OGUN TARGETS N4.2BN REVENUE FROM COMMERCE & INDUSTRY
As part of efforts geared towards increasing internally generated revenue accruable to Government coffers, the Ogun State Ministry of Commerce and Industry is targeting the sum of N4.2billion as revenue in the 2016 fiscal year.
The Commissioner in charge of the Ministry, Otunba Bimbo Ashiru disclosed this when he appeared before the Ogun State House of Assembly Committee on Finance and Appropriation to defend the Ministry’s proposed budget.
Otunba Ashiru explained that the sum would be generated if necessary equipment are provided and adequate measures taken to enable the Ministry carry out its duty effectively.
According to him, in the 2016 fiscal year, a total sum of N962million would be expended with over N647million to be spent on capital expenditure and over N315million for recurrent expenditure.
He said the sum of N83million would be utilized in establishing additional zonal offices at Odogbolu and Owode Yewa,while the sum of N10million was earmarked for the conduct of survey to prepare mineral Map of the State and N5million has been set aside to establish a quality control laboratory in the geological department to maintain the standard and quality of product from solid minerals.
Ashiru assured that the Ministry would continue to work assiduously towards ensuring that favourable industrial and commercial climate were created for investment to thrive.

IF YOU POLLUTE FOR OGUN, YOU GO PAY OOO, SAYS OGUN GOVERNMENT
In furtherance of its resolve to protect human health and preserve the environment, the Ogun State Government has said it would soon commence implementation of ‘’Polluters Pay’’ Principle across the State.
The Commissioner for Environment, Mr. Bolaji Oyeleye made this known while receiving members of Igbogila Descendants Association who were on a courtesy visit to his office in Abeokuta.
Oyeleye said that Government would soon begin to implement ‘’Polluters Pay’’ Principle across the State, describing it as a viable means of checking pollution of the environment on human health.
He described the principle as a globally accepted practice which stresses that “those who produce pollution should bear the cost of managing it”, to prevent damage to human health or the environment.
‘’The Polluters Pay Principle is something we are about to implement in Ogun State. What this simply means is that if you pollute the environment, you have to pay. This would serve as deterrent to people who habitually pollute the environment as our administration remains resolute in ensuring the environment is clean and sane’’, he said.
The Commissioner added that the State Government would partner with the private sector on waste management in 2016, imploring the people of the State to support Government’s mission to maintain clean environment by paying for the service of managing their waste.
The Chairman of the Igbogila Descendants Association, Alhaji Fatai Opebiyi described the responsibility of waste management as enormous, adding that the Ministry of Environment under the leadership of Mr. Oyeleye had performed well and showed promise of performing better.
Opebiyi who was a former Permanent Secretary in the State, charged Government to enlighten the people of the State on need to pay a token for the refuse they generate, saying this would ensure efficient and productive waste management.

OGUN GOVT. ASSURES CORPS MEMBERS OF A CONDUCIVE WORKING ENVIRONMENT
The Ogun State Government has assured corps members posted to the State of conducive working environment as they commence their service year.
The State Governor, Senator Ibikunle Amosun who was represented by the Commissioner for Youth and Sports, Mr. Afolabi Afuwape gave this assurance at the Sagamu International Stadium during the closing ceremony of 2015 Batch ‘B’ stream 2 Orientation Course.
He said that Government would continue to evolve strategies and partner with genuine organisations for the socio-economic development and progress of the State.
“Be rest assured that the people of the State are very hospitable and caring. You must ensure, therefore, that you identify with the people of your host communities, share their hopes and aspirations and your entire service year would surely be worthwhile and memorable”, Amosun said.
In his address, Ogun State NYSC Coordinator, Mr. James Afolayan advised Corps members to make good use of all that they have learnt in the orientation camp, which he said would be useful for them in the future.
Two of the Corps members, Messrs Mutiu Olayiwola and Pius Emeya from Lagos and Imo States respectively, promised to put in their best in the service of their fatherland.

DWINDLING OIL REVENUE: OGUN ASSEMBLY CALLS FOR PRUDENT FUND MANAGEMENT
As Ministries, Departments and Agencies (MDAs) of Government in the State began the Defence of next year’s Appropriation, Ogun State House of Assembly has called for a more creative approach in revenue generation and prudent management of resources as way out of the prevailing economic realities confronting the nation.
The Speaker of the State House of Assembly, Rt. Hon. Suraju Ishola Adekunbi made the call while declaring open the commencement of year 2016 Budget Defence by Ministries, Departments and Agencies (MDA) at the Assembly’s Complex, Oke – Mosan, Abeokuta.
Adekunbi who was represented by his Deputy, Hon. Olakunle Oluomo, described budget defence as one of the vital stages in the passage of appropriation bill by the legislature, noting that the exercise was meant to allow all MDAs of government to justify the proposed expenditure as well as giving opportunity to the non-governmental organizations to observe and make their input into the Appropriation Bill thereby promoting transparency.
He added that the 2016 budget christened “Budget of optimization” would focus on ensuring the advancement and completion of the infrastructural and socio-economic programme embarked upon by the Senator Ibikunle Amosun led administration to further enhance the realization of the five Cardinal programmes of the present administration.
According to the Speaker, a review of the implementation of the past budgets in the State since the inception of the current administration had advanced the course of the masses through unprecedented delivery on the democratic dividends.
Defending its appropriation for next year, the State Commissioner for Culture and Tourism, Basorun Muyiwa Oladipo said that the Ministry was committed to promotion and propagation of indigenous cultural heritages and tourism potentials towards enhancing socio-economic development of the State.
Oladipo who disclosed this while defending the ministry’s budget before the lawmakers led by the Chairman, House Committee on Finance and Appropriation, Hon. Akanbi Bankole said that the Ministry would expend a total of N457m for the next fiscal year, of this amount, N217m would go for recurrent expenditure, while N240m was earmarked for capital projects.
He added that the sum of N20m was expected to be generated as revenue by the Ministry; just as the sum of N100m would be expended on special projects and assignments including establishment of a Film Village, construction and equipping of Ogun State Museum as well as promotion and preserving of various heritage sites in the State amongst others.

TASUED HONOURS OBASANJO, DANGOTE OTHERS.
Tai Solarin University of Education [TASUED] has honoured former President Olusegun Obasanjo, Alhaji Aliko Dangote and late chief (Mrs) HID Awolowo with the conferment Honourary Doctorate Degree in appreciating their immense contributions to the educational development of the Country.
Obasanjo, while appreciating the institution for the conferment of Honourary Doctorate of Education in Political Science at its 6th, 7th and 10th Convocation ceremony held in Ijebu-Ode said he accepted the honour due to the personalities involved especially Tai Solarin whom the university was named after, who according to him was one of the greatest educationist Ogun State ever Produced. He noted that anywhere Mama H I D Awolowo was being mentioned or honoured everybody must join hands in honouring her, adding that he was happy to be honoured along with the late HID.
‘’Tai Solarin University of Education is the first University of Education in Nigeria and if we take Education so seriously, all agencies in charge of Education must be given serious attention, and give the honour they require. So you see why I found it irresistible to be here" Obasanjo said.
Congratulating the graduands, Obasanjo enjoined them to put the knowledge of what they have learnt to practice, ‘’because of the character you have portrayed, you are qualified to be a distinguish graduate of this University and I am proud to share that honour with you’’.
Obasanjo was conferred with Honourary Doctorate of Education in Political Science while H I D Awolowo was honoured with Honourary Doctorate in Business Education and the business mogul, Aliko Dangote was conferred with Honourary Doctorate in Science and Business Education.
Daughter of Chief (Mrs) H I D Awolowo, Mrs Tola Adeniran who received the Award on her behalf, thanked the institution for the great honour and gave assurance of promoting Chief Obafemi Awolowo’s ideals and principles on education across the schools in the State.
Ogun State Governor, Senator Ibikunle Amosun, said the 2015 convocation ceremony of the University marked the successful completion of another academic session which demonstrated the commitment of the present administration to produce quality personnel in the education sector.
The Vice Chancellor of TASUED, Professor Oluremi Obilade urged the graduands to be good ambassadors of the institution and not to ponder on the uncertainties of their future but to be forthright in their quest to achieve their goals in alleviating poverty through skills and talents acquired from the University.

AMOSUN FELICITATES WITH AKANDE AS SHE EMERGES PRESIDENT LAGOS CHAMBER OF COMMERCE

The Governor, speaking through his Deputy, Chief (Mrs.) Yetunde Onanuga, congratulated her on the appointment, urging her to justify her outstanding profile towards realising the goals of the Chamber.
Governor Amosun while extolling her virtues, said she was a woman of vision and quality leadership who had contributed in no small measure to the socio-economic development of the Nation.

OGUN ANCOPSS HONOURS BEST SCHOOL ADMINISTRATORS
In a bid to motivate school Principals for optimum performance, the All Nigeria Confederation of Principals of Secondary Schools (ANCOPSS) Ogun State Chapter has honoured the Principal-General, Special Duties, State Teaching Service Commission (TESCOM), Mrs. Gbemi Onasanya Presidential Award for her excellent performance as an outstanding school administrator.
The Conferment of the Presidential award along with two others was held at the Otunba Dipo Dina International Stadium, Ijebu-Ode, during the 35th Annual State Congress of ANCOPSS for the year 2015.
The Commissioner for Education, Science and Technology, Mrs. Modupe Mujota described the award as commendable and deserving, considering her contributions to the advancement of education in the State, urging her not to relent in giving her best at promoting effective teaching and learning in schools.
Mrs. Mujota noted that her good deeds didn’t go unnoticed as someone, somewhere was taking note.
Responding, Mrs. Onasanya dedicated the award to God and her husband, the Permanent Secretary, Ministry of Information and Strategy, Mr. Ibikunle Onasanya who had been her pillar of support in achieving desirable goals in the profession, thanking ANCOPSS for the great honour and motivation done to Principals and the Teaching profession in the State.
“Teaching is a noble profession and I love it so much. It is a calling and it is a commitment to building the nation and the State at large. I feel highly honoured for the award conferred on me by the professional body which I belong to for many years before my appointment as Principal-General in 2011. I give all glory to God for the enablement to perform and to be able to excel to the extent that I was singled out for this kind of honour”, she expressed.
She advised upcoming school administrators to be proactive, resourceful and committed to their duties by giving all that they have to the uplift ment of the profession.
Earlier, President, ANCOPSS, Chief Olatunji Ogundele said that the awardees had distinguished themselves as one of the best school administrators and a promoter of education in the State.
Mr. Ogundele said Mrs. Onasanya, one of the awardees had contributed greatly to the progress of ANCOPSS in the State.
While highlighting her sterling qualities, he explained that she had served as a teacher, Principal and Director of programmes with six different first ladies in the State for years on secondment before she became PGSD in 2011.
Other awardees include, immediate past President of ANCOPSS, Alhaji Kadir Dejo, (Special Presidential Recognition) and Prof. Japhet Adeneye (Merit Award).
Dignitaries in attendance included the Permanent Secretary, Ministry of Education, Science and Technology, Mr Peter Fagbohun and his counterparts, Mrs. Olabisi Akinnuga (TESCOM) and Mr. Ibikunle Onasanya, Ministry of Information and Strategy, among others.
