OGUN TO CONSERVE NATURAL RESOURCES, PLANS UNINTERRUPTED SUPPLY OF SAFE WATER

Ogun State Government has reiterated its commitment to ensuring sustainable water management and conservation of natural resources as part of efforts to provide safe and potable water supply to residents.

The Ogun State Governor, Prince Dapo Abiodun, made this known while declaring open the year 2025, Ogun World Water Day celebration, tagged: “Glacier Preservation: Synergies for Resilient Water Future,” at Cultural Centre, Kuto, Abeokuta.

The Governor, represented by the Chief Economic Adviser and Commissioner for Finance, Mr. Dapo Okubadejo, the Governor highlighted the critical role of water sustainability amid growing concerns on climate change, noting that the government had realised the importance of water as an essential element for human survival, saying its commitment to revolutionising the infrastructural materials and institutional reforms of policies would ensure efficient water delivery across the State.

The Governor stressed the growing impact of climate change, particularly the melting of glaciers, which serves as natural water reserves globally, emphasising the need for strategic partnerships, international collaborations and policy reforms to ensure sustainable water management. 

The State helmsman hinted that, his administration was implementing a comprehensive transformation agenda aimed at enhancing water infrastructure across the State, enumerating infrastructures such as water reservoir, Pipeline network optimisation, replacement of faulty valves and pipes, deployment of smart metering and digital monitoring systems, upgrading water treatment plants and laboratories as well as rehabilitation of vandalised pipelines as steps government had taken in making this a reality.

“Water security is no longer a choice, it is imperative, therefore, we urge the good people of Ogun State to join hands with the government by embracing responsible water usage and hygiene practices,” Abiodun said.

In his address, the Commissioner for Environment, Engr. Ola Oresanya, explained that the government remains committed to making water accessible to people, while emphasising the importance of collective action in conserving water resources for future generations.

Similarly, the Commissioner for Rural Development, Mrs. Olufemi Ilori Oduntan, urged stakeholders and concerned parties to intensify effort in the effective management of water, saying the evolving threat of water shortage calls for concerted determination to put in place policies for proper water resource management.

Also speaking, Commissioner for Special Duties, Mrs. Funmi Efuwape, applauded the commitment and cooperation of the staffers in making the “Ogun Water Dream” a reality, adding that their diligence and effectiveness has contributed in no small measure to the success recorded so far in the corporation.

Damilola Otubanjo, in her presentation, tagged: "Ogun Water of our Dreams", said the Mission and Vision of the Agency was to be the foremost provider of safe, sustainable and accessible water service in Ogun State as well as leveraging on advanced technology to enhance efficiency, reliability and community well-being while driving public health, economic growth and environmental stewardship.

She said Water Corporation operates an open-door policy, enjoining stakeholders to make use of the available toll-free lines or contact their offices for information about water.

OGSG/IMPACT TRAIN OFFICERS ON ENVIRONMENTAL, SOCIAL SAFEGUARD POLICIES

In a bid to demonstrate its commitment at providing high-quality healthcare services, while protecting the environment and promoting social well-being of the citizens, Ogun State Government, in collaboration with the Immunisation Plus and Malaria Progress by Accelerating Coverage and Transforming Services (IMPACT) project, has organised a two-day State level training programme for Environmental Officers and Nurses on Environmental and Social Safeguard Policies in Abeokuta.

Speaking, the Executive Secretary, Ogun State Primary Healthcare Development Board, Dr. Elijah Ogunsola, said the training aimed towards equipping participants with the knowledge and skills necessary to effectively implement environmental and social safeguard policies in the State.

Dr. Ogunsola said the training was expected to enhance the ability of Environmental Officers, as well as Nurses, in order to identify and manage environmental and social risks associated with healthcare activities, ensure a safer and healthier environment for patients, staffers, as well as communities, saying that the healthcare waste management plan for the IMPACT project was meant to comply with the State, National and International environmental regulations’ best practices.

In her opening remarks, IMPACT State Project Manager, Dr. Kofoworola Olajide, said the Project was launched in Nigeria to reduce the under-five mortality rate and improve health services nationwide, noting that it would enhance access to quality healthcare for children and women in selected States by promoting the uptake of malaria prevention and treatment services, strengthening case management skills, as well as sensitising households on malaria prevention.

Contributing, the IMPACT project's Environmental and Safeguard Specialist, Mrs. Oluwayemisi Obileye, highlighted the importance of environmental and social safeguard policies in promoting sustainable healthcare wastes management practices, pointing out that the policy's primary objective was to protect healthcare workers, waste handlers and communities from the harmful impacts of infectious or hazardous healthcare wastes associated with IMPACT projects in the State.

Mrs. Obileye added that the policy would develop procedures that would minimise environmental and social risks by identifying potential risks and impacts, assessing mitigation measures, as well as ensuring compliance with environmental and social standards, noting that effective implementation of the policy would have impact positively on the healthcare system, promote sustainable development and environmental protection.

NUJ Information Chapel Celebrates Patron, Apelogun on His Birthday

The Nigeria Union of Journalist, Ogun State Information Chapel join the rest of humanity to celebrate a worthy Patron of the Chapel, Alhaji Samsudeen Adebayo Apelogun on the occasion of his birthday. 

In a statement signed by the Chairman of the Chapel, Comrade Femi Osipitan, the 'birthday boy' is described as a beacon of hope and inspiration full of wisdom, integrity, and tireless service to Ogun State.

Apelogun Pledges Continued Support for NUJ Information Chapel

The National President of Acomoran who also doubles as the Asiwaju Adeen of Ogun State, Alhaji Samsudeen Apelogun, has reassured the Nigeria Union of Journalists (NUJ), Ogun State Information Chapel of his continued support and partnership.

Apelogun gave the assurance while playing host to the Executives of the Chapel at his country home in Sagamu during a thank you visit, where he emphasized the importance of a collaborative relationship between himself and the Chapel as the Patron of the Union.

The Patron who lauded the Comrade 'Femi Osipitan led executives for the various achievements recorded in less than two years in office promised to maintain open lines of communication and provide necessary support to the Chapel's activities.

The Acomoran National President commended the Chapel members for their professionalism and dedication at disseminating accurate government information and keeping the public abreast of the strides of Prince Dapo Abiodun in the state. 

Earlier, the Chapel Chairman, Comrade 'Femi Osipitan while presenting the Union's Appreciation Letter and other gifts, thanked the Patron for the unwavering support often received from him most especially the recent support for the 2025 Ramadan Lecture.

Comrade Osipitan assured of the Chapel's continued support while pledging to place the patron's picture in the Hall of fame and name a street after him at the First ever Journalists Estate in Ogun State. 

EXPOSE DOMESTIC VIOLENCE PERPETRATORS-OGUN DEP. GOV. TASK JOURNALISTS

Ogun State Deputy Governor, Engr. Noimot Salako-Oyedele has tasked members of the Nigeria Union of Journalists (NUJ) Information Chapel to help use their profession to expose, name and shame domestic violence perpetrators in the society without compromise in their reportage, describing it as a blight that must be collectively nip in the bud.

Engr. Salako-Oyedele made this known at the Year 2025 ramadan lecture titled: ‘Domestic violence, growing global concern, Islamic panacea to the rescue' organised by Nigeria Union of Journalists (NUJ) Information Chapel, at the mini Arcade Ground, Oke-Mosan, Abeokuta, saying the issue of domestic violence touches everybody, either as a witness, a victim or as a perpetrator of domestic violence.

          “Allah forbade domestic violence and He has said that if we abhor something, we can change it with our hands, mouth and minds, where we are in domestic violence should be beyond changing with our minds but working against it.

 As a professional, you should help highlight this challenge and also help to make it something that people will be ashamed of, Lets blacklist all perpetrators and ensure that we name and shame them. Anybody who does it should not be speared at all but exposed,” she said.

While commending NUJ Information chapel for their efforts in organising Ramadam lecture every year and the support of chapel members towards ensuring that the programme was a success, she thanked the guest lecturer for preaching the word of Allah and sharing the gift Allah has given him, praying that God would reward him, increase his knowledge and protect him in all his endeavours.

Earlier, the Chairman of the occasion and the National President, ACCOMORAN, Alhaji Samsideen Apelogun, appreciated Almighty Allah for witnessing yet another Ramadam, saying the topic of this year Ramadan lecture was apt as domestic violence had caused a lot of damage to many homes, women and the children. While saying the cases of violence in Nigeria was alarming, adding that all hands must be on deck to nip it in the mud.

In his lecture, the Chief Imam, Lagos State House of Assembly. Dr. Abdul Hakeem, Abdul Lateef, said those who engage in domestic violence feel they know it all or have all it takes but lack everything, highlighting the types of violence as physical, psychological, sexual, self-induced violence among others. 

He attributed the causes of domestic violence to failure of making perpetrators to suffer for his or her crime, effect of childhood trauma, victims of broken home, peer groups, families, anger issues, false marriages (matchmaking), mental illness and religious differences.

          Earlier in his welcome address, the Chairman, Nigeria Union of Journalists (NUJ), Information Chapel, Comrade Femi Osipitan, said the chapel was not only concerned about the welfare of its members but also take their spiritual wellbeing very seriously, urging them to show love to one another, be philanthropic in nature, peace and follow the deeds of Allah wholeheartedly during and after Ramadan.

OGUN GOVT. REGULARISES APPOINTMENT OF 415 HOSPITAL PERSONNEL

It was a joyful moment for 415 locum hospital workers across all Secondary Health Facilities in Ogun State who have enjoyed the approval of Governor Dapo Abiodun to be fully regularised and absorbed into the normal pensionable appointment of the State. 

Speaking with journalists during the regularisation exercise at Staff Development Centre, Oke-Ilewo, Abeokuta, the Permanent Secretary, Hospitals Management Board, Dr. Olayinka Elemide, appreciated the Governor saying, "this absorption and regularisation exercise is unprecedented in the history of the State".

"On behalf of the entire Management of the Hospitals Management Board and the 415 locum hospital workers, I want to thank the Governor for his large heart and kind consideration," she said. 

Dr. Elemide disclosed that, the health workers have been doing the job for some times now, adding that the formal regularisation would boost their morales and help in improving service delivery which would translate to effective health care delivery to the people of the State. 

Reacting, Messrs Sanni Akanni, Gbeminiyi Jacob, Olugbenga Agida and Ayantunji Ibrahim from General Hospitals, Imeko Afon, Atan, Ilaro, Iperu and Mrs. Solaja Deborah from State Hospital, Ijaiye Abeokuta, respectively, on behalf of others expressed their appreciation to the Governor, saying that the gesture was rare while promising to be more dedicated, productive, diligent and committed in the discharge of their duties. 

The ad hoc workers in their numbers took turns to get their documents and certificates verified by officers from the Bureau of Establishment and Training led by the Permanent Secretary of the Bureau, Mrs. Lydia Fajohunbo in compliance with the rules and regulations of the service. 

The absorbed workers comprised Pharmacy Technicians, Medical Laboratory Technicians, Health Attendants, Assistant Data Processing Officers, Medical Record Technicians, Medical Imaging Technicians, Dental Surgery Technicians, Clerical Officers, Cooks, Gardeners, Drivers, Craft men, Watchmen and Mortuary/Health Attendants.

OGSG DISTRIBUTES C of O TO HOMEOWNERS IN IFO

As part of efforts to encourage residents of the State, to apply for genuine Land Title Documents, the Ogun State Government has distributed Certificates of Occupancy (C of O) to some homeowners, whose properties were on a portion of Government land allocated to Lagos University Teaching Hospital (LUTH) in Pakoto, Ifo, Ogun State.

The Director- General and Special Adviser, Bureau of Lands and Survey, Arc. Segun Fowora, at Ifo, reiterated the commitment of the Governor Dapo Abiodun to the welfare of the good people of the State, saying, there was pardon with a 50 percent discount, to the beneficiaries to bring them into home ownership bracket rather than destroying their property.

Arc. Fowora, explained that it was an extension of the Property Registration Programme (PRP) project of the present Government Land Administration Reforms, to ensure more citizens of the State were given more opportunities to own lands for economic sustenance.

"For today's symbolic exercise, we have brought our office here to the community to make it easier for the people in this area to benefit from this exercise. Today is symbolic because a lot of people have been doubting whether this will not happen but here we are, giving out Certificates of Occupancy to these beneficiaries who are enjoying this amnesty with 50 percent discount," he said.

In his remarks, Acting Surveyor-General, Surv. Oladele Ewulo, congratulated the beneficiaries and advised those still in doubt to quickly key into the initiative.

Also speaking, the Director, Land Services, ESV. Adewale Adedeji appreciated the present administration for the support to go ahead with the amnesty programme, saying, the Government has overlooked the error committed by the beneficiaries.

In his goodwill message, former Speaker of Ogun State House of Assembly, Rt. Hon. Olakunle Oluomo, represented by Hon. Kola Ishola, said, it was a history making programme, as the Prince Dapo Abiodun-led administration had fulfilled its promise to the LUTH community in Ifo through the distribution of the land documents.

On her part, the Vice Chairman, Ifo Local Government, Hon. Abibat Bolanle, appreciated the Governor for the kind gesture, while calling on the beneficiaries to enlighten others about the initiative.

Speaking on behalf of the beneficiaries, Mrs. Fatimoh Oluwatoyin and Mr. Ramoni Ganiyu thanked the Government for the Certificates of Occupancy as they were now real homeowners.

OGUN TRANSPORT COMMISSIONER URGES NEW RTEAN EXECUTIVES TO UPHOLD DECENCY

The Ogun State Commissioner for Transportation, Engr. Olugbenga Dairo, has charged the newly elected executives of the Road Transport Employers Association of Nig  eria (RTEAN), to prioritise decency, dedication, transparency, and unity in leadership.

Speaking at the 2025 Election and Inauguration Ceremony of the new Executive Members, at the RTEAN Secretariat, Obantoko, Abeokuta, Engr. Dairo, represented by the Senior Special Assistant to the Governor on Transportation, Hon. Olufodun Moibi, emphasised that, there are responsibilities that comes with leadership position, hence all hands must be on deck to move the association forward.

“Leadership is a call to service, and I commend you all for stepping forward to serve the members of this esteemed association. As you assume office, I urge you to lead with decency, dedication, transparency, and unity,” Dairo stated.

The commissioner further encouraged the union to support the administration of Governor Dapo Abiodun by implementing its Strategic Transportation Master Plan, noting that, the Government's efforts was to enhance road transport safety, reliability, accessibility, sustainability for residents, visitors and businesses in the State.

In his address, the National President of RTEAN, Dr. Muhammad Musa, highlighted RTEAN’s origin as the Nigeria Motor Transport Union in 1933 before evolving into the Nigeria Motor Transport Owners Union and, eventually, RTEAN.

“RTEAN is the umbrella body for all commercial vehicle owners in Nigeria. Our objectives, as stated in the constitution, includes organising and maintaining orderly vehicle loading, ensuring Passenger's safety in motor parks and on the roads and foster a peaceful transport environment.”

He commended the union members for their cooperation in the electoral processes, stressing that unity remains crucial for progress and stability within the association.

 Highlight of the ceremony was the presentation of certificates to the re-elected Ogun State RTEAN Chairman, Alhaji Titilayo Akibu, alongside 18 other Executive Members.

The event was graced by the Chairman, House Committee on Transportation, Ogun State House of Assembly, Hon. Wasiu Igbalaye, Special Assistant to the Governor on Transportation, Hon. NEWMAP-EIB Project Set for Launch as Environment Minister Receives Briefing on Disbursement Readiness

The National Project Coordinator (NPC) of the European Investment Bank 

assisted Nigeria Climate Adaptation - Erosion and Watershed Project 

(NEWMAP-EIB), Engr. Anda Ayuba Yalaks on Wednesday, briefed the Honorable

Minister of Environment, Balarabe Abbas Lawal on the disbursement readiness status of the project.

The briefing, which took place at the Ministry of Environment, marked a significant milestone towards the launch of the project.

The NPC while briefing the Minister, provided an update on the project's preparation, highlighting the progress made in meeting the conditions precedence (CPs) for disbursement.

The project aims to address the issues of land degradation in a targeted subwatershed, improve the livelihood of communities affected by erosion, enhance food security, and promote environmental resilience for sustainable development. 

"This trajectory will transition the project to the next phase, which involves its official launch and declaration of its effectiveness by the Honorable Minister for Environment and Chairman of the National Steering Committee of an agreed date and venue. This important event will have the participation of the states, Federal MDAs, UNOPS, EIB, some selected NEWMAP-EIB Champion Governors, Federal Ministry of Finance, Representation from the National 

Assembly by the relevant various committees on Environment" he said.

The Honourable Minister for Environment, Balarabe Abbas Lawal expressed satisfaction with the progress made so far and commended the project team for their hard work and further assured the team of the Ministry's support towards actualizing and achieving the Project Development Objectives ( PDO) and it's set out targets.

He emphasized the importance of the project in addressing the pressing issues of soil erosion and other forms of land degradation in Nigeria.

He further charged the NEWMAP-EIB Team to intensify sensitization on the project's objectives and goals through aggressive publicity, Stakeholders and Community engagements and mobilization.

The Representative of European Investment Bank, Moussa Nakoulima, in his remarks, expressed appreciation to the Honorable Minister, for his support. 

While highlighting on the role of the NEWMAP-EIB team, he reiterated that the project has met all conditions precedence for disbursement by the EIB.

He also disclosed that the first disbursement which is expected in no distanttime will be 10% of the total EIB financing.

With the attainment of the condition readiness for disbursement now, the project is set to be launch. The launch will mark the beginning of the project implementation, which will include infrastructural investment in the areas of gully erosion control, flood water management and other forms of land degradation will be implemented using the watershed management approach for a sustainable development.

Ogun leads in turning 'Waste to Wealth' initiative

...recycles over 1500 tons of plastics daily

The Ogun State Commissioner for Environment, Hon. Ola Oresanya has disclosed that the gateway state is the leading state in the waste to wealth initiative adding that the state recycles over 1500 tons of plastic daily. 

Dr. Oresanya made this known while addressing Journalists at the monthly Congress of the Nigeria Union of Journalists, Ogun State Information chapel held at Olusegun Osoba Press Center, Oke-Mosan, Abeokuta.

The Commissioner said turning waste to wealth was beneficial to individuals, the society and government, explaining that many lack the knowledge about investment in recycling business thereby posing a challenge.

He encouraged all to consider the idea of converting waste to wealth, saying the Extended Producer Regulation (EPR) made provisions for consumers to gather plastic wastes of used products and present them in exchange for benefits from the production company.

Dr. Oresanya added that, the Ministry of Environment would soon organise a skill acquisition programme where citizens would be trained on how to produce gas using waste from the septic tanks of various homes. 

In his welcome address, the Chairman, Nigeria Union of Journalists, Ogun State Information Chapel, Comrade Femi Osipitan appreciated the support of members for consistently demonstrating commitment to responsible journalism and environmental reporting, urging all to continue to work together, sharing knowledge, expertise, and resources to promote sustainable development in the State.

The Chapel Chairman commended Dr. Oresanya and the Ministry of Environment for their tireless efforts in promoting environmental stewardship, promising that as journalists, "we will continue to amplify these efforts, promote awareness and encourage investment in the recycling sector.

OGSG Pledges Revitalization of the Water Sector

As part of ongoing efforts to revamp the water sector across Ogun State, the Ogun State Water Corporation team has embarked on another significant infrastructural assessment tour. This recent inspection covered Remo, Odogbolu, and surrounding areas, focusing on addressing critical water management challenges, replacing outdated infrastructure, and overcoming funding and logistical constraints.

The inspection team was led by the Special Adviser to the Governor on Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs) and Water Resources, Hon. Damilola Otubanjo, who reaffirmed that revitalizing the water infrastructure remains a top priority for Governor Dapo Abiodun’s administration. She expressed optimism that the government’s renewed focus on the sector would help resolve longstanding issues and improve water supply across the state.

 “Many of our water infrastructure facilities are not functioning optimally, and there are concerns regarding the inadequate utilization of available funding. This is a major challenge, and there is a lot of work to be done. We must act swiftly to rehabilitate critical water infrastructure to provide clean and potable water to the people of Ogun State.

 “We urge His Excellency, Governor Dapo Abiodun, to support us in expanding water supply to more communities, as access to clean water is a fundamental necessity that requires urgent attention.

 “I am confident that this administration, under the leadership of Prince Dapo Abiodun, will leave no stone unturned in ensuring that residents have regular access to clean and potable water,” she stated.

Hon. Otubanjo further assured the public that, with a team of experts working alongside her, the state should expect significant improvements in the water sector. She emphasized that her team remains committed to identifying and resolving challenges within the sector.

 “This facility tour is part of our strategy to tackle the growing complexities of water management. We are confident in our ability to rehabilitate infrastructure, implement lasting solutions, enhance operations, and meet the water supply needs of Ogun State residents.”

Also speaking, Alhaja Muinat Jaji, the Consultant to the Governor on Water, reassured residents that they can expect an improved and more efficient water supply. She highlighted that the facility assessment also focuses on aging equipment, which the state government has pledged to rehabilitate.

 “We have observed that some equipment in various water schemes require urgent rehabilitation and upgrades. Additionally, pipeline networks need to be improved to enhance operations and extend services to underserved communities. The state government remains committed to ensuring the availability of clean and safe water for all residents,” she stated.

She said Ogun State Government remains steadfast in its commitment to revitalizing the water sector and ensuring that residents have access to reliable and sustainable water supply.

 • Ogere Water Surface Scheme- servicing Ogere, Iperu, Ilisan, Irolu, Ipara, Iperu Borstal Institution, Akaka Mini Scheme – covering Akaka and Ilara, Ilisan Borehole Scheme, Ikene Borehole Scheme,Odogbolu Reservoir, Ayepe-Ijebu Reservoir and Sagamu Scheme.

OGUN BOOSTS ECONOMIC GROWTH WITH PROJECTS

In a bid to enhance economic growth and development, Ogun State has initiated a project focused on land use, land cover, mapping, and Spatial Data Infrastructure (SDI), towards providing accurate and robust geographical information systems for the State.

The Special Adviser/Director General, Bureau of Lands and Survey, Arch. Segun Fowora, made this known at a meeting in preparation to kick-off the project at the Conference Room, Ministry of Finance, Oke-Mosan, Abeokuta.

The meeting brought together key stakeholders, including Commissioner for Urban and Physical Planning TPL. Tunji Odunlami, the Ogun State Economic Transformation Project (OGSTEP) team, and Sivans Design, the consultancy team engaged by the World Bank.

The D.G emphasised that, the development of land use, land cover, mapping, and SDI was a crucial component for the project, saying that SDI would enable the aggregation of varied geo spatial information about property in the State, creating interoperability between organisations and stakeholders to facilitate the creation of land ownership records, leading to more efficient land administration in the State.

In his presentation, the Chief Consulting Officer, Sivan Design, Mr. Shalam Sivan, analysed the scope, objectives, and duration of the project, explaining the importance of the kick-off meeting, in orienting stakeholders on the project's goals, within the time frame of the project and to expedite action on the project delivery,

Earlier, the Project Coordinator, Mrs. Mosun Odunsi noted that the consultancy services would aid in identifying key areas for mapping in the State, adding that the Ogun State Land Administration System (OLARMS) is been upgraded and enhanced through OGSTEP to support the project's objectives.

OGSG REAFFIRMS COMMITMENT TO REFORM TECHNICAL COLLEGES

In line with the ISEYA mantra of the State Government which represents the core values and principles of Prince Dapo Abiodun’s Led-Administration, the Ogun State Government has reaffirmed its commitment to reforming 8 Government Technical Colleges (GTC) spread across the three Senatorial Districts of the State.

 Commissioner for Urban and Physical Planning, TPL. Tunji Odunlami, made this known during a facility inspection with the Special Adviser/Director General Bureau of Lands and Survey, Arch. Segun Fowora, who doubles as a Member of the Executive Board Council, at the ongoing rehabilitation of Government Technical College, llara, Remo North Local Government Area, saying that the project is being undertaken by Ogun State Economic Transformation Project (OGSTEP) in collaboration with the World Bank.

He said the project cuts across the 3 Senatorial Districts including, Government Technical and Vocational College, Isabo, Technical College Idi Aba, Igbesa, Ijebu Igbo, Ayetoro and Ewekoro, among others.

TPL. Odunlami, commended the level and quality of work done, saying that the project would be delivered within the set timeline for academic activities.

          He emphasised the importance of vocational education, noting that the Government would continue to upgrade and give the colleges a facelift to attract students from all walks of life.

The Commissioner pointed out that, education represents one of the core pillars of ISEYA mantra, as Government would fashion out ways of making the colleges more functional in line with global best practices.

The Commissioner, while addressing the students of GTC Ilara Remo, charged them to remain focused and avoid all forms of distractions, assuring them that the State Government had invested significantly at ensuring they have a conducive learning environment.

Earlier, the Special Adviser/Director-General, Bureau of Lands and Survey commended the level and quality of work done, noting that similar initiatives were ongoing in other Local Government Areas of the State, assuring that once the projects were completed, the colleges would be equipped with laboratories, workshop and necessary equipment that would aid their learning process.   

The D.G appreciated the Governor for his unflinching support and commitment towards the education sector which was crucial for driving economic growth and development.

The Project Manager Skill and Development, Mr. Fatai Osunsanya, highlighted efforts of the government towards creating an enabling environment for learning skills and development, promising that the project would be delivered within the stipulated time.

In her remarks, Vice Principal, Administration, Mrs. Aderemi Abidemi, appreciated the State Government’s timely intervention for rehabilitating Government Technical Colleges across the state.

UPHOLD EXCELLENCE IN SERVICE DELIVERY – ARC. FOWORA CHARGES STAFFERS

In a bid to enhance service delivery and operational efficiency, the Director - General, Bureau of Lands and Survey Arc. Segun Fowora, has charged staffers in the Bureau to demonstrate greater commitment and dedication while performing their duties.

The Director General made the call during a prayer session at his office in Oke- Mosan, Abeokuta, appreciating the staffers for their immense contributions in the previous year. He emphasised the significance of team work in achieving the set goals.

Arc. Fowora noted that the Bureau of Lands and Survey plays a vital role in ensuring social and economic development, urging staffers to uphold excellence in service delivery.

"The cup is not half empty but half full, let us continue to put in the work and build on our achievements, while sustaining momentum towards a wonderful year ahead,” DG said.

He reassured staffers of improved welfare packages to motivate them as well as spur them to achieve more in the new year.

In her remark, Special Adviser to the Governor on Land Matters, Mrs. Oyinda Oyelese, admonished officers to intensify efforts towards optimal service delivery, while embracing change and excellence that would take them to greater heights.

Earlier, Acting Surveyor-General, Surv. Oladele Ewulo, implored workers for continued support, cooperation and collaboration, stating that they are instrumental in achieving set objectives.

In their separate sermons, the zonal Pastor of the Redeemed Christian Church of God, Hope Chapel, Pastor Ade Osilalu and the Imam of Ogun State Secretariat Muslim Community, Oke-Mosan, Imam Abdulazeez Adebayo, charged officers to imbibe good work ethics, integrity and right attitude to work, creating room for personal development and improvements as well as pursuing additional degrees for human growth.

Director of Administration and supplies, in her vote of thanks, Mrs. Olamide Shokoya, appreciated God for his mercies and gift of life, assuring that the new year would surpass the previous years.

OGUN CSC SETS TO COMMENCE 2023/2024 PROMOTION EXERCISE

The Ogun State Civil Service Commission is set to conduct year 2023 and 2024 promotion Oral Interview exercise to eligible officers in the service.

The Permanent Secretary, Civil Service Commission, Mrs. Roseline Jacobs, indicated this in a release signed, saying the promotion exercise would start from Wednesday, January 22 through February 7, 2025 which would cut across all Ministries, Departments and Agencies in the state.

The statement further stated that all eligible officers are to obtain their gazette and Public Service Commission Rules (PSCR) of last promotion at block A, Room A261 Civil Service Commission as these shall be verified at the venue of the interview.

Jacobs noted that the Commission have to maintain the status quo of the service as all officers on Grade level 07 to GL12 are to attend the oral interview in their respective Agencies, while the Management Level officers (Officers and Professionals) on GL 13 and above are to appear at the office of the Head of Service.

Also, all officers on GL 6 and 12 are to appear before Commission on Monday, January 27 and Tuesday, January 28, 2025 respectively while the Centrally Deployed Cadres (except those on GL 06 and GL 12) are to attend their interviews at the Bureau of Establishments and Training.

MEDIA IS KEY IN PROMOTING GENDER EQUALITY - COMMISSIONER

Commissioner for Women Affairs, Hon. Adijat Adeleye said the role of Information managers in promoting Gender Equality cannot be over emphasized as a change agent who must live above the stereotyped ways of disseminating information to the public.

Hon. Adeleye stated this, during the Nigeria Union of Journalists, Information Chapel, January Congress, at the Olusegun Osoba Press Centre, Oke-Mosan, Abeokuta, themed, "The Role of Information Officers/ Public Relations Officers in Promoting Gender Equality", said that in order to achieve an inclusive society, information officers were to create and promote gender equality in their reportage.

She said the pen professionals should see themselves as change agents and use their position to promote and disseminate policies and programmes of government in the positive light.

"I want all men of the pen profession to see their pen as an instrument of change which must be used in promoting and disseminating gender equality programmes so that men would not see their women counterpart as competitors but to complement each other so as to achieve inclusion in our society", she said.  

Hon. Adeleye, appreciated the commitment of Prince Dapo Abiodun led administration in closing the gap on gender equality with the recent upgrade of 3 female Senior Special Assistant to the position of Special Adviser in their fields and the opportunity given to one thousand girls to benefit from technology Skill training to enable them match up with their male counterpart.      

 She commended the leadership of the Chapel for being innovative and adding value to their members, while advising them to move beyond the conventional journalism and key into the new trend of social media to publicise government activities as the state was doing much and people need to know.

The Chairman of the Chapel, Comrade Femi Osipitan, commended the Commissioner for her dedication towards promoting the wellbeing of womenfolk among others in the state.

OUR FINANCIAL POLICIES ARE HINGED ON TRANSPARENCY, SUSTAINABILITY - OKUBADEJO

In its efforts to foster continued economic development and empower citizens, the Ogun State government has reiterated its commitment to driving innovative, transparent and sustainable initiatives in policy formation and processes.

          This was made known by the Commissioner for Finance and Chief Economic Adviser, Mr. Dapo Okubadejo, during a revenue meeting with Payment Service Providers, at the Ministry of Finance conference room, Oke-Mosan, Abeokuta.

          Okubadejo noted that various financial reforms have been implemented to attract investors, block leakages and fast-track business processes in the State, such as the Billing and Payment Management System (BPMS), digitisation of land acquisition, automated payment processes, Treasury Single Account (TSA), among others.

He added that the pilot agencies where these initiatives were activated, namely the Bureau of Lands and Survey, Internal Revenue Service and Ministry of Education, Science and Technology, have recorded immense success in different perspectives.

Okubadejo stated that to further promote transparency and seamless services, more Ministries, Departments, and Agencies (MDAs) would be onboarded to these platforms, including the Ministries of Environment, Industry, Trade & Investment, Health, Transportation, and Agriculture.

He said to achieve this feat, rests heavily on ensuring that civil servants played an integral part of the initiatives, as they were the ones who would ensure its sustainability.

          Responding on behalf of the other Payment Service Providers, the CEO of ICMA, Mr. Lukman Buari, applauded the government for creating a level playing field for service providers and acknowledged the contributions of workers to the successes achieved in implementing the initiatives thus far, pledging the continued optimal delivery of their targets.

BE DEDICATED TO DUTY - PS CHARGED

 The Permanent Secretary, Bureau of State Pensions, Mrs. Arinola Adetayo has charged members of staff to be more dedicated to their duties, in order to achieve the main objective of the Bureau.

 Mrs. Adetayo, who gave the charge at the'2025 New Year Thanksgiving Service' at the Bureau, Oke-Mosan, Abeokuta, appreciated members of staff for their cooperation and support in the past year, stating that their responsibility was humanitarian in nature, advising them to give rapt attention to pension matters at every point in time and improve themselves academically.

The new year messages were delivered by Mr. Francis Oyefusi and Mr. Qadri Usman, advised them to be faithful, diligent and God fearing, noting that all would give account of their deeds.

AG ADMONISHES WORKERS ON HARDWORK TO ACHIEVE SET GOALS

Ogun State Auditor General, Mr. Akorede Balogun, has admonished staffers in the agency to put in their best and commit themselves to hard work to achieve the set goals in the new year.

 Mr. Balogun made this known during a Thanksgiving Service for the New Year at the agency’s Conference Room, Oke-Mosan, Abeokuta, saying that attitude to work for this year should be, "Utmost Service to your Employer and Humanity with the fear of God".

  He encouraged officers to put in their best in the workplace, adding that they should not align with the school of thoughts which says ‘Do your best and leave the rest’, instead it should be, ‘Do your best and do the rest’.

  The Auditor General appreciated God for His mercies in the outgone year, seeking more guidance in the new year, as he encouraged them to be punctual and regular at their duty post.

  In their separate New Year remarks, Mrs. Stella Samuel and Mr. Ahmed Adetona, charged the members of staff to continue to discharge their duties diligently, in order to move the Agency to greater heights, while the Director of Government Account, Mr. Mofeoluwa Adeliyi tasked the staffers to reciprocate by working more-harder.

OGUN REINFORCES COMMITMENT TO EMPOWERING VULNERABLE GROUPS

The Ogun State government has reaffirmed its unwavering dedication to empowering vulnerable communities and promoting inclusive growth.

The Hon. Commissioner for Finance, and Chief Economic Adviser, Mr. Dapo Okubadejo made this known during a meeting with the World Bank team led by Ms. Pamela Tuiyott and other stakeholders, at the Ministry of Finance Conference room, Oke- Mosan, Abeokuta. He highlighted the collaborative strides made in addressing social challenges, particularly those affecting the most vulnerable citizens.

Okubadejo, spoke on the state's ongoing efforts in supporting its vulnerable populations, adding that the role of initiatives such as the Nigeria for Women and Ogun State Economic Transformation Project (OGSTEP), which are funded by the World Bank have had direct impact on improving the lives of vulnerable groups, with a focus on alleviating poverty and combating Gender-Based Violence (GBV).

"Ogun State has made significant strides through carefully designed social safety net programmes. These programmes are helpful in empowering and protecting those most in need, particularly women and marginalised groups.

These reforms are facilitating access to credit and grants for small businesses and vulnerable individuals, contributing to economic independence and breaking the cycles of poverty" he noted.

According to him, “Ogun State has placed a strong focus on women and marginalized groups, particularly through the expansion of its Sexual Assault Referral Centres (SARCs) which are now integrated into Women Development Centres, with the aim of providing training for women and youth in high-demand trades. These initiatives are not only aimed at empowering women economically, but also to reshape societal norms and creating safe spaces for them to thrive”.

Also speaking, the Commissioner for Women Affairs and Social Development, Hon. Adijat Adeleye, called for continued collaboration among stakeholders, to ensure the state's development goals translate into meaningful outcomes for its citizens.

She emphasised that the State is not only growing economically, but also dedicated to making sure that the growth benefits its most vulnerable populations.

In his remark, the Commissioner for budget and planning, Mr. Olaolu Olabimtan, noted that the gender advocacy project resonates well with the state goals, as it fosters inclusion, diversity and equity.

In the same vein, Gender-Based Violence (GBV) Focal Coordinator for West Africa, Ms. Pamela Tuiyott from the World Bank, praised Ogun State's commitment to the Sexual Assault Recovery Centres (SARC). She stressed the importance of building the capacity of SARC officers and sharing lessons from global best practices in GBV service provision.

She expressed confidence that continued engagement would lead to greater impact, as well as ensuring quality services for women and other beneficiaries in Ogun State.
