OGSIEC Commiserates with Ikenne LG Chairman Over Councillor’s Demise; Sets Stakeholders’ Meeting for April 30

The Chairman of the Ogun State Independent Electoral Commission (OGSIEC), Mr. Babatunde Osibodu, has commiserated with the Chairman of Ikenne Local Government Area, Hon. Jamiu Ashimi, following the passing of the Councillor representing Iperu III (Ward 5), Hon. Nurudeen Bakare.

During a courtesy visit to the Council headquarters in Ikenne, Mr. Osibodu, represented by a Commissioner at OGSIEC, Mrs. Gbemi Onasanya, described the visit as a somber one, praying to God to comfort the bereaved family and the community members Hon. Bakare left behind.

While praising the Council Boss for his dynamic and proactive leadership, the OGSIEC Chairman noted that the visit was also a formal necessity to address the vacuum created by the late Councillor's transition, emphasising the legal requirement to conduct a bye-election to fill the vacant seat.

Osibodu announced that a meeting will hold on Thursday, April 30, 2026, involving all registered political parties, Community leaders, Security personnel and relevant stakeholders within the Ward.

According to him, during this session, the Commission will officially unveil the timetable and guidelines for the upcoming bye-election.

"We are here because of the strategic importance of your office. You are closer to the people and have greater access to your constituents. We will require your full support to ensure a hitch-free meeting and a smooth election process", Osibodu stated.

In his response, the Executive Chairman of Ikenne LG, Hon. Jamiu Ashimi, thanked OGSIEC for the honor of the visit prior to the stakeholders' forum.

He assured the commission of the local government's maximum cooperation to ensure a successful electoral process.

Hon. Ashimi further urged the commission to uphold its integrity and maintain absolute neutrality throughout the conduct of the bye-election.
