revenue (IGR).

According to him, eucalyptus has a relatively short maturity period of between four and five years, making it an attractive investment compared with some other economic tree species that would require more than 10 years to mature.

The Commissioner also disclosed that oil extracted from eucalyptus leaves had been touted widely used in the production of mosquito repellents, creating additional economic value from the plant.

He explained that the Ministry adopted eucalyptus cultivation as part of its strategy to promote sustainable forest development, expressing optimism that, demand for the tree would continue to increase because of its diverse industrial and commercial applications.

He noted that eucalyptus wood could be used for furniture production, paper manufacturing, roofing materials and several other purposes, thereby providing a ready market for farmers and investors.

Also speaking, the Marketing Manager of Huafa Forest Resources Development of Nigeria Co. Ltd., Mr. John Yi, said the company had secured a good numbers of hectares of land across the country, with the capacity to cultivate and produce more than eight million seedlings annually.

Yi, explained that the eucalyptus tree was characterised by rapid growth, strong wood and a survival rate of about 90 per cent, making it highly suitable for commercial plantation development.

He said the company believed the investment offered the potential for high returns with relatively low production risks, adding that farmers could harvest the trees within four to five years due to their fast growth rate and strong market demand.

According to him, about 1,650 eucalyptus seedlings could be planted on one hectare of land using a spacing of two metres by two metres.

Yi, further announced a price reduction for stakeholders purchasing the seedlings in large quantities, stating that the cost would be subsidised from ₦600 to ₦360 per seedling.

He added that a mature eucalyptus tree could fetch about ₦12,000 or more, depending on prevailing economic conditions and market prices at the time of harvest.

A stakeholder and Professor of Forestry and Conservation at the Federal University of Agriculture, Abeokuta (FUNAAB), Prof. Segun Oladoye, described eucalyptus as a tree species with significant economic potential.

Oladoye, said its high survival rate and relatively fast growth had made it attractive to investors and farmers, adding that Ogun State would derive substantial economic benefits from the initiative in the coming years.

He noted that the investment would particularly benefit stakeholders involved in commercial tree planting, as it had the potential to generate attractive returns over time.

The professor also highlighted the adaptability of eucalyptus to agroforestry, explaining that the seedlings could be cultivated alongside crops such as pepper, tomato and maize under appropriate farming practices.

He encouraged farmers and other stakeholders to explore the opportunities presented by eucalyptus cultivation while adhering to proper forestry and agroforestry management practices.

The highlight of the event was the symbolic presentation of eucalyptus seedlings to stakeholders and the State Forester, with the beneficiaries pledging to invest in the cultivation of the tree and support the state's efforts towards sustainable forestry development.

HEALTHY NUTRITION, MEDICAL CHECK-UPS KEY TO PRODUCTIVITY – OGUN ACCOUNTANT-GENERAL

The Ogun State Accountant-General and Permanent Secretary (Treasury), Mr. Olalekan Taiwo, has stated that healthy nutrition and regular medical check-ups are essential pillars of healthy living and improved productivity among workers.

Speaking during the Office of the Accountant-General's Quarterly Health talk and routine medical check-up organised for members of staff at Oke-Mosan, Abeokuta, Mr. Taiwo, described the exercise as an opportunity for workers to assess their health status, detect potential health challenges early and take proactive steps towards maintaining a healthy living.

He noted that good health and medical fitness were critical to enhancing productivity and ensuring efficient service delivery.

Delivering a lecture titled ‘Nutrition’: Impact on Human Health and Self-Esteem, a Consultant with the Ogun State Primary Health Care Board, Dr. Yomibo Shofolahan, said healthy nutrition played a vital role in promoting physical wellbeing, mental confidence and overall quality of life.

Dr. Shofolahan, explained that the food people consume served as fuel for the body, stressing that eating the right food at the right time was a demonstration of self-care and respect for one's health.

She described the mouth as the gateway to the body, urging participants to be mindful of their food choices and cultivate healthy eating habits.

The consultant advised participants to maintain a balanced diet by eating a variety of nutritious foods, drinking adequate water and consuming only the quantity of food the body required, urging them to make conscious efforts towards healthy eating and regard food as medicine.

She further recommended that breakfast should be the most important meal of the day, saying it should be eaten "like a king," lunch "like a prince" and dinner "like a pauper," while advising participants to reduce their intake of fried, salty and overly spicy foods, choose natural foods whenever possible and adopt healthy lifestyles that promote long-term wellbeing.

Speaking on behalf of other participants, Mr. Sanyaolu Akinjide, expressed appreciation to the Accountant-General for sustaining the health initiative and commended the resource person for the lecture.

He urged members of staff to put the knowledge gained into practice by embracing healthy lifestyles and making regular medical check-ups a priority.

Oni Electronics CEO Installed Moraje of Owu Kingdom

The Chief Executive Officer and Managing Director of Oni Electronics, Chief Mrs. Florence Oni-Quadri, has been installed as the Moraje of Owu Kingdom during activities marking the fourth coronation anniversary of the Olowu of Owu Kingdom, Oba Saka Adelola Matemilola.

The colourful ceremony, held at the Olowu's Palace, attracted traditional rulers, high chiefs, business leaders, associates, family members and well-wishers who witnessed the conferment of the prestigious traditional title.

The highlight of the event was the administration of the oath of office and allegiance, formally investing Oni-Quadri with the chieftaincy title amid displays of Owu cultural heritage, pageantry and royal splendour.

Speaking at the ceremony, the Olowu described the honour as well deserved, praising the new chief for her philanthropy, entrepreneurial achievements and contributions to the economic development of Egbaland.

A reception followed the installation, with guests treated to entertainment by Islamic and Juju musicians, while the Alake and Paramount Ruler of Egbaland, Oba Michael Adedotun Gbadebo, joined other dignitaries to celebrate the new Moraje.

Dignitaries at the event described Oni-Quadri as a woman of distinction, industry and selfless service, saying the honour reflected her commitment to community development and economic empowerment.

OGUN MARKS 2026 WORLD POPULATION DAY, PLEDGES TO INVEST IN YOUTH DEVELOPMENT

 Ogun State Government has reaffirmed its commitment to priotising youth affairs at the centre of its development planning as it joined the global community to mark the 2026 World Population Day.

The event, which took place at the hall of Nigerian Medical Association, NMA building, Ijeun Lukosi, Abeokuta was in collaboration with the Ministry of Budget and Planning, United Nations Population Fund (UNFPA), Ogun State Bureau of Statistics (OGSBS) and National Population Commission.

Delivering the keynote address, Commissioner for Budget and Planning, Mr. Olaolu Olabimtan, who was represented by the Permanent Secretary, Ministry of Local Government and Chieftaincy Affairs, Dr. Rotimiolu Akinlesi, said that the 2026 edition’s theme, "Realising the Hopes and Aspirations of Young People Today and for the Future," spoke directly to the heart of sustainable development and that of the State.

Olabimtan, highlighted that the World Population Day was a reminder that population was not just about numbers but about people's rights, choices, opportunities, well-being and dignity.

He called for collective action from government, private sectors and communities to ensure that the hopes of the youths were realised today and for the future.

In her opening remarks, the Statistician General, Ogun State Bureau of Statistics, Mrs. Omolara Adebayo, explained that the symposium was designed to provide a platform for meaningful dialogue between policy makers, development partners, professionals and young people.

She added that the symposium was aimed at broadening participants' understanding of population dynamics, emphasising the importance of evidence-based planning, encouraging responsible life choices and inspiring youths to pursue their aspirations with confidence and determination.

She advised the students who were present at the symposium to listen attentively, ask questions, participate actively in the discussions and make the most of the opportunities the programme presented.

‘’ The knowledge and inspiration you gain today may shape the decisions you make tomorrow and influence the future you aspire to build," she stated.

In his submission, Special Assistant to the Governor on Youth Development, Hon. Babatunde Delu, represented by Chairman of the National Youth Council of Nigeria, Mr. Akolawole Soremi, described the theme as both timely and thought-provoking.

He stated that Ogun State regarded its youthful population as one of its greatest assets, adding that when young people were included in policymaking and given access to quality education, the sky would surely become their starting point.

In his goodwill message, State Officer, National Bureau of Statistics (NBS), Mr. Olumide Akingbogun, emphasised that the NBS was committed to providing timely, reliable and disaggregated data that would support planning at all levels of government and aid partners like UNFPA to answer critical questions.

 "We must prioritise inclusivity by leaving no one behind especially women, youths, persons with disabilities and vulnerable groups," he urged.

A participant from National Youth Council of Nigeria, Oladipupo Ademola and a student from DS Adegbenro Polytechnic, Itori, Azeez Zainab, appreciated the State Government for carrying the youth along in their policy making, adding that the training had opened their minds to lots of opportunities.

Arigbabu Emerges NUJ Commissioner of The Year

The Ogun State Commissioner for Education, Science and Technology, Prof. Abayomi Arigbabu, has been honoured with the Commissioner of the Year Award by the Nigeria Union of Journalists (NUJ), Information Chapel, in recognition of his outstanding leadership and remarkable contributions to the transformation of the education sector in the State.

Presenting the award during the July Monthly Congress of the Chapel held at the Olusegun Osoba Press Centre, Oke-Mosan, Abeokuta, the Chairman of the NUJ Information Chapel, Comrade Oluwafemi Osipitan, said the honour was in recognition of Prof. Arigbabu's exceptional performance, particularly his introduction of innovative policies and developmental initiatives that have repositioned education in Ogun State.

He noted that under Prof. Arigbabu's leadership, the education sector has witnessed significant reforms, including the restoration of discipline and quality assurance in public schools, improved teacher capacity development, the implementation of technology-driven learning initiatives, the promotion of technical and vocational education, and the strengthening of partnerships with financial institutions and development partners to support educational advancement.

Comr. Osipitan acknowledged the state's consistent commitment to improving school infrastructure, enhancing teaching and learning, promoting excellence through various educational programmes, and creating an enabling environment that has restored public confidence in the state's education system.

Describing the Commissioner as "a round peg in a round hole," he commended his dedication, professionalism, and unwavering commitment to raising educational standards, noting that Ogun State has become a reference point for education reforms across the country.

Responding, Prof. Arigbabu expressed appreciation to the NUJ Information Chapel for the recognition, describing the award as both humbling and inspiring. He dedicated the honour to Governor Dapo Abiodun, whose visionary leadership and unwavering support, he said, have made the successful implementation of the administration's educational reforms possible.

The Commissioner reaffirmed the Ministry's commitment to sustaining policies and programmes that would further improve access to quality education, strengthen learning outcomes, and equip learners with the knowledge and skills required to compete globally.

OGEPA GM MAKES UNSCHEDULED VISIT TO A FACTORY IN OGIJO

The General Manager of the Ogun State Environmental Protection Agency (OGEPA), Hon. Kehinde Bello has conducted an unscheduled visit to Metal Recycling Industries Limited, located in Ogijo, Sagamu Local Government Area, as part of the Agency's commitment to ensuring strict compliance with environmental regulations across the State.

The surprise inspection was aimed at assessing the company's level of compliance with environmental laws and standards, particularly in the areas of pollution control, waste management and adherence to conditions contained in its environmental approvals.

During the inspection, the General Manager alongside the enforcement unit of the agency made a comprehensive tour of the facility, examined the company's production processes, waste disposal methods, air emission control measures and overall environmental management practices, to ascertain compliance with existing environmental standards.

Hon. Bello reiterated that OGEPA remained committed to protecting the environment and public health through regular monitoring and enforcement activities, noting that routine and unscheduled inspections had become an integral part of the Agency's strategy to promote environmental responsibility among industries operating in Ogun State.

He emphasised that industries must comply with all environmental regulations, obtain necessary environmental permits and implement effective pollution prevention measures to minimize the impact of their operations on surrounding communities.

The GM thereafter encouraged the management of Metal Recycling Industries Limited to sustain environmental best practices, promptly address any identified areas requiring improvement and continue to cooperate with OGEPA in promoting a cleaner, healthier, and more sustainable environment.

As Public Relations professionals across the globe commemorate the 2026 World Public Relations Day, the Ogun State Chapter of the Nigerian Institute of Public Relations (NIPR), has spotlighted the critical role of strategic communication in healthcare management by honouring the Medical Director of the Federal Medical Centre (FMC), Abeokuta, Dr. Sarah Titilola Ibiyemi, for her exemplary leadership and unwavering support for the profession.

Leading the delegation on a courtesy visit to the medical facility, the Chairman of the Ogun State Chapter of NIPR, Mrs. Oluwaseun Boye, described Public Relations as an indispensable management function that has become central to effective governance, institutional reputation, stakeholder engagement and public trust, particularly within the healthcare sector.

Mrs. Boye said the visit formed part of activities marking this year's World Public Relations Day, with the theme, "The Golden Age of Strategic PR", saying it was a global celebration dedicated to promoting ethical communication, transparency, accountability and trust-building between organisations and their stakeholders.

She noted that the choice of Dr. Ibiyemi for special recognition was informed not only by her emergence as the first female Chief Medical Director of the Federal Medical Centre, Abeokuta, but also by her demonstrated belief in the strategic value of professional Public Relations.

"Your appointment is a landmark achievement that speaks to excellence, resilience and visionary leadership. Beyond making history as the first woman to occupy this office, you have continued to demonstrate that effective leadership is strengthened by strategic communication and meaningful stakeholder engagement," Mrs. Boye stated.

The Ogun NIPR Chairman praised Dr. Ibiyemi for elevating the status of Public Relations practitioners within the Federal Medical Centre through the appointment of a certified member of the Institute as the Head of its Public Relations Department, noting that the appointment, which she described as a practical demonstration of the value placed on the profession, she informed that it alligned with global best practices in strategic institutional management. 

According to her, healthcare institutions are increasingly evaluated not only by the quality of clinical services they provide but also by how effectively they communicate with patients, employees, government agencies, development partners and the public at large, explaining that ethical communication has become one of the strongest drivers of institutional credibility, especially in sensitive sectors as healthcare, where public confidence can directly influence service delivery and organisational reputation.

"Public confidence is built on trust, and trust is built through communication. In today's healthcare environment, quality medical services must be complemented by credible, timely and professional communication. This is why Public Relations has become an essential management function in every progressive institution," she said.

Mrs. Boye added that World Public Relations Day provides an opportunity to remind leaders in both the public and private sectors that sustainable institutions are built on transparency, accountability and consistent stakeholder engagement.

NIGERIA CANNOT BE DEFINED BY CORRUPTION - RT. HON. ADEKUNBI

The Chairman of the Ogun State House of Assembly Service Commission, Rt. Hon. Suraju Adekunbi, has said corruption is not peculiar to Nigeria but a human temptation that requires strong institutional code that will guide against it in both government establishment and in the private sector

Adekunbi, made the submission while delivering a paper titled "Preventing Fraud and Corrupt Practices within Government Agencies and Private Sector" at an event organised by the Fight Against Corruption Organisation, FACO, in Oke-Mosan, Abeokuta.

He stated that government must prioritise building resilient systems that could not be compromised and also entrench ethical leadership, noting that it would be the foundation for eradicating corruption at all levels and fostering a healthy society.

He further made it known that Ogun State is unique, hence, it should be positioned to be the first State in Nigeria with zero tolerance for corruption.

He recommended implementing full digitisation, radical transparency, job rotation, regular auditing and strong whistle-blower protection system as key measures to curb corruption, stressing that civic values should be embedded in the school curriculum at every level of education.

SAPZ/OGSG/IFAD FLAG OFF DISTRIBUTION OF AGRICULTURAL INPUTS TO CASSAVA FARMRERS

In a significant step towards advancing agricultural transformation and strengthening food security, the Ogun State Government, in collaboration with the International Fund for Agricultural Development (IFAD), has flagged off the distribution of agricultural inputs to 2,740 cassava farmers under the Special Agro-Industrial Processing Zones (SAPZ) Programme, reaffirming its commitment to building a technology-driven, climate-smart and commercially viable agricultural sector that attracts investment, strengthens agricultural value chains and improves farmers' incomes.

Flagging off the distribution at Abeokuta, the Commissioner for Agriculture and Food Security, Honourable Bolu Owotomo, described the intervention as a strategic investment in the future of agriculture in Ogun State. He said the initiative reflected the unwavering commitment of the Prince Dapo Abiodun-led administration to empowering farmers, increasing food production and driving sustainable economic growth.

The Commissioner noted that agriculture remained the cornerstone of the administration's 'Building Our Future Together' agenda, adding that beyond the distribution of agricultural inputs, the SAPZ Programme had delivered critical infrastructure that would create an enabling environment for agribusinesses to thrive and stimulate rural development.

He disclosed that the State Government, through the programme, had distributed over 11,400 agricultural input packages to 2,480 rice farmers and 8,628 cassava farmers across the State, while 12,000 farmers had benefitted from capacity-building and extension services, aimed at improving productivity, promoting climate-smart agricultural practices and enhancing livelihoods.

Speaking at the event, the acting State Programme Coordinator, Mr. Ibrahim Buṣi, explained that the distribution formed part of the collaborative efforts of the Ogun State Government, the Special Agro-industrial processing Zones Programmes, IFAD and other development partners to provide farmers with the resources needed to improve productivity and expand agricultural enterprises.

According to him, the intervention would create employment opportunities, strengthen food security, improve household incomes and enhance the socio-economic wellbeing of farming communities across the State.

Also speaking, the Agricultural Productivity Officer, Mr. Olawale Odunaya, revealed that each agricultural input package, comprising NPK fertiliser, improved cassava stems and agrochemicals, was valued at ₦126,000. He explained that under the programme's matching grant arrangement, male beneficiaries contributed only ₦37,200, while female beneficiaries paid ₦26,500, with the balance subsidised through the SAPZ Programme.

Mr. Odunaya, further announced that the intervention would soon be extended to additional participating local government areas, including Odeda, Ikenne, Yewa South, Ijebu North East and Ijebu East, to enable more farmers benefit from the initiative.

The beneficiaries who were drawn from the participating local government include Obafemi Owode, Odogbolu, Yewa North and Ijebu North Local Government Areas, received one bag of NPK fertiliser, four litres of agrochemicals and improved cassava cuttings to enhance productivity and increase cassava output.

Responding on behalf of other beneficiaries, Mr. Oluwaseun John and Mrs. Oluwafunmilayo Ewejẹ, expressed appreciation to the Federal Government, Ogun State Government, IFAD and the SAPZ Programme for the timely intervention, describing the support as a major boost that would improve their farming activities, increase yields and enhance their livelihoods.

The flag-off ceremony further underscored the Ogun State Government's resolve to leverage strategic partnerships and targeted investments to modernise agriculture, empower smallholder farmers, promote agro-industrial development and accelerate the state's drive towards sustainable food security, economic diversification and inclusive prosperity.

OGEPA MEDIATE DISPUTE BETWEEN MONARCH STEEL MILL, OGIJO COMMUNITY

Ogun State Environmental Protection Agency (OGEPA) has intervened in a dispute between Monarch Steel Mill Limited and Olorunsogo Ipetoro Community Development Association (CDA), Ogijo, Sagamu Local Government Area, following a petition submitted by the community.

The petition, signed by the Chairman of the community, Mr. Michael Bilesanmi, was presented to OGEPA, drawing the Agency's attention to concerns surrounding the expansion plan of Monarch Steel Mill Limited.

The community also sought an investigation into the company's acquisition of properties within the community, expressing concerns over the manner in which the exercise was being carried out as part of efforts to expand its activities

In response to the petition, General Manager of OGEPA, Hon. Kehinde Bello, convened a stakeholders' meeting involving representatives of the community and Monarch Steel Mill Limited to resolve the issues through dialogue and mutual understanding.

Speaking during the meeting, Hon. Bello, stressed the importance of proper industrial planning, noting that industries should be located within designated industrial zones, adding that environmental sustainability and the welfare of host communities must remain a priority in industrial development.

Bello, said the expansion was a process of establishing a proposed buffer zone, aimed at ensuring the company's operation do not adversely affect residents and other developed areas within the community.

The General Manager emphasised that, while industries have the right to expand their operations, such expansion must be carried out in accordance with environmental regulations and with due respect for the rights of residents and property owners within the affected communities.

At the end of the deliberations, all parties agreed that Monarch Steel Mill Limited should not compel any resident to sell his or her property and it was resolved that only property owners who were willing to sell should be considered in the company's acquisition process.

The resolutions reached at the meeting were unanimously accepted by representatives of the community and the company, with stakeholders expressing optimism that the agreements would promote peaceful coexistence, protect residents' interests and ensure that industrial activities were carried out in an environmentally responsible manner.

Also, the community electricity transformer should be relocated within the company's premises, while an access gate should be provided to enable both the community and the company have unhindered access to the facility with the directive that the company should undertake the repair of the transformer.

Gov. Abiodun Sustains Efforts of Founding Fathers, Positions Ogun for Greater Development - Onasanya

The continued progress and development being experienced by the Gateway State over 50 years of its creation has been credited to the deliberate efforts made by its forebears, strength of its people, the commitment of its public service rooted in integrity, discipline and professionalism, as well as the sustained developmental agenda of successive governments. 

A former Head of Service of Ogun State, Mr. Kehinde Onasanya who made this known at the 2026 Ogun State @50 London Summit and Jubilee Awards organized by the Central Association of Ogun State Indigenes in United Kingdom at the Woolwich Common Community Centre, London disclosed that "the civil service became the engine room of governance, providing continuity, stability, and institutional guidance while laying the foundation for the excellence that has become synonymous with Ogun State".

Speaking on the topic, "Public Service Institutional Memories and Ogun @ 50", Mr. Onasanya revealed that the Service is the backbone of governance, affirming that without a strong and effective public service, even the most brilliant policies will fail. 

He added that Institutional Memories serves as the repository of knowledge, experience, and lessons learned over time which prevents workers from repeating mistakes and enables those coming behind to build on past successes.

Speaking about the remarkable transformation in Ogun over the past five decades, the former Head of Service revealed that the State has evolved in both structure, function and infrastructural development to meet the demands of a rapidly changing world, following the policies and programs of successive administrations with the most recent being the ISEYA Agenda of Prince Dapo Abiodun. 

Onasanya noted that the State under the present leadership has witnessed remarkable progress across multiple sectors to include infrastructural development, economic diversification, and institutional strengthening. 

Highlighting some significant milestones that have placed the State on global map, Onasanya said the construction of the Gateway International Airport, the development of a deep seaport and a dry inland port, several road infrastructures, housing development, and urban renewal among others have improved connectivity, enhanced quality of lives, stimulated economic activities, and enhanced the State’s competitiveness in attracting both local and international investors. 

Following the present trajectory, the former Head of Service assured that the future of the State is very bright with the massive influx of investors into the State due to the ease of doing business policy of the Governor Dapo Abiodun led government with the recent development plan of Pure Dairy Herds, led by Mr. Farouk Gumel, to establish one of the largest dairy farms in Nigeria in the Ogun West Senatorial District with an initial investment of $250 million. 

According to him, the company has already acquired land for the project and is partnering with international experts to develop a world-class dairy facility that will strengthen local milk production, support food security, create employment, and deepen Nigeria’s agricultural value chain

On his part, the Nigeria's High Commissioner to United Kingdom, Alhaji Aminu Dalhatu commended the Association for putting the event together, adding that it would enable Ogun indigenes in diaspora to contribute their quota to the development of the State. 

Speaking earlier, the President of the Association, Chief Mrs Jumoke Ariyo said the event was put together to appreciate the founding fathers of the State at 50 and to further cross fertilize ideas on the potential and opportunities that can move the State forward.

Highlight of the event was the presentation of Awards to indigenes from diverse professional background where the immediate past Head of Service of the State, Mr. Kehinde Onasanya was honored with Public Service Excellence Award.

OGEPA SEALS INDUSTRY OVER ALLEGED WASTEWATER DISCHARGE

The Ogun State Environmental Protection Agency (OGEPA) has sealed Bonny Pie Industry, located at Akinbo Township, Ewekoro Local Government Area, over allegations of environmental pollution arising from the discharge of wastewater into a community river.

The action was carried out on the directive of the General Manager of OGEPA, Hon. Kehinde Bello, through the Agency's Enforcement Unit following a petition submitted by the Olu of Akinbo, Oba Rasheed Olamilekan.

According to the petition, the traditional ruler raised concerns that the company had been discharging untreated wastewater into a river serving the Akinbo community, thereby posing potential environmental and public health risks to residents.

Upon receiving the complaint, OGEPA's Enforcement Unit promptly visited the facility to assess the situation and verify the allegations contained in the petition.

Following a preliminary inspection, the Agency sealed the industry to prevent further environmental degradation, while a comprehensive investigation into the matter would continue.

The General Manager of the Agency, Hon. Kehinde Bello used the medium to reiterate the State Government's commitment to protecting the environment and ensuring that industries operating within the State comply with established environmental regulations and standards.

He assured residents of Akinbo community that the investigation would be thorough and transparent, noting that appropriate actions would be taken based on the outcome of the findings.

Eid-el-Kabir: OGEPA GM, Kehinde Bello Urges Muslims to Embrace Sacrifice, Environmental Responsibility

 As Muslims across Ogun State and the world celebrate Eid-el-Kabir, the General Manager of the Ogun State Environmental Protection Agency (OGEPA), Hon. Kehinde Bello, has called on the faithful to reflect on the virtues of obedience, sacrifice, and compassion while also taking responsibility for environmental cleanliness.

In his Eid message released on Wednesday in Abeokuta, Hon. Bello congratulated the Muslim community on the occasion, noting that the festival commemorates the unwavering faith and devotion of Prophet Ibrahim.

“This blessed festival reminds us of the profound virtues of obedience, sacrifice, and unwavering faith in the Almighty. As we commemorate Prophet Ibrahim’s devotion, let us internalize the spirit of selflessness and extend compassion to our neighbours, especially the less privileged,” the OGEPA boss stated.

However, the General Manager used the opportunity to stress the need for environmentally conscious celebrations, warning against practices that could harm public health and degrade the ecosystem.

He urged residents to uphold the “Ogun Standard” of environmental consciousness by properly disposing of animal waste after slaughtering.

“After the sacrifice, please bag and dispose of remains at designated collection points. Do not dump them in drains, roadsides, or water channels,” Hon. Bello advised.

He also warned against the indiscriminate burning of refuse and stressed the importance of maintaining hygiene during cooking and merrymaking to prevent disease outbreaks.

The OGEPA General Manager assured that the agency would be on active monitoring duty across the state to ensure compliance with environmental regulations.

“Let us not turn our festive joy into an environmental hazard,” he cautioned.

Hon. Kehinde Bello concluded his message with prayers for peace, prosperity, and good health for all residents, and wished Muslims a happy Eid Mubarak.

“May the blessings of this season bring peace, prosperity, and good health to you and your families. May Allah accept our acts of sacrifice and devotion,” he added.

The agency reaffirmed its commitment to keeping Ogun green and clean, even in the midst of festive celebrations.

The political atmosphere in Ogun State came alive on Saturday as the All Progressives Congress (APC) officially announced the winners of its House of Representatives primary elections conducted across the state, with Hon. Joseph Adegbesan emerging victorious to fly the party’s flag once again for the Ijebu North/Ijebu East/Ogun Waterside Federal Constituency.

The announcement, made at the APC State Secretariat in Abeokuta, followed the successful conclusion of the party’s primary elections across the affected federal constituencies, reinforcing the APC’s resolve to sustain internal democracy and party cohesion ahead of the general elections.

Chairman of the Ogun State APC National Assembly Primary Elections Committee, Philip Shaibu, formally declared the winners after receiving and reviewing reports submitted by collation officers from various federal constituencies across the state.

For many political observers and party faithful, the emergence of Hon. Adegbesan has been described as a reflection of confidence in his representation, legislative contributions, and grassroots connection within the federal constituency. OGEPA Refutes Claims of Air Pollution in Ijebu-Ode, Says It Is a Chemical Odour Reaction

The General Manager of the Ogun State Environmental Protection Agency (OGEPA), Hon. Kehinde Bello, has refuted claims that the chemical odour incident that affected some schools in Ijebu-Ode was caused by air pollution.

Bello, stated that the incident appeared to be more of a security concern than an environmental safety issue.

He made this known during his visit to St. Anthony Grammar School, Esure; the State General Hospital, Esure; as well as a private hospital in the town.

He urged residents, parents and guardians in the affected communities to remain calm, assuring them that the government was doing everything possible to salvage the situation.

Speaking earlier, a medical doctor at the State General Hospital, Esure, Dr. Victor Nathaniel, disclosed that 15 students were brought to the facility — 12 from private schools and three from public schools within the same area.

According to him, the students complained of symptoms linked to inhalation of a foul-smelling and irritating chemical odour.

Also speaking on the development, the doctor on duty, Dr. Farouk Raji, explained that some of the students were brought in unconscious, with weak pulse rates, but noted that their conditions had stabilized.

Dr. Raji, added that out of patients that were brought to the facility, some of them had been discharged, while others were still receiving treatment.

Hon. Kehinde Bello, further revealed that an air quality analyzer installed at Our Lady of Apostles Secondary School, Ijebu ode had detected high levels of methane (CH4) concentration, with peak readings of approximately 14,900 ppm around the location.

He added that efforts were ongoing to install analyzers across other affected schools in the area.

OGUN GOVERNMENT APPROVES HEALTH INSURANCE SCHEME FOR RETIRED PUBLIC SERVANTS

In further demonstration of its stern commitment to the welfare and dignity of retired Public Servants in Ogun State, Ogun State Governor, Prince Dapo Abiodun  has graciously approved the extension of health insurance coverage to the retirees in the State under a newly introduced scheme known as the Ogun State Retirees Health Insurance Scheme (OGRHIS). 

A statement from the State Head of Service, Mr Kehinde Onasanya said the initiative is designed to cater for retired Public Servants thereby ensuring that they continue to enjoy access to quality and affordable healthcare services after retirement.

According to Mr Onasanya,  the Governor has  approved the payment of 17.4 million Naira monthly for the payment of the retiree health insurance premium,adding that  all retirees will enjoy the full insurance coverage without paying or contributing any amount. 

This , he said is to show that this administration understands the value of taking care of our retirees, which marks another significant milestone under the ‘Social Welfare and Wellbeing’ agenda of the present administration which is aimed at safeguarding the health and wellbeing of retired officers who devoted the productive years of their lives to the service and development of Ogun State.

The Head of Service explained that the laudable initiative follows the successful implementation of the Public Sector Health Insurance Scheme for serving Public Servants introduced by the State Government in August, 2024, and further reflects the deliberate policy direction of Government towards inclusive healthcare coverage for all categories of workers, including those in retirement. 

He said the approval equally underscores the strong commitment of the present administration to improving the welfare of retirees and preserving their dignity after active service, while recognizing the reality that many pensioners face increasing health challenges and financial pressures associated with medical care during retirement.

According to him, under the Ogun State Retirees Health Insurance Scheme (OGRHIS), beneficiaries will have access to a defined package of healthcare services through accredited healthcare facilities across the State. The Scheme is equally expected to reduce the burden of out-of-pocket medical expenses and prevent catastrophic healthcare spending among retirees while encouraging continuous healthcare management.

Mr Onasanya on behalf of the entire workforce and retirees appreciated Prince Dapo Abiodun for this remarkable and magnanimous gesture and acknowledge his consistent disposition towards the welfare of both serving and retired officers which clearly demonstrates visionary leadership and a deep understanding that human capital. 

He noted that by prioritising the health and welfare of pensioners, Governor Abiodun has once again reaffirmed his administration’s commitment to inclusive governance and responsible leadership that values the contributions of those who laid the foundation upon which successive administrations continue to build.

Mr Onasanya called on the Ogun State Health Insurance Agency (OGSHIA) and all relevant stakeholders to ensure seamless enrolment, effective sensitisation and smooth implementation of the Scheme in order to guarantee that retirees fully benefit from this laudable intervention.                  Meanwhile, in a swift reaction to free health Insurance Scheme for retirees in Ogun State , as approved by Governor Dapo Abiodun, the Chairman, Nigeria Union of Pensioners in the State , Mr Waheed Oloyede appreciated the Governor for the kind gesture.                          

Mr Oloyede who spoke with Ogun Information and Public relations officer, Sururat Odusanya, in Abeokuta, said " Many of the senior citizens are battling with multiple health challenges, but with this free health Insurance scheme, it will erase health related expenses because it is a health relief ".

The Executive Secretary, Ogun State Christian Pilgrims Welfare Board (OGCPWB), Mr Ibiyemi Oduyemi has been honoured with the Excellent Anti-Corruption Leadership Award.

presenting the award at Oke-Mosan, Abeokuta, the Executive Secretary, Fight Against Corruption Organisation (FACO), Mr Francis Shopekan noted the award was bestowed on Mr Oduyemi after thorough examination of his service both in the private and public sector.
