D.S Adegbenro ICT Polytechnic, Itori Gets New Rector

The Governor of Ogun State, Prince (Dr) Dapo Abiodun, CON, has approved the appointment of Dr. Raufu, Adegoke Akeem as the substantive Rector of D. S Adegbenro ICT Polytechnic, Itori-Ewekoro, Ogun State.

According to a statement released by the Chairman of the Institution's Governing Council, Ambassador Toye Okanlawon, Dr. Goke Rauf's appointment is effective from 28th August,  2023. He  takes over from Mr. Kehinde Job-Olatunji, who acted as the Institution's Rector till date .

The new Rector was, until his appointment, a Chief Lecturer in the Department of Mass Communication, Moshood Abiola Polytechnic (MAPOLY), Abeokuta, Ogun State, where he served in various capacities including, Dean, School of Communication and Information Technology, Head, Department of Mass Communication, Elected Member of the Polytechnic’s Academic Board, among many other strategic positions. 

Beyond MAPOLY, he has served as Moderator to the Department of Mass Communication of numerous Polytechnics and Universities. He is an NBTE Resource Person, and he is a member of several professional bodies including the Nigerian Institute of Public Relations. 

The statement noted further that Dr. Raufu has acquired a fine blend of experience as an academic scholar, an industry guru and a renowned professional. 

Dr. Rauf's appointment will be for a single term of five years according to the new Polytechnic Act, the statement added.

SHARPEN YOUR SKILLS FOR EFFICIENCY, HoS URGES ADMINISTRATIVE OFFICERS

Principal Administrative Officers (GL12) in the Ogun State Civil Service have been charged to take full advantage of a capacity training at their disposal to acquire new knowledge and sharpen their skills for efficiency and effectiveness, as the task ahead of them is enormous.

The Head of Service, Mr. Kolawole Fagbohun, gave the charge while declaring open a 2-day Intensive Training Course on "Manpower Budgeting and Staff Inspection as well as Pension Administration" for Principal Administrative Officers in the State Civil Service, put together by the Bureau of Establishments and Training, Office of the Head of Service, in conjunction with a Consult, held at the Obas' Complex, Oke-Mosan, Abeokuta.

According to him, the tasks ahead of them as they gradually move into the management level require smartness, resilience, professionalism and sound intellectual contributions to official management issues in their various Ministries, Departments and Agencies (MDAs), hence, the all encompassing training, as they must not be found lacking in skills, knowledge, qualities and virtues.

The Head of Service also encouraged the Officers to go beyond the confines of the training by acquiring more knowledge and skills that will make them stand out while discharging their statutory duties in order to make them thorough-bred Administrative Officers and in turn reputable Civil Servants of Ogun State.

Mr. Fagbohun, while appreciating the State Governor for the approval to train the 200 Officers despite competing demands for limited resources, urged the participants to handle the training with all seriousness as it is a requirement that must be fulfilled before promotion to the next level and there would be consequences for non-compliance.

"Training about 200 Officers at a go is not an easy task. A lot of resources, both human and capital have been deployed and some alternatives forgone to make the training a reality. It is on this note that I express immense gratitude to the Governor of Ogun State, His Excellency, Prince Dapo Abiodun, CON for his commitment to the capacity development of the State workforce and for graciously approving funds for the conduct of this training in spite of competing demands for the limited resources of the State.

"We are also grateful to His Excellency for his kind support towards the welfare of the State workforce, as demonstrated through the recent approval of various palliative packages for the Public Servants and the State as a whole, including immediate release of 2021 and 2022 promotions, payment of peculiar allowance and a host of other economic hardship relieving packages", the HoS said.

In their separate remarks, the Permanent Secretaries, Civil Service Commission, Mr. Adedayo Somoye and the Bureau of Public Service Reforms, Mr. Jola Oyeneye mni, submitted that training and retraining have direct impact on the officers' service delivery as well as give better understanding of responsibility, knowledge and skills, hence, the participants must equip themselves well and not waste the opportunity given to them, because to whom much is given, much is expected.

They urged the participants not to underestimate all they'll learn but be open minded and ready to tap from the wealth of experiences of the Consultants who have garnered a lot as retired Permanent Secretaries from the Ogun State Civil Service.

On his part, the Lead Consultant, A-A Cosmopolitan Memory Consult, Alhaji Kunle Adegbite, said the training is needed to make the officers perform more efficiently and effectively as it is designed to be educative, interactive and instructive.

Earlier in her welcome address, the Permanent Secretary, Bureau of Establishments and Training, Mrs. Bolaji Fajounbo, said it was another in the series of trainings to ensure that establishments standards are set and met in the Civil Service for excellent service delivery.

She assured that the Bureau will continue to identify gaps and fill such, as the officers are expected to meet a requirement before moving to GL13, being the wheel on which the service rests, thus, they must make use of the great opportunity as the pioneer beneficiary of the intensive course to further improve on their delivery to the State Government.

Papers on Manpower Planning and The Process of Staff Inspection and Staff Supervision in the Civil Service were delivered by Mr. Muyiwa Adenopo and Alhaji Adebisi Osolase, retired Permanent Secretaries from the State Civil Service.

NUJ ELECTION: OSIPITAN, ABIODUN OTHERS EMERGE AS OGUN INFO. CHAPEL EXECUTIVES

The Nigerian Union of Journalists (NUJ), Ogun State Information Chapel, has elected new executive members that would run its affairs for the next three years.

The Exco has Comrades Femi Osipitan as the Chairman, Bolaji Abiodun as the Vice Chairman and Goke Oyebade as Secretary.

Others were, Olayinka Kujore as Treasurer, Luke Adebesin to serve as Financial Secretary, Segun Owotomo as Auditor, and Wasiu Ramoni as Assistant Secretary.

Speaking during the swearing-in of the newly elected Executives, the Permanent Secretary, Ministry of Information and Strategy, Mr. Waheed Adeshina, admonished them to see their emergence as a call to serve, rather than for personal gains, urging members of the Chapel to keep the Exco on their toes, to enable them to deliver on their campaign promises.

Also speaking, the Chairman, NUJ, Ogun State Council, Comrade ‘Wale Olanrewaju, who congratulated the new exco for their doggedness, said their election was the first to be witnessed since his assumption in office in 2022.

 In his acceptance speech, Comrade Osipitan appreciated the members for exercising their franchise for the development of the Chapel, promising to operate an open-door policy and administration of inclusiveness, as well as ensuring improved welfare packages for members.

OGUN INTENSIFIES ANTHRAX PREVENTION AWARENESS

     Determine to prevent incursion of anthrax into Ogun state, the government is  strengthening  surveillance and stakeholders' engagement as officials visit cattle market and slaughter slab across the state.

     The Permanent Secretary, Ministry of Agriculture, Mr Samuel Adeogun who led the Risk/Communication team on a sensitization visit to Olorunisola cattle market,Isheri ,Ifo Local Government and Atokun International market,Yewa North Local Government, said  the exercise was necessary in order to educate the people about the disease and what they needed to do incase of an outbreak.

     Mr Adeogun stressed the all encompassing posture of the activated Emergency Operation Center  which comprised of critical stakeholders, to protect public health against the disease, saying that compliance by stakeholders dealing with cattle and animals that could be affected by the disease would help prevent losses in business and investment of the citizens  incase of any outbreak.

     The State Director of Veterinary Services, Dr Taiwo Jolaoso, who was represented by Dr Adeniyi Tade, maintained that educating stakeholders on the disease was crucial, stressing that Ogun State was known for proactivenss, as it continues awareness on  prevention of the disease.

     In his presentations, a veterinarian, Dr Gbenga Afolabi, said the disease is zoonotic in nature as it affects humans and animals, emphasizing on preventive measures such as avoiding contact with infected animals or products, proper cooking of meat, good hygiene, amongst others, as he stressed the importance of early detection and prompts medical attention.

     Contributing, the representative of World Health Organization, Mrs Afolake  Ogunlaja, reiterated raising awareness on anthrax disease to avoid it, emphasising early reportage of affected animal to prevent spread of the disease

HMB Enrols Staffers for Ogun Health Insurance, Calls for More Enrollment of Citizens

Members of staff of the Hospitals Management Board have been enrolled into the Ogun State Health Insurance Scheme (OGSHIA) to enjoy the benefits that come with the scheme.

Speaking at the enrollment programme, the Permanent Secretary, Hospitals Management Board, Dr. Olayinka Elemide disclosed that the enrollment is a part of the health palliative of government for the people of the State as a perfect way of ensuring adequate preparation for medical emergencies.

Dr. Elemide while advising members of staff to key into the scheme, noted that the high cost of medical treatment is one of the major causes of avoidable deaths adding that keying into the scheme would help citizens to be able to access health care services that their financial capability may not be able to cover with little subscription.

Dr Elemide who encouraged staffers of the the Board to take their health care in their hands by embracing the program used the avenue to reach out to the general public to take full advantage of the health insurance program.

The Director of Administration Supplies, Hospitals Management Board, Mr. Muyiwa Ojo while welcoming the members of staff to the event admonished them to be ambassadors of the program by encouraging others to key into the scheme.

In their separate interview, some of the beneficiaries, Mrs. Titilayo Taiwo and Mr. Sanusi Sulaimon expressed their gratitude to the state government for bringing the program to the workers noting that it is a welcome development.

REMO PUBLIC SERVANTS COMMISERATE WITH ALAPERU ON WIFE'S DEATH

Indigenes of Remo land have been admonished to remember their root by going back to their towns and villages and contribute their quota to the development of the area.

The Alaperu of Iperu, His Royal Highness, Oba Adeleke Adelegun Idowu Basibo gave the charge while receiving indigenes of Remo land in the Ogun State Public Service, led by the Permanent Secretary in the Ministry of Community Development and Cooperatives, Mr Fatai Ogunlana during a condolence visit on the demise of Olori Kehinde Basibo at his palace.

According to the traditional ruler, it is a good thing to always remember one's root, especially when one is opportuned to do so.

While appreciating the visitors for finding time out of their tight schedule to identify with him during the trying period, the traditional ruler commended the state government for the giant strides made since the inception of this administration in 2019.

Earlier in his remarks, Mr Ogunlana prayed God to grant the late Olori perfect peace and grant the traditional ruler and Iperu Remo Indigenes in general the fortitude to bear the irreparable loss.

The eight-men representatives was led by the Permanent Secretary, Mr Fatai Ogunlana and President, Remo Senior Civil Servants in the service of Ogun State, Mr Abdul Olayinka.
