KEEP UP THE GOOD WORK, PS CHARGES STAFFERS...AS ALMA MATER VISITS

The members of staff of the Bureau of Service Matters, Office of the Head of Service, have been charged to keep up the good work so as to ensure quality service delivery to the entire workforce in the State.

The Permanent Secretary, Bureau of Service Matters, Office of the Head of Service, Mr. Oladipupo Ogunfowora, gave the charge in a maiden meeting with the staffers of the bureau at the Conference Hall of the office of the Head of Service.

Mr. Ogunfowora urged them to use their God given talents for the success of the office, in the discharge of duties and responsibilities given to them in their various departments and units for the overall betterment of the Civil Service.

He urged the workers not to abuse the privilege of the off days arrangement approved by the Governor of the State, Prince Dapo Abiodun, by absenting themselves from duty unduly.

"Our governor has been magnanimous enough to approve one day a week off duty for us as one of the means of palliatives to cushion the effect of fuel subsidy removal, don't let us abuse the privilege by absenting ourselves from duty unduly, let us strictly adhere to the schedules and avoid taking laws into our hands", Ogunfowora advised.

The Permanent Secretary, while appreciating the members of staff for their cooperation and support since his assumption of office, solicited for continued cordial relationship to keep moving the bureau forward.

Responding, the duo of the Directors, Welfare Matters and Administration and Supplies, Mr. Abubakar Adeduntan and Mrs. Adebola Fagunwa, congratulated the Permanent Secretary on his appointment and promised their unalloyed, unflinching support and cooperation by discharging their duties responsibly.

In another development, the Permanent Secretary, Bureau of Service Matters, Mr. Oladipupo Ogunfowora, received in audience the Management Team of Ijemo Titun High School, (Junior), Ibara, Abeokuta led by its Principal, Mrs. Funmilayo Adeyemi, who came to felicitate him on his appointment as Perm. Sec.

Mrs. Adeyemi said the visit was necessary as Mr. Ogunfowora is the first old student of the school to become a Permanent Secretary in the Ogun State Civil Service.

She said the school is elated to identify with their own and solicited for more support towards the continued progress of the school.

Responding, the Perm Sec., Mr. Ogunfowora, who was overwhelmed to receive his Alma Mater as the first group on a visit to his office, appreciated the Principal, her team members and indeed the entire school for the visit and acknowledged that his great dream of lofty heights he has attained was inculcated into him at the school.

He appreciated them for the confidence reposed in him and promised not to disappoint them but will keep the flag of the school flying.

THANK YOU FOR YOUR COLLABORATIVE EFFORTS, HoS TELLS LABOUR

The leadership and members of the Organised Labour in Ogun State have been commended for their cooperation, collaboration and support to the State Government, while all efforts must be geared towards enhancing the Internally Generated Revenue (IGR) of the State.

The State Head of Service, Mr. Kolawole Fagbohun, gave the commendation while declaring open a 2-day leadership retreat (harmattan course), with the theme: "Empowering Leadership: Building a Strong Future for Workers" put together by the Nigeria Labour Congress (NLC), Ogun State Council, held at the Council Secretariat Hall, Leme, Abeokuta.

According to him, all hands must be on deck to enhance the capacity of the State by generating more revenue, which will in turn better the lots of the workers and the generality of the people of the State.

While reiterating the efforts of the State government to boost workers' welfare to include, conduct and release of 5 promotions in 4 years, constant training and retraining initiatives for all cadres, appointment of Permanent Secretaries as and when due, unprecedented payment of peculiar allowance, palliative packages, release of CNG bus to workers, amongst others, the Head of Service solicited for more understanding and support from the labour leaders as government would continue to meet their demands within available resources.

"I enjoin you to block leakages and stop wastages at your spheres of influence and I solicit your continued support towards the continued successful implemention of the 'Building Our Future Together' agenda of the present administration" the HoS said.

Mr. Fagbohun enjoined the participants to take advantage of the retreat to upscale their skills and enhance their knowledge for efficiency and effectiveness, as the training is meant to bond, explore new frontiers, rejuvenate, encourage one another, collaborate, and enhance learning and development of themselves and their members.

On his part, the lead facilitator, the President, the Nigerian Workforce Strategy and Enlightenment Centre (NIWOSEC), Dr. David Ehindero, appreciated the State government for its support to the organised labour and submitted that collaborative approach to labour unionism to foster oneness and to address the challenges facing labour unions with the aim of solving them is the in-thing, which is being enjoyed in the State.

He said upholding excellence in activities to advance the welfare of the workers, to enhance the spirit of empowerment and leadership to build the workforce are part of the retreat and urged participants to concentrate for utmost results.

Earlier in his welcome address, the Chairman, Ogun State Council of the NLC, Comrade Ademola Hameed- Benco, while appreciating the governor, whom he described as labour friendly and compassionate, said the the retreat was to strengthen leadership capacity, as well as leadership development, labour strategic planning, industrial relations planning and policy advocacy and engagement, as leadership is not exacting powers but empowering others.

Highlight of the event was the presentation of awards to the Governor of the State, Prince Dapo Abiodun for his outstanding contributions to labour matters, the Secretary to the State Government, Mr. Tokunbo Talabi for his exemplary leadership and the Head of Service, Mr. Kolawole Fagbohun for being a legacy builder.

In attendance was the Permanent Secretary, Bureau of Service Matters, Office of the Head of Service, Mr. Oladipupo Ogunfowora, and all the directors from the Bureau.

OGSEMA, NEMA DONATE RELIEF ITEMS TO 2023 FLOOD VICTIMS IN OGUN EAST

The Ogun State Emergency Management Agency(OGSEMA) in collaboration with the National Emergency Management Agency(NEMA) has handed over relief items to representatives of nine Local Government Areas in Ogun East Senatorial District, for onward distribution to 2023 flood victims in the areas.

          The items comprised food and non-food items including, garri, beans, rice, cooking seasoning, soap, bags of cement, clothes, mats, blankets, and buckets among others

          Commissioner, Ministry of Special Duties and Intergovernmental Affairs, Hon. (Mrs.) Olufunmilayo Efuape, who supervised the distribution of the items at the MKO Ablola Trade Fair Complex in Abeokuta, stated that the initiative was aimed at improving the lives of the victims and compensating them for their losses.

          While acknowledging the Federal Government for providing the succour, the Commissioner said the Prince Dapo Abiodun-led administration was passionate about enhancing the social welfare of the people of the State, noting that the government would not relent in ensuring their well-being.

She stated that, "My advice to the people is to encourage them to keep their environment clean. They should desist from dumping refuse in rivers, drainages and other unlicensed places. When a disaster happens, before the government knows, the immediate people would have been affected. Erecting buildings on unlicensed places should be discouraged. We recognised part of the problems are ecological which the Federal Government is looking into".

In his remarks, the Permanent Secretary, Ministry of Special Duties and Intergovernmental Affairs, Mr. Lateef Benson while assuring the beneficiaries of proper distribution, thanked the Federal Government for its readiness to assist citizens at all times. 

In his remarks, Director, , Ogun State Emergency Management Agency, Mr Wale Shonde advised the people to cultivate the habit of planting trees to guide against flood and wind disasters.

Two of the representatives from Ijebu–North and Ijebu -East Local Governments Areas, Prince Femi Akinsanya and Mr. Oluwaseun Sanni in their separate interviews appreciated the Federal and State Governments for the succour, promising to distribute the items judiciously.

GO AND MAKE IMPACTS, HoS TELLS NEWLY DEPLOYED OFFICERS

Newly deployed Administrative Officers from various Ministries, Departments and Agencies (MDAs) of government most especially to Ogun State Internal Revenue Service (OGIRS) and the Bureau of Lands and Survey have been charged to go and make impacts and showcase ethical standards in all their undertakings.

The Ogun State Head of Service, Mr. Kolawole Fagbohun, gave the charge while meeting with the newly deployed officers in his office at Oke-Mosan, Abeokuta.

According to him, the posting is purpose driven following the directive of the governor of the State, Prince Dapo Abiodun, to enhance the Internally Generated Revenue (IGR) of the State for better performance and overall progress.

Mr. Fagbohun said the officers must use the platform for continuous improvement and efficiency, must not only meet target but surpass it and block any gap or loophole that is noticed in the course of discharging their statutory duties as government will not hesitate to remove any non-performing officer from the duty post.

"This is a platform for continuous improvement and efficiency. You're on a special mission where IGR must be enhanced. You should redress administrative lapses at your new duty posts. Be mindful of yourself, the administrative cadre and the general service in all you do and do not collect gifts that will put you in trouble. Do not run after money but make impacts", the HoS urged.

He admonished all of them to cooperate with their directors, give them maximum support, work with them and through them for optimal productivity, as the posting takes immediate effect.

OGUN CSC EMPHASISES SIGNIFICANCE OF SEMINAR, CONFERENCES FOR WORKERS

In its concerted effort to improve the skill and productivity of Ogun State workforce, the State Civil Service Commission (CSC) has assured that seminars, conferences and workshops will be organised in collaboration with the Bureau of Establishments and Training, to further expose workers to new trends that will add value to their duties.

The newly sworn-in Permanent Secretary in the Commission, Mrs. Roseline Jacobs gave the assurance while fielding questions from Journalists in her Office at Oke-Mosan, Abeokuta, saying the agency would not relent on the training and re-training of workers as it contributes to effective and efficient service delivery.

According to her, ‘’The Civil Service Commission in collaboration with the Bureau of Establishments and Training will organise seminars, conferences as well as workshops for the workers to be equipped with necessary skills to improve productivity in discharging their duties".

 The Permanent Secretary emphasised that promotions would be duly done, while recruitment and appointment would also take their pride of place as approved by the Governor, Prince Dapo Abiodun, adding that employment generation being a key ingredient of the ISEYA mantra would equally enjoy maximum attention.

She appreciated the Governor for finding her worthy to be appointed as a Permanent Secretary in the State Civil Service.

OGUN EMPOWERS INDIGENT FAMILIES OF MULTIPLE BIRTHS

The Ogun State Government through its Ministry of Women Affairs and Social Development has offered empowerment tools to some families of multiple births with triplets and twins selected across the three Senatorial Districts of the State.

The tools include grinding machines, generating sets, hairdressing kits, printers and laptops, and many more.

          Speaking during the ceremony held at Oke-Mosan, Abeokuta, Commissioner in the Ministry, Hon. Adijat Adeleye said attention was on the beneficiaries to improve their standard of living and enable them to take care of their children, especially in the present economic status of the country.

 The Commissioner charged them to make judicious use of the tools, and not to be sold, saying it would serve as a means of livelihood for the families.

 In her goodwill message, the Permanent Secretary in the Ministry, Mrs. Melutia Ogunremi pointed out that the empowerment programme was as a result of the present administration's commitment to the welfare of its citizenry, especially women and mothers.

 Appreciating the Governor and the Ministry on behalf of other beneficiaries, the family of Akiodu promised that the tools given to them would serve as a means of livelihood for the benefitting families, as they have been looking for ways to take care of their children.

UPLIFTMENT OF GATEWAY FOOTBALL CLUB TO PROFESSIONAL LEAGUE UNDERWAY

Plans are underway by the Ogun State Government to give necessary support to the Gateway United Football Club (GUFC), to gain promotion to the elite division of the Nigerian Professional Football League (NPFL).

Just as the present administration is willing to renovate the dilapidated Muda Lawal Stadium in Asero, Abeokuta, to enable it regain its sporting facility status.

Commissioner for Sports Development, Hon. Wasiu Isiaka revealed this while playing hosts to the members of the Sports Writers’ Association of Nigeria, Ogun State Chapter, led by its Chairman, Mr. Michael-Azeez Ogunsiji, saying it is high time GUFC gained promotion to the professional league.

Hon. Isiaka opined that the move would give the Club the much needed pedigree, thereby aiding its marketing potentials, assuring that the State government would ensure that the GUFC achieves success in all ramifications.

He charged SWAN members to collaborate with Prince Dapo Abiodun-led administration to revamp the Sports sector in the State, saying it has a multiplying effect on almost all sphere of human endeavour, such as youth development, agriculture, economic development and many more.

The Commissioner said, "The Governor has charged us to look into how we can run an effective Sports Ministry. His body language is positive towards the development of sports, that was why he created the Sports Development Ministry, to show that he is very interested in sports".

Earlier in his address, Mr. Michael-Azeez Ogunsiji, pledged the support of the Association as partner in progress, calling for a Public-Private Partnership for GUFC, for better performance of the team, so as to gain promotion to NPFL, saying the government needs to work on developmental football in GUFC and other football academies to nurture young talents to global status.

While soliciting for the support of the State government on the renovation of the SWAN Secretariat, which he said would also serve as the Media Centre for the upcoming National Sports Festival, he pleaded with the Commissioner to resuscitate the Principals’ Cup, GATIG, Governor's Cup and other secondary school games, saying the competitions would help reduce cultism and other social vices in schools.

ILADO COUNCILLOR-ELECT GETS CERTIFICATE OF RETURN

The Ogun State Independent Electoral Commission (OGSIEC) has presented a Certificate of Return to Hon. Abosede Adeyemi, who emerged winner at the just concluded Councillorship bye-election in Ilado Ward 10, Odogbolu Local Government Area of the State.

This became imperative to fill the vacuum created by the demise of the former Councillor in the Ward, Hon. Olufemi Taiwo, in order to complete the term.

Presenting the Certificate at the Commission's Conference room in Abeokuta, the Chairman, OGSIEC, Mr. Babatunde Osibodu, congratulated the Councillor-elect for emerging victorious in the bye-election, admonishing her to see the new position as a call to serve and not for personal or selfish interest.

Osibodu charged Hon. Adeyemi to do projects that would outlive her, and also register her name in the minds of the people, in order to be elected to serve again.

The Chairman lauded one of the Commissioners in charge of the election in Ilado Ward 10, Mrs. Gbemi Onasanya, for an exceptional and sterling job, worthy of emulation, appreciating other Commissioners who assisted at ensuring a hitch-free process.

In her remark, Commissioner Onasanya congratulated Hon. Adeyemi, saying, "It is a good thing that women are beginning to have good representation in politics, who will represent them well, serve as the voice of the female at the grassroots level, uphold and protect their interest in the society".

On his part, the Permanent Secretary, OGSIEC, Mr. Oluwaseyi Sokoya, appreciated the Chairman for the confidence reposed in him, charging the Councillor-elect to serve with all diligence and sincerity of purpose.

In her acceptance speech, Hon. Adeyemi appreciated people of the area for their support, promising to be a good female representative to the people of Ilado, Ward 10 and promised to execute people-oriented projects, that would propel socio-economic development of the area.

Gov. Abiodun Appoints Former NUJ Chairman, Sam Oyeleye, 3 Others As Permanent Secretaries

The Ogun State Governor, Prince Dapo Abiodun has approved the appointment of a former Chairman of the Nigeria Union of Journalists Ogun State Information Chapel, Mr Samuel Olugbenga Oyeleye as a Permanent Secretary in the Ogun State Civil Service with three others.

The release from the office of the Head of Service, Mr. Kolawole Fagbohun revealed that the three others are; Mrs Roseline Oluwatoyin Jacobs (Director, Administration and Supplies, Ministry of Special Duties and Inter Governmental Affairs); Mrs Kehinde Akinola (Director of Protocol, Bureau of Protocol and Ceremonies in the Governor’s office and Mr. Oladipo Foluke Ogunfowora (Director of Administration, Ogun State Television

Mr. Oyeleye, a level 17 officer was until his appointment, the Director of Information, Planning, Research and Statistics in the Ministry of Information and Strategy.

The release further revealed that the appointment was based on merit, professionalism, inclusiveness, and seniority in the state’s public service in tandem with the provision of section 208 (c) of the 1999.

Mr. Fagbohun in the release disclosed that, the new appointees were carefully selected from the pool of Directors who were successful in the Ogun State Pipeline Leadership Development Programme conducted for Directors to be eligible for appointment into the position of permanent secretaries in the state public service.

The number one Civil Servant in the State urged the appointees to demonstrate more than ever before, dedication, diligence and selflessness on their new roles and relentlessly pursue excellence in service as they join hands with other stakeholders in actualising the Ogun State of collective dream via the ‘Building Our Future Together ‘ Agenda of the administration of Governor Abiodun.

VICTIMS OF ISHERI FLOOD GET RELIEF MATERIALS FROM FG

Victims of the recent flooding that occurred in Isheri Estate and its environs, in Ifo Local Government Area of Ogun State have received relief materials comprising food items such as rice and groundnut oil from the Federal Government.

Flagging off the distribution of the items at Isheri, Minister of Humanitarian Affairs and Poverty Alleviation, Dr. Betta Edu, said the intervention was in line with President Bola Tinubu's 'Renewed Hope Agenda’, towards alleviating hardship and poverty among the people of the country.

Dr. Edu pointed out that the Federal Government would continue to complement and give maximum support to the State government in making life more comfortable for the people of the State, as well as restoring their means of livelihood which had been greatly affected by the flooding.

On her part, the State Commissioner for Special Duties and Intergovernmental Affairs, Hon. Mrs. Funmilayo Efuwape appreciated the Federal Government for the gesture, affirming Prince Dapo Abiodun’s commitment to the welfare and well-being of the people.   

She noted that the Federal Government's intervention had complemented various measures put in place by the State government to mitigate against flooding in the affected communities.

Efuwape applauded the prompt intervention of President Bola Tinubu's administration, noting that the efforts by the Federal Government would indeed encourage and renew the hopes of the victims.

Also speaking, the Director, State Emergency Management Agency, Mr. Olawale Sonde, appreciated the Federal Government for its unwavering support to the State government towards the successful implementation of the intervention, assuring that the relief materials would get to the victims of the disaster.

In his goodwill message, the Chairman of Isheri Estates Community (ISECOM), Mr. Olugbenga Osobu, lauded the timely intervention of the Federal and State governments in addressing the plight of the victims, saying necessary solutions should be provided to address the perennial flooding in Isheri community.

GOV. ABIODUN LAUDS STAKEHOLDERS FOR PROVIDING SUPPORT

The Ogun State Governor, Prince Dapo Abiodun, has commended the Nigerian Institute of Public Relations, Ogun State Chapter and the PR Primus Limited for their collaborative efforts at providing scholarship awards to the less privileged as government alone cannot make impact on the society.

Gov. Abiodun gave the commendation while presenting gifts to beneficiaries of the empowerment scheme at the 2023 'Your Image Awards' and Lecture as well as Magazine Launch, put together by the Nigerian Institute of Public Relations, Ogun State Chapter in conjunction with the PR Primus Limited, held at the Park-Inn by Radisson, Kuto, Abeokuta.

Represented by the Head of Service, Mr. Kolawole Fagbohun, the governor said the empowerment scheme was laudable as men of valour to assist the government to raise the less privileged, who will in turn raise other people in the future are needed at this point in time.

He appreciated the Public/Private Partnership (PPP) as advocated by him at work and called on all other stakeholders to join in driving and achieving the ISEYA mantra of his administration for the betterment of all.

According to him, Public Relations is a core managerial function that must be solely handled as such and charged the practitioners to have an ethical compass on how to run their affairs, as the respect that would be accorded to them depends on how they carry out their duties.

"I am in support of the educational initiative of the organisers. I appreciate you for what you're doing. I am happy that this is happening and I will continue to support such. I also appreciate you for making life more abundant for the beneficiaries and pray that God continue to rest the souls of the departed in whose honour the empowerment is being done", Gov. Abiodun prayed.

He described the Late former Head of Service, Engr. Lanre Bisiriyu, in whose honour the award was given to students of his Alma Mater, the Egba Comprehensive High School, Asero, Abeokuta, as a thorough bred professional who proved his mettle as an astute administrator in the smooth transition of the last government to the present one.

Gov. Abiodun also called on those in active service to always put in their best in managing the image of the State, as the good portrayal to the outside world, especially investors is a corporate image of all.

On his part, the Olowu of Owu, who doubles as the Chairman of the day, HRM Oba Prof. Saka Matemilola, said Public Relations is about building a good image in all things as exemplified by the choice of the awardees who have distinguished themselves in their chosen careers and the PR world.

He added that to coach, mentor and share people's feelings especially in pain and needs are PR functions and appreciated the organisers for the initiative of empowering the less privileged.

Earlier in a welcome address, the MD/CEO, PR Primus Limited, Mr. Akin Okudero, said part of the programme was to give back to the society through the empowerment scheme to immortalise two of their members, former Head of Service of Ogun State, Engr. Lanre Bisiriyu and a Mass Communication Scholar, Prof. Lai Osho, to honour them for their immense contributions to the professional body and the society at large.

While congratulating the beneficiaries, Mr. Okudero appreciated the partners for their support and solicited for more support in order to accommodate more people into the scheme.

Highlights of the event include presentation of plaques and certificates to some PR icons like the Towulade of Akinale, Oba Olufemi Ogunleye, Mr. Eddy Aina, Chief Segun Odegbami among others, while John Adesina and Habeebat Hamzat received scholarship awards in the secondary school category and Yusuff Edun as well as Nimotalai Ogunlaja from the Mass Communication Department of the Moshood Abiola Polytechnic, Ojere, Abeokuta, received that of the tertiary school awards in honour of Prof. Lai Osho.

FAMILIARIZE YOURSELVES WITH OGURPD LAWS, COMMISSIONER ADVISES PROFESSIONAL BODIES

The Commissioner for Physical Planning and Urban Development, TPl Olatunji Odunlami has advised professional bodies in the built industry to familiarize themselves with the Ogun State Urban and Regional Planning and Development (OGURPD) Law, 2022 for improved service delivery.

TPl Odunlami stated this while playing host to the Abeokuta Branch of the Nigerian Society of Engineers (NSE) in the Ministry’s Conference Room, Oke Mosan, Abeokuta.

According to him, the course of physical planning and urban development requires continuous exposure and deployment of new technologies and approaches, so that regulatory bodies can effectively respond to the demands of the sector.

“For us to respond adequately, we need to review where we are and see whether they are becoming relevant or defective to what we are witnessing in the sector. That is why we are inviting you to look at our laws, our regulations, and the way we do things if you see anything there, alert us. Our common interest is Ogun State, to ensure that our State continues to show that there are people who know what needs to be done in terms of physical development and are doing it,” the Commissioner stated.

In his remarks, the Chairman, NSE Abeokuta Branch, Engr. Ismail Adenuga thanked Governor Dapo Abiodun for the passage of the OGURPD Law 2022, saying the passage of the law was possible because there was a Commissioner who understood the importance of having legal backing to activities within the sector.

“This law will help us a lot in combating building collapse as there will be due monitoring of all the constructions going on in the State. Both NSE and Council for Regulation of Engineering in Nigeria (COREN) are ready to pool resources and work with your Ministry and its agencies to ensure that all your good plans for the State come to fruition”, Engr. Adenugba reiterated.

POVERTY ERADICATION: OGSG LAUNCHES LITERACY THROUGH ECONOMIC EMPOWERMENT STRATEGY

Ogun State Ministry of Education, Science and Technology in conjunction with the National Commission for Mass Literacy, Adult and Non-Formal Education, has launched the Literacy Through Economic Empowerment Strategy to eradicate poverty among the citizens.

Speaking in Abeokuta during the flag-off of the programme, the Ogun State Commissioner for Education, Science, and Technology, Prof. Abayomi Arigbabu hinted that the programme would provide opportunities for the adults who faced barriers to education with tools they need for self and harnesses skills for economic empowerment.

Prof. Arigbabu noted that literacy for all is an integral part of education for all, and both were critical for achieving sustainable development, adding that it was the road to human progress and the means through which every man can realise their full potential.

He said, "One of the greatest things that could be done to help others is not just to share and give what you have, but to help them discover what they have within themselves to help themselves”.

In her remarks, the Permanent Secretary in the Ministry, Mrs. Abosede Ogunleye stated that the present administration recognised the immense importance of literacy and uneducated individuals constitute a drawback in its quest for the implementation of the change agenda, hence the need to engage in Mass Literacy for desired development.

In their goodwill messages, the Chairman and Executive Secretary, Ogun State Universal Basic Education Board, Dr. Femi Majekodunmi and Dr. Mickail Lawal respectively, emphasised that "Nigeria is going more digital, more literacy" hence the need to replicate that in Ogun State, in order to take the educational system to a greater height.

Earlier in her remarks, the Director of Education, Agency for Mass Education, Mrs. Olubunmi Oso explained that the Programme was aimed at eradicating illiteracy among Nigerians, adding that it would also offer graduates, from both basic and post literacy programmes to be provided with relevant kits and starter packs.

OGFIMS GEARS TOWARD PROVIDING AID AND MANAGING FARMERS DATA

          Aimed at elevating and aiding the transformation of the Agricultural sector ,the recently launched Ogun State Farmers Information Management System (OGFIMS) is geared towards providing aid and managing data of farmers, thereby serving as the catalyst for economy development and elevation of the sector in the State.

          The Commissioner for Agriculture, Hon. Bolu Owotomo, stated this when he played host to the lead project consultant, OGFIMS and GermPlasm Health Unit of International Institute of Tropical Agriculture (IITA), Dr. Lava Kumar in his office, Oke-Mosan, Abeokuta.

  While inspecting the control room of OGFIMS at Oke-Mosan, Hon. Owootomo, said it was imperative for the Agricultural sector of the State to be elevated to aid its transformation through digitalization, stressing that a data-driven approach would empower farmers and ultimately improve their productivity.

          The Commissioner, highlighted his four strategic focus areas to include, increased agricultural productivity, improved value chain, job creation for the youth and attracting investment into the State agricultural sector.

In his remarks, the Permanent Secretary, Mr. Samuel Adeogun, maintained that OGFIMS was meant to serve as a database to manage farmers' information, stressing that the innovation would encourage young people to see agriculture as an important sector, knowing it has been digitalised.

Speaking, the Lead Facilitator, Dr. Lava Kumar explained that OGFIMS was a one-stop resource for information, coordination of farmers, e-marketing and other applications to improve agriculture and agricultural business sector in the State.

OGUN’LL CONTINUE TO EXECUTE INVESTMENT- FRIENDLY POLICES-COMMISSIONER

          The Ogun State Commissioner for Agriculture, Hon. Bolu Owotomo, has assured of the government’s readiness to provide a conducive environment by executing investment-friendly policies for businesses to thrive in the state.  

          He stated this when he played host to the representatives of the British Deputy High Commission, Messer. Wale Adebajo and Shawn Anwoju, in his office at Oke Mosan, Abeokuta, saying the government was doing everything possible to ensure the state remain attractive for investors.

 "Ogun State has a vantage position in terms of location because of its closeness to Lagos and also share a border with another country, we have the highest number of industries," he said.

Owotomo emphasized that the government has put in place necessary infrastructure such as accessible road network, and gas plants, among others, to ensure the ease of doing business, explaining that the state government was ready to partner with institutions or individuals who would key into its policies, especially in the area of mechanized farming or agro-based industries.

The Commissioner encouraged intending investors to set up factories for processing of farm produce rather than exporting raw materials, in order to boost foreign exchange earnings and youth employment, pointing out that the state has very low political temperature and tension that guarantees security and safety of investors.

 Reacting, the representatives of British Deputy High Commission, Mr Adebajo, Shawn Anwoju said their visit was to familiarize themselves with the key players in the state economy and look at areas of possible collaboration, stressing that it was essential to know how politically stable the state is as well.

COUNCILLORSHIP BYE-ELECTION: OGSIEC DECLARES APC CANDIDATE WINNER

The Ogun State Independent Electoral Commission (OGSIEC) has declared Hon. Abosede Adeyemi as the winner of the just concluded Councillorship bye-election in Ilado Ward 10, Odogbolu Local Government Area of the State, having won with total votes of 939.

The bye-election was conducted to fill a Councillorship position which had been declared vacant after the demise of the former Councillor, Hon. Olufemi Taiwo.

The exercise took place in seven polling units including: in front of Ilado Social Club, Sibadewa Ilado; St Luke Primary School, Imodi Ijasi; Odosenlu Market, Odosenlu; Open Space at Aba Tiwa Aba Soobo; Open Space Akio; St John Anglican Primary School, Ilado and Town Hall, Imodi Ijasi all in Ward 10 of the Council Area.

Speaking after the declaration of the winner, Chairman, OGSIEC, Mr. Babatunde Osibodu expressed satisfaction at the success recorded by the electoral umpire, attributing it to adequate planning and due process by the Commission ahead of the bye-election.

Represented by one of the commissioners in the Commission, Mrs. Gbemi Onasanya, the Chairman, congratulated the newly elected Councillor, Hon. Abosede Adeyemi, for emerging victorious in the bye-election.

In his contribution, a member of the House of Representatives, representing Odogbolu, Ijebu-Ode, and Ijebu North-East, Local Government Area, Hon. Femi Ogunbanwo, Commended OGSIEC for a job well done, saying the election process was seamless, adding that voters came out en-masse to exercise their franchise.

He equally congratulated the Councillor Elect, urging her to see her victory as a call to serve and not for personal interest.

Speaking after the exercise, Chairman Odogbolu Local Government, Hon. Shuaib Ladejobi noted that "the election was highly commendable, the process was hitch-free and voters turned out in their numbers to vote". 

In his remark, the APC party Chairman in the Local government, Hon. Muyiwa Idowu, congratulated all party Chieftains for winning the bye-election in Ilado Ward 10 and appreciated OGSIEC for conducting a free and fair election.

WOMEN GROUP COALITION COMMENDS ABIODUN ON CHOICE OF COMMISSIONER

A coalition of women based NGOs, Women Advocates Research and Documentation Center ( WARDC) and other women groups have applauded Ogun state Governor, Prince Dapo Abiodun for appointing Hon. Adijat Adeleye as the Commissioner for Women Affairs and Social Development in the state, describing the development as a round peg in a round hole.


Speaking with newsmen in Abeokuta, the Director WARDC, Dr Abiola Akiyode said Hon Adeleye's exposure as a former Commissioner for Culture and Tourism and two-term member of the State Assembly, had enabled her to interface with women groups and advocating for the rights of Nigerian women.

'We believe that she will live up to expectations, and make groundbreaking changes in the lives of Ogun state women. As a body, WARDC and other women groups are committed to supporting her and continuing with our work for the protection in the state. I can boldly say her previous exposures qualified her for the new role' Akiyode- Afolabi enthused.

She called on the Governor to allow more women representation in subsequent appointments to his cabinet, urging the National Assembly to reconsider the gender bills which secure a minimum of 35% affirmative action for women in both elective and appointed positions.

Responding, Adeleye appreciated the women group for trusting her ability to move the ministry's activities to engender positive results, assuring them of her unflinching support towards making an indelible impacts in the lives of womenfolk in general.

BYE-ELECTION INTO ILADO WARD 1O HOLDS THURSDAY

The Ogun State Independent Electoral Commission (OGSIEC) will on Thursday, October 26, 2023, conduct a Bye-Election to replace the deceased Councilor, Hon. Olufemi Taiwo of Ilado ward 10 in Odogbolu Local Government Area of the State.

This was made known in a release signed by the Chairman, OGSIEC, Mr. Babatunde Osibodu, stating that voting will commence at 8.00 a.m. and end by 2 p.m. He gave the following; front of Ilado Social Club, Sibadewa,St Luke Primary School,Imodi Ijasi,Odosenlu Market,Open Space at Aba Tiwa,Soobo,Open Space,Akio,St.John Anglican Primary School,Ilado and Town hall,Imodi Ijasi as polling units where voting will be held.

Mr.Osibodu, however advised all eligible voters to adhere strictly to the rules and regulations guiding the electoral process.

HoS COMMENDS ASSOCIATION OF RETIRED HoS AND PERM SECS FOR PROVIDING QUALITY LEADERSHIP AND MENTORSHIP

Members of the Association of Retired Heads of Service and Permanent Secretaries in Ogun State have been commended for the many ways they are providing mentorship, leadership, guidance and support to continually move forward the Civil Service and the State at large.

The Head of Service, Mr. Kolawole Fagbohun, gave the commendation while attending in company of some Permanent Secretaries, the Quarterly Meeting of the Association held at the Obas' Complex, Oke-Mosan, Abeokuta.

Regarding his presence in the midst of those who mentored and moulded him to be what he is today as a rare privilege, the Head of Service appreciated the Association for positively touching the Civil Service in terms of pieces of advice to reform the service and impactfully moving the State forward.

Laying credence to the fact that since they know the weaknesses and strengths of the service, the Head of Service assured them that those coming behind would continually tap into the reservoir of knowledge and look unto them for guidance and support.

"I want to appreciate the Association for allowing its members to train workers in the Civil Service in order to raise the falling standard. I also want to thank them for serving in various committees such as Review Committee on Public Service Rules, Review Committee on Financial Regulations and Committee to Develop Induction and Orientation Manual, amongst others, as well as playing advisory roles, and providing guidance and support at all times", Mr. Fagbohun said.

The Head of Service equally pleaded with the senior citizens to exercise patience with the government and continue to support it, as all their demands will be given adequate attention in due course, as the state is prided with a passionate governor who is committed to the welfare of its citizenry.

Earlier in a welcome address, the Chairman, Association of Retired Heads of Service and Permanent Secretaries, Engr. Adeniyi Abiola, while appreciating the Head of Service, elderstatemen and members of the Association for their presence and unflinching support at moving the Association, Civil Service and State forward, solicited for more support as a lot of grounds still needs to be covered for more progress.

GOV. ABIODUN APPROVES UPGRADE OF OVER 230 OGUN WORKERS

The Ogun State Governor, Prince Dapo Abiodun, has approved the release of letters to over 230 successful serving officers who sat for the 2021 and 2022 Upgrading examinations and were successful in extended interviews into higher cadres from the various Ministries, Departments and Agencies (MDAs) in the service.

          The Chairman, Civil Service Commission, Engr.Tokunbo Odebunmi disclosed this in a release issued in Abeokuta, saying the successful candidates were officers who had obtained higher academic qualifications through self- development and sailed through the entire process of Upgrading.

          Engr. Odebunmi further revealed that those candidates who passed the three stages of the upgrading process and categorised into both professional and sub-professional cadres based on their certification, would have the opportunity of utilising their potentials in improving the civil service.

           The Commission's Chairman emphasized that the purpose was aimed at gearing up workers in the service to develop themselves in their relevant fields for effective service delivery, adding that this would go a long way at ensuring progress in their chosen careers.

          He therefore urged concerned officers to reciprocate the Governor's kind gesture through more dedication to duty and improvement in productivity, saying the present administration will leave no stone unturned to improve workers’ productivity and development in critical areas of needs.

I WILL OPERATE AN OPEN DOOR POLICY- ADELEYE

 The newly sworn-in Ogun State Commissioner for Women Affairs and Social Development Hon. Adijat Adeleye, has said that she would operate an open-door policy and welcome ideas, initiatives, and innovations that would move the ministry and the State to an enviable height.

Hon. Adeleye made this known while speaking with newsmen during the first day of her resumption in office at Oke-Mosan, Abeokuta, noting that the present administration would continue to prioritize the social welfare and development of the state.

The Commissioner called on members of staff to synergize with the management in order to achieve the set objectives to cater for women, girl-child, and people living with disabilities, saying their cooperation would go a long way in putting the ministry on a high pedestal.

           In her remark, the Permanent Secretary of the Ministry, Mrs. Melutia Ogunremi, promised a cordial working relationship with the new Commissioner to achieve the set objectives of the ministry, saying the State government would not relent in its efforts to ensure that welfare and wellbeing of women folks are prioritised.

Motivate Your Workforce For Optimal Performance, Ogun HoS Urges HMB Management

 Ogun State Head of Service, Mr. Kolawole Fagbohun, has enjoined the leadership of the State Hospitals Management Board to prioritize its staffers welfare and concerns through effective management, saying this is crucial for attracting, developing and retaining talents which would foster a positive workplace culture.

 Mr. Fagbohun stated this at a 3-day Strategic Retreat organised by the leadership of Ogun State Hospitals Management Board for its Management Team, Heads of Zones, Heads of Hospitals and top officers, in the State Health Sector, in Ijebu Ode.

The Head of Service while delivering a paper titled, "Impact of Human Resources Management in the Achievement of Organizational Goals and Objectives", described humans as the most valuable asset of any organization that must be well encouraged, motivated and compensated for optimal performance, effective service delivery and satisfaction.

He identified training and development opportunities, performance management, compensation and benefit plans, good employer/employee relations among others, as factors that will help run a system that cares for Staff and ultimately help to meet organizational goals.

 Delivering a lecture on "Clinical Governance", the Commissioner Designate, Ministry of Health, Dr. Tomi Coker, emphasized the importance of Electronic Medical Records, Independent Power Source and the Central Drug Management Agency, saying these innovations would help to reduce the time of attending to patient's need.

She said the present administration in the State has invested so much in these innovations in the Health Sector, charging the Heads of Hospitals to embrace the innovations, take lessons learnt from the strategic retreat back to the different facilities, adapt them to suit the patient's need to ensure quality care experience and safety for the patients and staff satisfaction.

The Commissioner designate challenged the participants to move beyond being just a manager to a leader, who motivates, innovates, develops and challenges the status quo, saying when a highly effective team is built, everyone achieves more.

Speaking on the purpose of the retreat, the Permanent Secretary, Hospitals Management Board, Dr. Olayinka Elemide, revealed that the retreat was to adequately and clearly share the vision of the State government for the Health Sector with all the Heads of Health Zones, Hospitals and Facilities across the State so that every citizen of the State can enjoy an affordable and accessible health care service.       

Contributing, the Director General, Bureau of Public Procurement, Dr. Adesina Olanloye, who took the participants through an Overview of Ogun State Public Sector Procurement System, enjoined all to ensure compliance with the provisions of the law, adding that the Accounting Officers of the Ministries, Departments and Agencies oversee the procurement process.

While reeling out the procurement offences to be avoided, the Director General, disclosed that there are administrative and criminal sanctions for public officers emphasising that all should be well-guided within the confines of the law.

Appreciating the management of the Board for the retreat on behalf of other participants, the Heads of Ijebu and Abeokuta Health Zones, Dr. (Mrs) Bukunola Akinlesi and Dr. Adewunmi Alayaki said their memories have been refreshed adding that going back to their hospital facilities, there would be more positive changes.

OGSG FLAG-OFF NIPDS VACCINATION FOR CHILDREN OF AGES 0-5YRS

In its bid to rid Poliomyelitis infection and secure a bright future for children, the Ogun State Government in collaboration with development partners flagged off the National Immunisation Plus Days NIPDs for children aged between 0-5 years.

 Flagging off the ceremony at Idofoyi Health Center, Ayetoro, Yewa North Local Government Area, the Permanent Secretary, Ministry of Health, Dr. Kayode Oladehinde, represented by the Executive Secretary, Primary Health Care Development Board, Dr. Elijah Ogunsola stressed the importance of the NIPDs in the fight against polio, reiterating that the intention of immunization is to promote the growth of children and urged mothers to take their children to the nearest primary healthcare centres for vaccination and advocated that schools and markets across the State should be sensitized.
 He noted that the present administration is committed to the health needs of its citizenry especially the children, adding that the administration since inception has recorded no outbreak of poliomyelitis as it has put necessary measures in place to avert child mortality and deformity.

 In his welcome address, Yewa North Local Government Area, Hon. Gabriel Ogunyomi, represented by the Vice chairman, Hon. Bukola Omoyayi, thanked the state government for considering the council for the flag-off of the National Immunization Plus Days campaign, assuring full implementation of the vaccination exercise in the local government.

OGSIEC TO CONDUCT COUNCILLOR BYE-ELECTION IN ODOGBOLU LG

In line with the electoral law of Ogun state, the Ogun State Independent Electoral Commission (OGSIEC) has fixed the election for the forthcoming Councillor Bye Election in Ilado, Ward 10, Odogbolu Local Government Area of the State for Thursday, 26th October, 2023.

The Chairman OGSIEC, Mr. Babatunde Osibodu made this known at a stakeholders' meeting with representatives of different political parties, security agencies, and other relevant stakeholders at Odogbolu LGA.

Osibodu, said the Bye Election became necessary after the demise of the former Councillor, Late Hon. Olufemi Taiwo, noting that, going by the constitution the Commission is expected to conduct a bye-election into the position of the Councillor that would complete the term.

Represented by one of the Commission’s Commissioner, Gbemi Onasanya, the Chairman revealed that the meeting marks the commencement of the bye-election process scheduled to be held on Thursday, October 26, 2023, reiterating the Commission's commitment towards ensuring free, fair, and credible election, enjoined all political parties as well as other stakeholders to operate a level playing ground.

He said, "Activities on the timetable from today, Thursday, September 28, through Thursday, October 26, 2023, include commencement of campaign by Political Parties, the conduct of party primaries which is to be observed by the OGSIEC, collection of Personal Data Forms (CF 001& CF 002) for candidates by parties, submission of forms, screening of candidates amongst others".

In his welcome address, the Chairman of the Council, Hon. Shuaib Ladejobi, commended the due electoral process of OGSIEC on the bye-election for Ilado, Ward 10, after the demise of Hon. Olufemi Taiwo, attributing the success of the election that brought his emergence into office as a free and credible one.

He called on all political parties, security agencies, Baale's, and other relevant stakeholders in Ilado to cooperate with the Commission in conducting a hitch-free bye-election, saying anyone found distorting the process would be dealt with according to the law.

Also speaking, a Chief Superintendent of Police, Haruna Faluse, assured of adequate security during the election, adding that there would be collaboration and synergy with other security agencies.

In his remark, the Baale of Ilado, Chief Babatunde Onasanya, commended OGSIEC for the steps taken, promising his people maximum support during and after the election.

Abiodun, Fashola, 4 Others Appointed to Chair Committees

In its determination to achieve all of his electioneering promises for the overall benefits of members, the Chairman, Nigeria Union of Journalists, Ogun State Information Chapel, Comrade Femi Osipitan has approved the appointment of Comrades Bolaji Abiodun, Yemisi Fashola, Adeyinka Musa-Richard, Dokunmu Tunwase, Mary Olubiyi and Goke Oyebade as Chairmen of six committees.

The appointment in a statement signed and made available to our correspondent by the Secretary of the Chapel, Comrade Goke Oyebade had Abiodun as the Chairman, Welfare Committee, Fashola as Chairman, RIYE Cultural Night Committee, Musa-Richard as Chairman, Training & Capacity Building Committee while Tunwase, Olubiyi and Oyebade heads Agric Committee, 2023 Christmas Carol Committee and Toilet Construction Committee respectively.

The Ogun State Independent Electoral Commission (OGSIEC) will on Thursday, September 28, 2023, hold a stakeholders’ meeting at the Odogbolu Local Government Secretariat in preparation for a Councilor’s Bye-Election in Ilado Ward 10.

In a press release by the Chairman of the Commission, Mr. Babatunde Osibodu, stated that the meeting became necessary to fill the vacancy that opened up due to the unfortunate demise of the Ward’s Councilor, Late Hon. Olufemi Taiwo recently.

 In accordance with Section 41 of the Ogun State Electoral Law,
Electoral Guidelines and Timetable for the forthcoming By-Election scheduled to be held soon will be unveiled at the meeting.
All political parties and the general public are expected to be seated at 13:00hr prompt at the venue of the meeting, Odogbolu Local Government Secretariat, Ikenne Road, Odogbolu.

OGUN CONFIRMS APPOINTMENT OF 321 HEALTH PERSONNEL

          No fewer than 321 medical and health personnel employed by the Ogun State Hospitals Management Board (HMB) in the last two years, to beef up the existing health workforce have been confirmed by the State government.

          The Permanent Secretary, Hospitals Management Board, Dr. Yinka Elemide made this known during the confirmation exercise held at the Board's Conference Room in Abeokuta, saying 174 of the personnel were in the senior staff cadre, while those in the junior staff cadre were 147, to render efficient healthcare services to the people.

          Represented by the Director of Administration and Supplies of the Board, Mr. Olumuyiwa Ojo, the Permanent Secretary added that the officers whose appointments were considered for confirmation by the Board had stayed in the service for more than two years with four progress evaluation reports with no adverse report.

          Speaking with journalists after the confirmation exercise, the duo of Dr. Adegeye Eweje and Dr. Omowunmi Moibi from General Hospital, Ikenne, appreciated the government for finding their service worthy by employing them to contribute their quota to the health needs of the State.

          Lending her voice, a registered nurse, Mrs. Ayomikun Egbetayo, expressed her appreciation to the Prince Dapo Abiodun-led government and leadership of the Board for a stress-free exercise, saying confirmation of her appointment would motivate her to do more in caring for patients.

D.S Adegbenro ICT Polytechnic, Itori Gets New Rector

The Governor of Ogun State, Prince (Dr) Dapo Abiodun, CON, has approved the appointment of Dr. Raufu, Adegoke Akeem as the substantive Rector of D. S Adegbenro ICT Polytechnic, Itori-Ewekoro, Ogun State.

According to a statement released by the Chairman of the Institution's Governing Council, Ambassador Toye Okanlawon, Dr. Goke Rauf's appointment is effective from 28th August,  2023. He  takes over from Mr. Kehinde Job-Olatunji, who acted as the Institution's Rector till date .

The new Rector was, until his appointment, a Chief Lecturer in the Department of Mass Communication, Moshood Abiola Polytechnic (MAPOLY), Abeokuta, Ogun State, where he served in various capacities including, Dean, School of Communication and Information Technology, Head, Department of Mass Communication, Elected Member of the Polytechnic’s Academic Board, among many other strategic positions. 

Beyond MAPOLY, he has served as Moderator to the Department of Mass Communication of numerous Polytechnics and Universities. He is an NBTE Resource Person, and he is a member of several professional bodies including the Nigerian Institute of Public Relations. 

The statement noted further that Dr. Raufu has acquired a fine blend of experience as an academic scholar, an industry guru and a renowned professional. 

Dr. Rauf's appointment will be for a single term of five years according to the new Polytechnic Act, the statement added.

SHARPEN YOUR SKILLS FOR EFFICIENCY, HoS URGES ADMINISTRATIVE OFFICERS

Principal Administrative Officers (GL12) in the Ogun State Civil Service have been charged to take full advantage of a capacity training at their disposal to acquire new knowledge and sharpen their skills for efficiency and effectiveness, as the task ahead of them is enormous.

The Head of Service, Mr. Kolawole Fagbohun, gave the charge while declaring open a 2-day Intensive Training Course on "Manpower Budgeting and Staff Inspection as well as Pension Administration" for Principal Administrative Officers in the State Civil Service, put together by the Bureau of Establishments and Training, Office of the Head of Service, in conjunction with a Consult, held at the Obas' Complex, Oke-Mosan, Abeokuta.

According to him, the tasks ahead of them as they gradually move into the management level require smartness, resilience, professionalism and sound intellectual contributions to official management issues in their various Ministries, Departments and Agencies (MDAs), hence, the all encompassing training, as they must not be found lacking in skills, knowledge, qualities and virtues.

The Head of Service also encouraged the Officers to go beyond the confines of the training by acquiring more knowledge and skills that will make them stand out while discharging their statutory duties in order to make them thorough-bred Administrative Officers and in turn reputable Civil Servants of Ogun State.

Mr. Fagbohun, while appreciating the State Governor for the approval to train the 200 Officers despite competing demands for limited resources, urged the participants to handle the training with all seriousness as it is a requirement that must be fulfilled before promotion to the next level and there would be consequences for non-compliance.

"Training about 200 Officers at a go is not an easy task. A lot of resources, both human and capital have been deployed and some alternatives forgone to make the training a reality. It is on this note that I express immense gratitude to the Governor of Ogun State, His Excellency, Prince Dapo Abiodun, CON for his commitment to the capacity development of the State workforce and for graciously approving funds for the conduct of this training in spite of competing demands for the limited resources of the State.

"We are also grateful to His Excellency for his kind support towards the welfare of the State workforce, as demonstrated through the recent approval of various palliative packages for the Public Servants and the State as a whole, including immediate release of 2021 and 2022 promotions, payment of peculiar allowance and a host of other economic hardship relieving packages", the HoS said.

In their separate remarks, the Permanent Secretaries, Civil Service Commission, Mr. Adedayo Somoye and the Bureau of Public Service Reforms, Mr. Jola Oyeneye mni, submitted that training and retraining have direct impact on the officers' service delivery as well as give better understanding of responsibility, knowledge and skills, hence, the participants must equip themselves well and not waste the opportunity given to them, because to whom much is given, much is expected.

They urged the participants not to underestimate all they'll learn but be open minded and ready to tap from the wealth of experiences of the Consultants who have garnered a lot as retired Permanent Secretaries from the Ogun State Civil Service.

On his part, the Lead Consultant, A-A Cosmopolitan Memory Consult, Alhaji Kunle Adegbite, said the training is needed to make the officers perform more efficiently and effectively as it is designed to be educative, interactive and instructive.

Earlier in her welcome address, the Permanent Secretary, Bureau of Establishments and Training, Mrs. Bolaji Fajounbo, said it was another in the series of trainings to ensure that establishments standards are set and met in the Civil Service for excellent service delivery.

She assured that the Bureau will continue to identify gaps and fill such, as the officers are expected to meet a requirement before moving to GL13, being the wheel on which the service rests, thus, they must make use of the great opportunity as the pioneer beneficiary of the intensive course to further improve on their delivery to the State Government.

Papers on Manpower Planning and The Process of Staff Inspection and Staff Supervision in the Civil Service were delivered by Mr. Muyiwa Adenopo and Alhaji Adebisi Osolase, retired Permanent Secretaries from the State Civil Service.

NUJ ELECTION: OSIPITAN, ABIODUN OTHERS EMERGE AS OGUN INFO. CHAPEL EXECUTIVES

The Nigerian Union of Journalists (NUJ), Ogun State Information Chapel, has elected new executive members that would run its affairs for the next three years.

The Exco has Comrades Femi Osipitan as the Chairman, Bolaji Abiodun as the Vice Chairman and Goke Oyebade as Secretary.

Others were, Olayinka Kujore as Treasurer, Luke Adebesin to serve as Financial Secretary, Segun Owotomo as Auditor, and Wasiu Ramoni as Assistant Secretary.

Speaking during the swearing-in of the newly elected Executives, the Permanent Secretary, Ministry of Information and Strategy, Mr. Waheed Adeshina, admonished them to see their emergence as a call to serve, rather than for personal gains, urging members of the Chapel to keep the Exco on their toes, to enable them to deliver on their campaign promises.

Also speaking, the Chairman, NUJ, Ogun State Council, Comrade ‘Wale Olanrewaju, who congratulated the new exco for their doggedness, said their election was the first to be witnessed since his assumption in office in 2022.

 In his acceptance speech, Comrade Osipitan appreciated the members for exercising their franchise for the development of the Chapel, promising to operate an open-door policy and administration of inclusiveness, as well as ensuring improved welfare packages for members.

OGUN INTENSIFIES ANTHRAX PREVENTION AWARENESS

     Determine to prevent incursion of anthrax into Ogun state, the government is  strengthening  surveillance and stakeholders' engagement as officials visit cattle market and slaughter slab across the state.

     The Permanent Secretary, Ministry of Agriculture, Mr Samuel Adeogun who led the Risk/Communication team on a sensitization visit to Olorunisola cattle market,Isheri ,Ifo Local Government and Atokun International market,Yewa North Local Government, said  the exercise was necessary in order to educate the people about the disease and what they needed to do incase of an outbreak.

     Mr Adeogun stressed the all encompassing posture of the activated Emergency Operation Center  which comprised of critical stakeholders, to protect public health against the disease, saying that compliance by stakeholders dealing with cattle and animals that could be affected by the disease would help prevent losses in business and investment of the citizens  incase of any outbreak.

     The State Director of Veterinary Services, Dr Taiwo Jolaoso, who was represented by Dr Adeniyi Tade, maintained that educating stakeholders on the disease was crucial, stressing that Ogun State was known for proactivenss, as it continues awareness on  prevention of the disease.

     In his presentations, a veterinarian, Dr Gbenga Afolabi, said the disease is zoonotic in nature as it affects humans and animals, emphasizing on preventive measures such as avoiding contact with infected animals or products, proper cooking of meat, good hygiene, amongst others, as he stressed the importance of early detection and prompts medical attention.

     Contributing, the representative of World Health Organization, Mrs Afolake  Ogunlaja, reiterated raising awareness on anthrax disease to avoid it, emphasising early reportage of affected animal to prevent spread of the disease

HMB Enrols Staffers for Ogun Health Insurance, Calls for More Enrollment of Citizens

Members of staff of the Hospitals Management Board have been enrolled into the Ogun State Health Insurance Scheme (OGSHIA) to enjoy the benefits that come with the scheme.

Speaking at the enrollment programme, the Permanent Secretary, Hospitals Management Board, Dr. Olayinka Elemide disclosed that the enrollment is a part of the health palliative of government for the people of the State as a perfect way of ensuring adequate preparation for medical emergencies.

Dr. Elemide while advising members of staff to key into the scheme, noted that the high cost of medical treatment is one of the major causes of avoidable deaths adding that keying into the scheme would help citizens to be able to access health care services that their financial capability may not be able to cover with little subscription.

Dr Elemide who encouraged staffers of the the Board to take their health care in their hands by embracing the program used the avenue to reach out to the general public to take full advantage of the health insurance program.

The Director of Administration Supplies, Hospitals Management Board, Mr. Muyiwa Ojo while welcoming the members of staff to the event admonished them to be ambassadors of the program by encouraging others to key into the scheme.

In their separate interview, some of the beneficiaries, Mrs. Titilayo Taiwo and Mr. Sanusi Sulaimon expressed their gratitude to the state government for bringing the program to the workers noting that it is a welcome development.
